Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

What we see in other themeparks across the world is that AP holders no longer have unlimited access, everyone needs a reservation. I'm sure there will be a few to try and get reservations for multiple days, but then it's first come first serve. I do believe that every park has or should have a max for AP holders and a max for day guests

What will be interesting is what will happen to the flow of guests during the day. When you have a park with lots of locals and therefore many AP holders is that around afternoon/ dinner time the park gets a bit busier for people coming in for a few hours after work. That's something you cannot do on a whim anymore for the coming months. Coordinating with friends with APs will probably more difficult, so my guess is that the evenings will be quieter than before.

Also interesting to watch is this video of TDR Explorer (one of the best English websites on the Asia Disney parks)
Thanks for posting this video! A couple of things jumped out to me:

1. A lot of people were not really wearing masks (a bunch were pulled down to necks, kids not wearing them at all). I feel like if they can’t even enforce that in Shanghai, it’s going to really be a struggle to get people to keep a mask on in CA. I feel for the CMs already. (I’m actually fine with wearing a mask and actually would probably feel safer at the parks if they were required, so I’m not saying they shouldn’t require them, but I do see that it probably won’t really matter if they do. Like many issues, you’ll have 50% of the CMs who try to enforce the rules and get yelled at and burn out, and the others who just aren’t willing to try. 🤷‍♀️

2. They mentioned that Shanghai is big and spread out. DL isn’t. Where are they going to put those extended queues?

3. I didn’t realize they’re offering 1/2 day and full day tickets. It’d be nice if they set up reservations that way - could accommodate more people. I imagine they’d use wristbands? Might be overly complicated, but if you sold some tickets/reservations that were good until 2:00 or 3, you’d get the “early morning with kid locals,” and then if some started at 5, you’d get the “after work” crowd, and you’d give more people access without upping capacity. I probably don’t want to go and wear a mask for more than a few hours anyway.

Lots to think about. It will be interesting to see how things go.

This all makes sense, I just wish they would extend the same courtesy to all ticket holders, without having to pay an upgrade. Especially as the closure lingers on and the parks will completely unavailable for much of the year.
I agree. It’s not like my family bought tickets at a lower price and then chose to sit on them rather than visit the parks, you know? At a minimum, I think the expiration dates on multi-day tickets should be extended for the same number of days Disneyland is closed.

I agree. I'm sorry to sound like a broken record, but I'm sitting on five day park hoppers with maxpass for my whole family. I'm in over $2,000. And the more everyone talks about reservations, the more concerned I am that we can even get five days in a row. I'm feeling more like going in 2021 at this point, but I don't want to pay even more, especially when a lot of people seem to think there won't even be park hoppers or maxpass when it reopens. What, exactly, did I pay for?

I hope so!! I would so go after work if they reopen Wednesday!!

Me too! I just wonder if the shops and restaurants in DtD would think it was economically worth it to reopen with the parks still closed. I mean Disney Springs at WDW opened a few days ago and for the most part it seems to be empty. Disney Springs IMO is a much bigger draw to visit on its own than DtD in Anaheim. Locals may go once to hit their favorite restaurant but besides people like us who will go just to get close to Disneyland again I'm not sure if there would be enough foot traffic for them to justify reopening on their own. I really hope they do reopen soon though.

I’ve wondered that. I hope they do something though!

For the Californians out there... what type of food delivery service do you have? Not sure if it is regional but here in Canada we have things like Skip the Dishes, Door Dash and I'm sure you guys must have Uber eats. Just for the chance to make some money using this type of service might be enough to get food establishments open again, some take out business is better then no business.

Door Dash, Uber Eats, Postmates, Grub Hub

I agree and I think it’s frustrating. We have 4-day tickets with maxpass that we were supposed to use March 16th. It wasn’t our choice to not use them, so they should extend our expiration dates just like they are extending every other form of admissions’s expiration date. It seems very odd to extend the expiration date for some forms of admission but not others. Also if they do what Shangai is doing and not allow these previously purchased, multi day tickets to be used during a limited- capacity reservation only system, then that means we might not be able to use these tickets for a long time. Doesn’t make any sense to not extend the expiration date.

I just booked a night in early July. I am going to be overly optimistic that they will open by the beginning of July.

If they do open DTD early, I would probably go up for a day, just to feel a small part of the magic. But not likely more than one day. I would definitely be one of those people who stared longingly through the gates.

I think that they will have to limit the number of days each AP can reserve each month in order to keep it fair. However, I am wondering, do you think those with a higher level of pass will be able to have more reservation days? Or do you think it will be the same for all passholders? I wish I knew what they were doing.

It wouldn't be fair to those who have the two highest level AP passes (besides the premier) to have extended blackout dates, they would have to refund them or continue to extend their passes and I don't see Disney wanting to continue to do an AP extension when the AP passholders for DL is such a huge amount. I think that the signature passes shouldn't have a limit on reservations. I feel like they should stop selling AP passes for now until things are back to normal (where they won't have to limit people) and not allow the use of tickets to turn into AP passes as well.

It's going to be madness when they open up the reservation system.

This came up previously and the current working model is the reopening of SDL where the “clock” on APs was not restarted when the parks reopened under limited capacity.

I’m not sure of the current situation there, but that gives Disney an equitable option for DLR. The previous prevailing theory was that DLR would cancel all passes and issue refunds, or make substantial changes and require an opt-in (still hinted at in using the term “admissions media” in its latest statement).

Thank you for sharing. It definitely makes me want to wait. I would feel too anxious with all the people not distancing. People in the video are not lining up according to the markers. I already have enough anxiety in the local grocery store! Nor could I wear a mask in the heat. Hopefully, we return to "normal" before my passes expire :(

I didn’t know that about Shanghai... that could be years. Is it possible to call and just cancel these tickets ourselves and get a refund. Has anyone tried?

I haven’t really followed the universal studios stuff, so if I just need to go do my own research, please say so :) But is there a reason they got the FL green light first before the other theme parks?

They submitted their reopening plan to the state task force.

Disney will submit their plan this week. WDW CMs were speculating that WDW was still watching Shanghai and its changes. Also, the NBA is still in talks with using WWOS so that may be the priority rather than the parks.
