I have read the process of buying resale.

What is the process like if buying direct? I am still debating going resale vs. getting my first 100pt direct for the blue card.

Thank you.

It is really easy....... if they have the points you want at the resort you want, and now that they can change the UY of the points they buy back through ROFR they usually have points right away.

When we started looking into DVC back in 2016 before they could change the UY of points they bought back, we called up about VGF and were wait-listed. Fortunately for us this gave us time to do more research and we found out about DVC resale contracts, and bought our first contract through resale at VGF, just after we pasted ROFR our Guide called with some direct points but we pasted on them.

The process is pretty straightforward. Once the sales offices are open just call and speak to one of the guides. Tell them what you are looking for, they will give you an all inclusive price. You can put the deposit on a credit card and they will send you the paperwork. Complete the paperwork and return with payment and you are done. Your account will be created and points added.

My last purchase was all done on-line. Points in my account the same day. Paid on CC in 3 payments. Way easier than resale, but you pay for the convenience.

How long did they let you stretch out those 3 payments? I did down payment and then balance on next billing cycle, but if they allowed 3, I suppose you could span 3 billing cycles if the down payment is near the end of a cycle....?

I did the down payment and then 2 more billing cycles.

Disney (Visa) Credit Card. Offered through Chase. You get 2% back on DVC purchase, AND 6 month 0% financing on DVC purchases with it. If you can space out your purchase to span more than one billing cycle, then you'd get 0% spread across 6-8 months.
And they allow you to pay for the whole contract via CC?

Yes! It is one of the nice things about purchasing direct. As @4luv2cdisney noted, you can make the purchase with ANY credit card, so you can thus also earn CC awards. I believe it codes as travel, but don't hold me to that.

It probably depends on the bank. I’m sure if I ask in the I love credit cards thread on the budget board someone will know.

For our first purchase which was direct, we completed all the paperwork in a room at CCV they were using as an office, and by the time we got back to our room (also at CCV), our points were already in our account. It was amazing how fast it was. The next time we purchased direct was over the phone and it also happened very quickly - I believe points were loaded within a day. No issues paying for the whole thing via credit card and there were no issues spreading it out over a couple of billing cycles (I didn't ask for longer than that but it seemed like they could do it), which did not affect availability of the points in my account, just the closing. We've also done resale several times when we weren't buying the newest resort and it was usually verrry slow, especially when we were buying from divorcing sellers. We definitely saved a lot on those though.

That's a lot of travel points,,,,,Food for thought.

It is! When we bought direct (as we wanted a blue card), we decided to use our Disney Visa, even though we could have earned more points-per-$ on our travel card, because we wanted to spread out payment over two billing cycles and take advantage of the 6-month 0% financing to let our cash earn some more interest before paying it off. Also, 2% is still a nice return, and it went to paying for our annual passes. Win-win all around in my book if you're paying with cash and purchasing direct.

Don't forget as package will show up by Fed Ex and I'll have a DVC backpack and a bunch of papers to sign and send back. I own both direct and resale. Direct is quicker and less stress. Resale takes longer, a little stressful for ROFR,but costs a lot less.
