Central Park “Karen”

This is over the top being stupid shouldn't get you fired especially if you are not at work or wearing work clothes. I know she was wrong but this pathetic mob mentiality is pathetic why should she lose her dog for that?
She lost her dog because she was abusing it on camera.

She lost her job because she was abusing a man on camera. She could have had that gentleman killed with her false reports.

Who would want to employ someone like that?

‘Being stupid’ is somewhat of an understatement! Do you consider that she was being a responsible dog owner?

She returned the dog voluntarily; she doesn't wear a company issued uniform and unlike the UK, work contracts here are generally at will. Simplified, this means you, as an employee can quit whenever you wish and you, as an employer, can terminate a worker at will.

Or the more likely scenario: Her fake panic causes the cops to screech up with guns already drawn, and they scream at the man to get down on the ground, get down on the ground. Even if he follows their directions calmly, he's probably roughed up for his trouble before even getting a chance to show his camera video.
Or they come in hot and shoot him at first site, like what happened to Tamir Rice
FWIW, police DID show up.
In a statement, the New York Police Department said officers were called to the area just after 8 a.m. Monday. When they arrived, "police determined two individuals had engaged in a verbal dispute. There were no arrests or summonses issued; both parties went on their way."

I’d point out that she wasn’t stupid, she was a raging racist liar who called in a false police report while choking and dragging her dog, but I get the feeling that you don’t care about any of that.

Making a false report.
Since neither of the Coopers were issued a summons or arrested it might be a difficult case to make despite the video and her public confession. As well, the DA's office might feel there are better cases to spend their resources on and that in essence she already received her comeuppance.

Unfortunately, there are people who behave like this the world over. Perhaps, if more people are filmed, shamed and punished, whether by losing friends, employment etc., more people will reflect and consider their behaviour, both in public and in private.
I wonder whether, in previous generations, there used to be a much clearer, defined line between politeness and rudeness and so racism was much easier to identify. Now so many people, including world leaders, journalists, ‘celebrities’ etc., resort (or even lead) with name calling, that people seem to think it is acceptable and have lost the art of intelligent debate.
This woman was clearly racist; she may not want to admit it but it was there in her subconscious and bubbled to the surface. But the fact that some people consider her threats not to be racist, leads me to the blurred line conclusion.

Judge not lest ye be judged.

Yes it looks bad but you don't know anything about her or her life or what is happening with her. You don't know if this is her on an average day or on a really terrible day. No one wants to be judged by their worst actions. Maybe she is an awful person or maybe she is not. She did issue an apology. Perhaps a side of compassion with the snark and judgement.

And this is how racism continues. Deny it, justify it, condone it. No thanks. It’s way past time to call it out.

On a terrible day, you might become an a-hat. She went way beyond an overreaction to really terrible day.

I do respect the fact that you stated facts without bring race into it....something many are not able to do.

The whole incident was about race. To deny it, or even be silent allows it to continue.

I don't necessarily believe that the immediate response to an accused black man is that they go in guns blazing. The most likely resolution is that they're going to ask her to see the video that she said she was recording, and he'll offer the video he was recording. Even if somehow he gets roughed up on the way to that happening, the most likely scenario is that investigators see one or both of those video recordings. If he managed to get roughed up, it might even be worse for Ms. Cooper.

Do you watch the news?

So you think her behavior was stupidity and not blatant racism? Her employer saw her behavior for what it was and didn’t want any part of it.

She lost her dog because she was abusing him in the midst of her racist fit.

Why hasn't this woman been arrested?
Placing a 911 call and then leaving before the police arrive is not a crime. Placing a false 911 call is a misdemeanor unless it's something like a bomb threat or mass shooting threat.

And NYCGirl nailed it above. This horrific catastrophe is big fun for virtue-signaling and Internet outrage, but prosecutors have much more serious issues to spend their time on.

The world just sort of handled this one on its own, without help from authorities.

Yes I watch news. I’ve even seen someone being arrested. Outcomes where someone gets killed by the police are actually quite rare. He would have gotten the opportunity to tell his side of the story and showed the video that would prove she was lying.

Regardless of whether or not her employer thought she was racist, they had to act. A company like that relies on goodwill. There were people more than willing to pull their assets unless she was gone.

Had she given a genuine apology and said she just had a really bad day and took it out on this innocent man, and reached out to him with some humility and asked for forgiveness maybe she would deserve some benefit of the doubt. It is a crazy time and people react in ways they never would have before.

She didn't do that though, she tried damage control with what sounded completely insincere and then try to pretend she was the victim. She deserves no sympathy or benefit of the doubt.

What company would stand their ground and NOT fire her? She stood there and called 911 and LIED LIED LIED. She was angry at being told she was doing something wrong. The answer to that is to apologize and put the dog back on the leash and go about your way. Her reaction was disgusting. She might think she is not a racist, a liar or a dog abuser but it's pretty clear she is all three and probably more.

Skywalker was responding to one of my posts. I did NOT read their post as a denial or silence regarding race or the racial issues in this case.
Do you watch the news?
Yes, bcla tends to stay pretty caught up. Just because someone is not shrieking hysterically doesn't mean they're not paying attention.

I think we all agree that she was stupid, and that race played a major role in her childish reaction in this case.
Her employer saw her behavior for what it was and didn’t want any part of it.
I bet that you're giving her employer more credit than is due. More likely, her employer was embarrassed by her stupidity, she was a marginal employee, so they did the politically-correct thing.
She lost her dog because she was abusing him in the midst of her racist fit.
She returned the dog to the shelter voluntarily -- probably because she thinks the whole thing is the dog's fault!

It’s kind of early. I know Cy Vance has a lot of big picture prosecutions to worry about, but he’s got a small army of junior prosecutors to prosecute minor cases. I’d be surprised at this point if she doesn’t get prosecuted given all the publicity.
