Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

It doesn’t surprise me at all that theme parks are not lumped in with other mass gathering events, they shouldn’t be treated the same given their complexities.
IMO Theme Parks SHOULD be treated the same as other mass gatherings - concerts, fairs, festivals, etc. But I am not the one making the decisions. I will continue to make decisions for myself based on my comfort level and that means limited trips to the store, avoiding dining in at restaurants and avoid places where a lot of people are gathered (parks, beaches, amusement centers, etc.).

So based on what came out today, I’m thinking DtD will open in June sometime. Maybe after July 4th for the parks? I think our Labor Day trip will happen.... but we may not go because.... masks. It was 96 degrees in the parks last Labor Day weekend. So hot. 🥵

I am contemplating the same thing. With masks required pretty much everywhere in San Diego now, I am realizing my tolerance level is pretty low. We already don’t do well with heat. We went in both July and August last year and only lasted until 11am before we retreated for the pool. It may be the deciding factor in whether or not we take the extension option for our passes, they technically expired yesterday.

We are in San Diego too.... my mask tolerance is for about an hour max at the grocery store, my children even less. My four year old has already figured out how to pull it down so it looks like she’s wearing it but she’s really not. 🤣 I’m hoping the parks open in July and we get about two months of seeing how this mask wearing thing goes..... I just cannot see guests wearing them ALL DAY LONG. Every employee I’ve spoken with here in San Diego that has to wear them for work says they hate them. Legoland and sea world are targeting a July 1 opening, masks required. Will be interesting to see how this all plays out!

I tend to agree re lumping theme parks in with concerts, etc. And I don't think I'll be rushing out into any mass gatherings at this point, either.

As much as I am looking forward to returning to Disneyland, this really does seem too soon. I don't trust people to follow guidelines. I went with my 8th grader to clean out his locker at school. One parent was allowed inside with each child. Each child was assigned a time based on alphabetical order of the last name, so it wasn't the whole school going all at once. We were told in 2 emails to wear masks and practice 6 feet of physical distancing when we went to the school. I was completely shocked to see that my son and I, along with one other mother/son group, were the only ones wearing masks. And physical distancing wasn't even a thing. I felt like Frogger, trying to position myself properly while walking down the hall.

So WDW announced their opening dates. Not until mid July. I honestly didn't think it would be that late for them. Masks will be required. No parades and fireworks. No character meet and greets. I wonder when Disneyland will announce their plans?

I’m sticking with “before Labor Day,” assuming nothing significantly changes to delay that (like a significant new spike in cases).

I expected WDW to propose late June or July 1, so I’m a little surprised. We’ll see.

I was also surprised it was that late. I don’t see Disneyland opening before WDW, tbh.

Yeah I also thought they would open late June or early July given how quickly the state of florida has opened. Plus that means Universal will be open a full month before them. Sea World will also open June 11.

I will say that I very much DO NOT ENVY the people having to make the logistical decisions here. Every option seems like a minefield in some capacities.

I’m very curious about the profitability of the parks running at such a reduced capacity. Are they even possibly making money running the parks with 30% of guests? Shanghai is crawling with CMs, so it doesn’t seem like they’re able to proportionately cut staffing...

Balancing safety with profitability with ease/convenience with still trying to create “Magic” seems awfully challenging.

In other news, I heard Shanghai’s full parade ran yesterday, and it looks like social distancing measures have already relaxed a bunch there. I’m just not sure how I feel about any of it. One minute I’m sure I’ll try to go re-opening day if I can get in... the next, I’m convinced that’s dumb. Idk.

I see maybe Disneyland waiting to see how wdw does, but I think CA tends to run a few weeks or a month behind FL so now that WDW has an opening date I can see DL opening in August

Maybe since they won't have expensive entertainment options that helps them save money? They also furloughed their CM's. So that is saving them some money I assume.

I too am surprised at the re-opening dates. I get they need time to put up the signage, install sanitizer stations, and do training but it still feels a long way out. I wonder if it has something to do with getting a reservation system in place?? I’m very curious how that’s all going to work.

Hopefully they’ll start the necessary changes in DL sooner rather than later so the opening won’t be as delayed.

I’m thinking mid August for the re-opening now. That will give WDW a month burn in time to see how things go. CA seems to be behind FL in reopening in general anyways.

Regarding masks and heat...get yourself some surgical masks or the knock off "KN95" masks from China. They are MUCH easier to tolerate, especially in the heat.

I took my kids to Target the other day as a test of wearing masks in public (they are both autistic). One kid did fine. The other had a LOT of sensory problems (itching, hot, sweaty face). We were using homemade cloth masks. It resulted in a meltdown for one son. A bad one, but he kept it together until we got to the car. I felt awful as he was walking through Target with tears in his eyes.

I had purchased surgical masks and KN95 masks on ebay at the start of the quarantine. Yesterday, I had my son try them. The KN95 mask was comfortable for him! He wore it in the house for an hour to get used to it and said it was "nice and cool." We will trial it outdoors on a warm day soon, but I'm hopeful.

I think I'll grab some more of those and we will use those for him for going out from now on. And I'll definitely use those in the parks rather than cloth masks.
