Returning Borrowed Points

I am curioius what Disney has been doing in regards to returning borrowed points back to their former use year. I have borrowed all my 2021 points for a trip to Aulani this Novemeber but as a Canadian I am starting to worry we will continue to have a Mandatory 14 day quarantine upon returning. I am also quite concerned that physical distancing and masks will still be in place. Anyway has anyone found that Disney is being flexible and letting people cancel and allowing them to return their points to the use year they were borrowed from?

I just cancelled my September Aulani reservation a few days ago. I had used a slew of borrowed 2021 points. They let me return all of my borrowed points back to 2021.

As of today, they are. How much longer is anyone’s guess. I expect it to stop sometime when all resorts open back up.

If you are not going, I’d cancel sooner rather than later before it’s back to normal rules.

I'm currently on hold. I had reservations for 4th of july and the week after. Resorts will be open, but parks closed. We were trying to make best use of annual pass from last november to this november. All my fall reservations are using borrowed points from next year. Hoping they will let me use this summers points for fall reservations and put borrowed points back. I know it's a tough situation all around....fingers crossed. I'm sure people are frustrated and venting at the CM on the phone so I will be as nice as I can to them.

Please update when you are done. I have a July reservation that used some borrow points that I am cancelling. Wondering what the status will be. I can't get through on the phone.

So yeah, Disney reopening the resorts before the parks bit us. Because the resorts will be open when my current reservation is, technically I'm not affected by the closures and therefor my fall reservations that used borrowed points cannot be put back.

IF the resorts had reopened JULY 11th like the parks (which was our scheduled departure day) I would have been able to use the July points for the fall reservations and therefore return the borrowed points.

So I am out of luck, and because some of my July reservation points were banked from 2019 (as I'm a June UY) I HAVE to now use those by May 31st 2021. There will be losers in this and I am a DVC point loser I guess. I can't get upset because of a global pandemic. So we booked an August reservation in 1br (normally studio people but the points gotta get used) and luckily the airlines reservations I had I can keep the credit and end up booking August flight and visit a friend in July for the same price. All is not lost, but if you have July 4th reservations and want to cancel....better do it quick since 30 days is upon us soon.

You won't be able to put those borrowed points back unfortunately because the resorts will be open and technically your reservation won't be impacted by closures (resorts that is) even though you never would have planned this with 20/20 hindsight (but who would have).

You can modify/cancel online but your points are now current use year. You might have better luck than me since this is a closer reservation and I was trying to get October and November reservations with borrowed points put back. If calling....keep redialing till you get through. I was on hold for 50+ minutes

Thanks for the update- that is what I figured.

They haven't announce Aulani opening date yet, so you may still be in luck if you hurry.

Sorry to hear that. It stinks to scramble for lesser alternatives but with everything messed up it's better than nothing. Glad to see you were able to salvage something out of it. Have a great trip :) or two even!

Yeah....what am I gonna do? Complain on a forum? Start an entitled argument lol. I had booked at 11 months a TPV studio for myself and one for friends we are going with for July 3rd and 4th for fireworks to see from our balcony. That's out the window now. So are we bummed? Super....but life gives you lemons you gotta make lemonade or just be miserable. Nothing else you can do. 100k people in this country have lost their lives.....and it's only gonna go up as we loosen restrictions until a vaccine or effective treatments are found. I'm fortunate I can work from home, still get a paycheck and am healthy. So everything has to stay in perspective. Now I gotta stay on top of this park admission registration thing.

Honestly, all I really need to do in the parks is get my kid this darn Savi's workshop lightsaber we had a reservation for. That's it haha. Kid saved all his christmas $ for this lol

Oh yeah, that hurts. We've had our share of major disappoints too. The thing that has saved me most is thinking how great it will feel when we finally get to do those things again. We'll get there someday!

I cancelled an upcoming Aug reservation using borrowed points 10 days ago. Member services told me borrowed points would be returned to the ”borrowed “ year but would take about 2 weeks before they showed up that way. Sure enough today I saw they were indeed returned to the borrowed year. Perhaps this was able to be done because I cancelled before the resorts opening date was released???

(It’s Friday May 29th, 6:00pm) I just got off the phone (55 minute wait after getting busy signals all day!). I was able to cancel my August vacation that used borrowed points. My points were put back into my 2021 use year. No hassle, no begging. He just did it. I think they would be happy to have the rooms opened up for people trying to use points.

I’m relieved to not have to wear a mask in August heat and look forward to going back to Disney in the future when things clear up. We are finally going to be out of our borrowing hole we have been stuck in for years because of this.

It is good to hear that for the borrowed points policy it is continuing for those who can’t or don’t want to travel, I agree with you that any pushing of the points forward will help those with expiring points use them up!

Happy this has worked out for you!

Borrowed points for July trip from 2020 August use year

Got off phone with MS and was told borrowed points would be returned to 2020 year and not 2019 year due to current issues.

will be checking dashboard regularly as points are still in 2019 use year
