Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

It starts 6/1.

Do you have a link to something that actually says this? The link you posted says specifically Gyms, movie theaters and professional sports without live audiences are also included in Phase 3, but not allowed to open at this time. I can not find anything that says June 1st. There are lots of things that say "in June" which I believe will happen. But I am hoping more toward the end.

https://covid19.ca.gov/roadmap/ says we are still in stage 2. I know that salons & barbers were phase 3 but it seems Newsom gave into pressure there.
I think it's the wording in some of the news articles announcing Stage 3 that make it confusing. I've been understanding it as these are the first steps to transitioning to Phase 3, but it's more like a Phase 2+ or Phase 2.5 for the counties where hair salons and barber shops can now open. So he's inching there with the new allowances, but hasn't firmly moved into 3 yet.

Yep. We had stage 2-A and then stage 2-B. Now I think we are just going to keep opening various things every few days until we are ACTUALLY in stage 3.

Yeah, would make more sense to ease up if needed until we're there. Announcing Stage 3 but with exceptions would be too confusing. I think I read Newsom hopes to have a plan for gyms next week. Of course, I'm in LA County, so we're not even in later Stage 2!

https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/4993682/Kata-3-Ply-Pleated-Face-Mask/ I found these at Office Depot. They are adult sized, not sure how they would fit on a child. I have a smaller face and they fit me pretty well. I walked around with these outside and it wasn't bad at all.
These are what we call procedure masks and what I wear constantly through my 8hr shift at the hospital that I work at. These masks are what prompted me to post earlier that I would not be taking a holiday anywhere that I would have to wear them. I wear them out of the fact that I have to but for a number of reason really do not like them. We have ordered cloth mask that I hope will be more tolerable but not sure if they will be any better for long term use. You may find that they work for you, and hopefully they do but from experience I hate them :)

Lol yeah I know what you mean. I used to work at a hospital and these are similar to the ones we had to wear so I think that’s why I prefer them. They stay on my face better. But if I was still working at a hospital and had to wear for 8+ hours I wouldn’t want anything to do with them hahah

I actually think DL might open before WDW. It's a much simpler operation and they can keep hotels closed if they want and just bring in day guests with reservations.

I thought this too. Initially I would’ve bet the house that WDW would open first, but since things have started moving so quickly in California, I could see this happening. Logistically it’s so much easier. No busses, only one monorail that you don’t really even need, only two parks. Huge local attendance factor.

And more news from Disneyland Paris. France has announced some easing of measures. They work with zones in France, green, orange and red. The Paris area was changed from red to orange. This means they could technically reopen from June 22nd. No news yet if they will.

In Green zones from June 2nd schools, restaurants, bars, shows, sporthalls, swimming pools can reopen. In the orange zones the businesses have to wait till June 22nd.
Also the restriction to don't travel more than 100km (60 miles) has been lifted.

As Disneyland Paris has a very small Downtown Disney (Disney Village :) ), and it's over an hour outiside of the city, I expect Disneyland Paris to reopen with Disneyland Park and Disney Village at the same time. I suspect The Studios will open later, due to the combination of many refurbishments and shows, there is only a handful of rides left.

As a coincidence I decided to call today, to a. see if I could upgrade from a value to a moderate resort (unfortunately not) for my September visit, and b. I've splurged on the Disneyland Hotel for a visit in October :D one of the bigger family rooms, with a terrace! I'm so excited! So I can't go to Disneyland Anaheim, DisneyWorld and my Disney Cruise as planned, but I'm sure going to catch up on my visits to DLP ;-) I had 2 trips cancelled for DLP in March and May.

I doubt that they will open before August 1. There is a lot of logistics and staff training that they will have to do before people can come back into the park. Also it is going to suck for many of the employees to come back since they are making more money on unemployment at least until July 31 (when the federal extra $ end). The other thing to account for is that now that construction can continue in the park, they have the ability to make up for lost time when they don't have to hide all the construction from guests.

The unemployment doesn't matter. If they are offered a job back and they refuse they are no longer eligible for unemployment benefits. I think tbh DL will be quicker than WDW because they can submit plans at any time to the state where as WDW had to wait for that to be available by the state to submit. They then are opening 45 days after the presentation which my assumption is there is a requirement from the union for call to work and then training expectations.

Does Disneyland not have a similar union requirement?

I would assume so. But they could have already called them back via the union with pending dates. I know DCL isn't unionized since they aren't part of US employment law. I think the delay was having WDW having to submit a plan at a certain phase.

I don’t know if it’ll have anything to do with unemployment, but August 1 actually sounds like a good target date.

I think any good manager has to at least consider the enhanced UI as a challenge to be dealt with. Ultimately, Disney is compelled to maximize revenue/reduce liability so employees will probably be called back just before enhanced UI ends.

At least those CMs were able to benefit for 2-3 months under the program.

I went down to Fullerton to get my first haircut in months today. Since the place was on Harbor perhaps four miles from the park, I decided to take a quick drive by to see if there were any signs of life. I couldn’t see very much. As many of you know/suspect, there are scrims everywhere... perhaps to discourage speculation. I did see some security CMs out front (no surprise) and some gardeners tending to the flowers in front of the Grand Californian. Wish I had more to share but I remain optimistic.

A bit off topic but related, read this article on someone’s experience flying recently and found it interesting.

I’m much more confident about safety inside Disney and the hotels (were staying on site when we come.. whenever I decide that will be) but it’s the airplane that has me a bit nervous. I wonder what changes we might see to airlines as we inch closer to end of summer (if sayy, DL does open Aug 1st) and if things will be busier or not.

Reading that article shows how important it is to know the guidelines for where you are traveling. Especially now where some places are more strict than others with face coverings and such.

Confused. WDW is opening 45 days after submitting or that’s how it will work for CA? Because FL let’s them open as soon as they’re approved. Submit->Local Approval->State approval -> Open can happen in a few days if the theme parks want in FL. WDW just doesn’t want to open that soon. WDW CMs can be called back a minimum of 5 days prior to needing to show at work. (Some DS CMs were only trained for like 2 days so that’s not necessarily a huge time commitment.)
