Who else hates the term “Karen”

lol, I think we are all getting a little too offended at everything these days.

I don't think anyone on here was truly offended. I think they just are over the term. It has had its 10 minutes and they can't wait for the fad to die.

Kinda like me, with the word woke. :rolleyes2 (I'm still waiting)
Or pumpkin spice everything starting in mid August. (fingers crossed for a maple phase, or apple ... anything except pumpkin spice!)
And IPA's being "the" beer. Thank goodness that phase is starting to fade. I hate IPA's, come on wheat beers, your time has come!

I don't use any of these terms myself, it's like the "ok boomer" and constant millennial crap. I tend to not go as deep as I've seen other people do on why, I just don't personally subscribe to the stereotypes, even the "get your manager haircut" phrase and the like.

Not one that bugs me, but also not one I use.

I'll only use a term if I can misuse it deliberately. Like when hubs is lecturing me about something I have been known to use "Okay, boomer." Maybe I should try "Okay, Karen." Next time he gets annoyed.

I'm all "amen! "amen!" "amen!" "amen!" until you came to wheat beers...not that I don't like a wheat beer, but I can't wait for porters to have their day in the sun! I've actually just started drinking IPAs again, I had forgotten that I do, in fact, enjoy them. I just stopped choosing them altogether for the past year or so because I was sick of the fad.

You and my Dad are on the porter train! He loves porters. This past Christmas I went into a party store and picked 6 different porters for a “you-pick” 6 pack. My goal was to get all ones he hadn’t tried before. 5 out of 6. Rats! So close. Lol. I can do a porter every once in a while but I love Hefeweizen! 😃

IPA’s are too hoppy for me. Don’t care for the aftertaste.

Karen is a mocking slang term for an entitled, obnoxious, middle-aged white woman. Especially as featured in memes, Karen is generally stereotyped as having a blonde bob haircut, asking to speak to retail and restaurant managers to voice complaints or make demands, and being a nagging, often divorced mother from Generation X.

Every time I hear it I cringe so much. I absolutely hate it. Add to that all the Karens I know are nothing like this

I wouldn't hate it, if people didn't latch on to it and overuse it so quickly. i.e., "Okay Boomer"

I don’t like it and think it’s sexist and demeaning to women, as some here have explained well. In general I don’t condone name-calling, even if deserved, and when the name is someone’s actual name, IMO, that’s unfair and rude. I mentioned it on another thread and got some backlash, so I’m glad to see that at least some feel the same way. Not gonna lose any sleep over it, yes it’s just a current trendy catchword, but I’m hoping it goes away sooner rather than later.

I don't know why it would be bothersome. The term isn't used to degrade real women named Karen or even the name Karen. The term is used because its a common white middle-aged woman's name. It just is what it is, not necessarily positive or negative.

Disagree. I’ve never heard it used in any way that could be considered positive.

Really? I haven't seen this at all. I've only seen it used where people are calling out others for their obnoxious behavior. It's always been justified. Examples include the white woman calling the police on the black family having a cookout in the park, the white woman calling the police on the black women talking in the parking lot of their apartment building, etc. Again, just stating how/when I've seen it used.

It's been used around my area on social media to shut down people who are pointing out areas of problems with the restrictions from the pandemic. If someone points out that the skate park, which is closed, is full of kids without masks (or the mandatory helmets) they are quickly attacked and called Karen, or worse. It's become the cry of the bully.

Best rebuttal I heard was white people have been referring to Hispanic women as Consuela or Juanita or whatever and black women as Keisha or Shanaenae and now that white women are getting a taste of their own medicine it's suddenly a big deal.

And this is the reason why I'm not bothered about the use of KAREN at all.

I wonder how many folks annoyed by the use of KAREN spoke up when black women were being called SHAQUANA, SHANANAY....

If they were silent then, they need to be silent now.

I am white and I have always hated people using those names in a negative way.

You’ve misunderstood. My post that you quoted was saying that the name Karen is a common middle aged white woman’s name and that’s just a fact - not good or bad, it just is. That’s why the name was used for this slang, not because all people named Karen are bad.

I'll probably get crucified for this but I like it. I think there's a particular type of socially corrosive behavior that needs to be called out and this whole thing has somehow managed to do that. Is this particular expression of entitlement more prevalent among women than men? It seems to be. Men and women as a whole seem to process aggression differently. If it's any consolation I think most socially corrosive behaviors are more prevalent among men. Frankly, some of the biggest Karens I know are men. I've been known to be a bit of a Karen myself from time to time and this has made me reconsider that behavior. I'm thankful for that.

I think most will agree with that, but I think OP's point was that calling them a "Karen" is giving people actually named Karen a bad rap, which is unfair. I would hope most people are astute enough to realize that just because someone's name is Karen doesn't inherently make them a "Karen".

Hence why I don’t have Twitter, Facebook, Snap chat, Reddit, Tik Tok...etc. I just don’t care or have time for that dribble. This board is just about it for me and even that is waning.
You are so right -
Never, ever have I been happier to never have been on Facebook, Instagram , or any other social media!
This and another Disney board are all I participate in, and you are correct - even these can be to much. Honestly.
