News Round Up 2020

Will people who have definite cancelled reservations (June) be given access to the system, or just people who have reservations when they are supposed to be open?

After all these answers .. I feel I now need to keeping an eye out for when rebooking is allowed to happen .. but I guess as long as I plan on going again at least 60 days out now .. I shouldn't miss out on anything?

What a crazy time. The "reset" button was needed to be fair to everyone given all the uncertainty around the future.

So I received the e-mail saying I will be one of the first to have access to the new system

I guess I qualified as I have a reservation (though it isn't until Sept 29th, 2021 (so almost 1.5 years away) and I have a not yet activated annual pass connected to my account

Obviously not near booking dining or anything but will be interesting to check out the new system what active
So it’s currently room only? Good to know. I have a room only reservation for this fall and I assumed I’m at the back of the line.

I have a room only package booked, but do have that not-active AP but valid on my file so I wonder if that is why I qualify (have a stay booked and have a ticket purchased)

I think it is a definitely "we don't know" situation, BUT I think as long as you have your reservation with tickets purchased and are 60+ days out I think you are in as good a position as is possible at this point

Catching up, so a collection of comments:

Given this “new system” that is being put into place, and all the time it has probably taken for them to develop it, I think we can understand why it has taken a little longer for WDW to re-open vs. other theme parks.

Gift card and Apple Pay added to MDE for mobile order payment.

As someone who takes advantage of buying gift cards at a discount, I am so happy about this! It is a feature that is WAY overdue.

WRT TAs, one of my friends who is a TA, but not for Disney, said that many of the cruise companies protected the TAs from all the cancellations by allowing them to keep their commissions. I’m sure the hope is that the TAs will work with their clients to rebook for a later date. I’m guessing Disney is not doing this?

I fully expect that once this all passes, we will see a number of operational changes at WDW. This is an opportunity for many businesses to do a hard re-set with regards to how they run. I would not be surprised to see EMH go away for good. Maybe they keep ADRs at 60 days? Will we have to make a park reservation? It will be interesting to see what happens.

ETA: One more comment about CSR and YC conventions: My husband is in the trade show industry, and though there are some scheduled for the fall, the expectation is that those will be cancelled, but that the fourth quarter ones could happen. I know conventions are a little different than trade shows, but I highly doubt there will be large conventions this summer and into early fall.

Inactive and the trip isn’t until 2021? I sure hope that is based on your AP and not your 2021 trip. It doesn’t make sense to give someone with a trip in December the ability to book July 11 before anyone else.

my guess is it was all automated with the system checking for "resort stay booked" + "theme park tickets purchased" ... since I technically meet those requirements that is why I got it - but even if I can get in to the system I assume I still wouldn't be able to book anything for my current trip, but I guess it might let me book another trip or something

I just checked my junk mail and I have 2 different e-mails. One telling me I have access to the new reservation system before tickets go on sale again, and a second identical email leaving that paragraph out. I’m guessing one was because of my AP and the other was because I had a dining reservation or FastPass booked.

still no email here. wierd!

none here either and I have an AP (it's a voucher, not used yet, if that makes a difference) as well as a couple of dining reservations already booked for fall...

So I may be late to the party on this...but:
DAK 8AM-6PM
MK 9AM-7PM
DHS 10AM-8PM
EPCOT 11AM-9PM
Not a coincidence I think that each park has staggered openings and closings across 4 hours.
Conjecture I admit - but I think this is there way of reducing bus traffic/limiting # of people on buses. By eliminate EMH, and likely eliminating restaurants opening before park opening. (No more 8 AM ADRs) This means buses to DAK start at 7 AM, but those are the only buses out there, buses to Epcot don't even start running until 10 AM, so by then they can cut down on the number of buses they need to get people to DAK.

I think this is also another sound indication that park hopping will be eliminated. Since they will need more buses going to each park, the elimination of hopping gets rid of the need to have park-to-park buses. And closure of some of the large "bus only"resorts are likely as well. Funneling people to Pop and CBR allows skyliner access to two parks. Again, all conjecture on my part - but to me it's a pattern.

I think that makes sense - you get the biggest need for transportation at park opening and closing time so you can focus the buses at one park at a time so that fewer people per buss can be maintained

Not sure if park hopping will be eliminated but I think if it does continue a) you will only be able to hop to a park with open reservations (e.g., having a park hopper or APs doesn't entitle you to hop to any park you want) and b) transportation to parks will likely be more limited so people might have to use their own car or ride sharing more to get the value out of it

100% agree.

That's why I imagine that POR/POFQ, CSR, and All Stars are the most likely resorts to remain closed

I haven't gotten anything yet and I have a stay booked this August and PH tickets.

I got the email about fps etc but I have nothing booked and my ap expired last Nov. No idea what they're doing and mde just spins when I try to see if anything's still showing up even though it's expired. I certainly didn't have fp they needed to cancel.

I actually received the same email earlier this morning as well. I don't have a resort stay booked, and the only park admission I have is a CM Silver Spouse Pass.

I agree and especially for a few days they are going to have to deal with a lot of questions they don't have the answer to

One potential benefit is I think this time is showing the value of using a TA - they can handle all the details of the reschedules and stay on the phone with Dis ey and can share what they learn from one case to apply to the next, etc. I didn't ha e a vacation impacted by this but if I did I think I would be really happy if I had a TA vs being on my own.
While I love having a TA for Disney cruises, I like to handle my own WDW reservations. When I think of how many reservations a TA with simultaneously be trying to care for, I'm glad I'll be caring for my own.

It's hard to tell how they're choosing who receives this and who doesn't.

I have 2 trips booked (August and September) both with resort reservations, park tickets and one with a dining plan. All ADR's are (currently) booked for both reservations but no email here either. We go to Disney an average of 2-3 times a year so would be great candidates to try out a new system....I think! ;)

How do people have tickets for 2021 already? Or do you all have annual passes?

I'd laugh myself silly if I got that email for my May 2021 trip! :D
