News Round Up 2020

Finally just got an email to me (wife got a couple, seemed to be the general ones others had gotten), and it's actually different than others I've seen reported. So, not sure if it's already been reported (didn't see it on this thread), but the 35% discount is official. We actually have a few reservations, but, we have a Bounceback Free Dining for 8/22-8/29. I just got an email that specifies they're canceling my dining plan (as we know), but the price of my package will be adjusted to reflect a 35% discount on the room portion of my package.

I'm not AP but I do have multiple trips and I never even got the email saying "whoops! we had to cancel your dining reservations/dining plan" email. It may just be that they're overwhelmed and it's going to take a while to get to everyone. OR there could be other factors involved? I'd be really curious to conduct a survey looking at these variables:

1. When people receive the email
2. Are you an AP holder?
3. When did you book your earliest trip?
4. Do you have room, tickets, a package, a dining plan, dining reservations?
5. Are you a DVC member?
6. What resort are you staying in, if any?
7. What state/country are you coming from?
8. What month/year is your earliest stay booked for?
9. Do you belong to any other "affinity group" or special group? (this might include travel agent, blogger, influencer)

...I think those are the variables I'm most curious about knowing how they might prioritize.
To answer your questions. I got the email right away and the only ticket I have is a complimentary park hopper given to me when my boarding party never got called to ride Rise of the Resistance on opening day. I don’t have any upcoming resort reservations.

Just realize I feel really bad for the travel agents who just had all their hard work cancelled with no income. Now they are going to have to rebook.everyone's dining, and imagine having to try and get 100s of park reservations at the same time? Plus all.the.folks that aren't going to rebook. What a tough time to be a Disney travel agent.

Yeah, it’s pretty rough. They protected our commission up until now but if we now move or cancel trips during their open dates, our commission is gone. Double/triple the work down the drain.

I just checked my junk mail and I have 2 different e-mails. One telling me I have access to the new reservation system before tickets go on sale again, and a second identical email leaving that paragraph out. I’m guessing one was because of my AP and the other was because I had a dining reservation or FastPass booked.

There were 6 versions of the email sent out. Just depended on what bucket you fell into as to which one you got (usually with only a sent or two difference).

100% agree.

That's why I imagine that POR/POFQ, CSR, and All Stars are the most likely resorts to remain closed

I would be willing to bet only DVC resorts open.

While I love having a TA for Disney cruises, I like to handle my own WDW reservations. When I think of how many reservations a TA with simultaneously be trying to care for, I'm glad I'll be caring for my own.
It's hard to tell how they're choosing who receives this and who doesn't.

I have 2 trips booked (August and September) both with resort reservations, park tickets and one with a dining plan. All ADR's are (currently) booked for both reservations but no email here either. We go to Disney an average of 2-3 times a year so would be great candidates to try out a new system....I think! ;)

All emails should be sent out within 48 hours of the announcement.

Does anyone know if they treat AP vouchers the same as APs purchased directly from Disney in this case?

One of my traveling companions with Florida AP got the email but I didn't. My voucher is linked in MDE, and I would have been able to make FPs when the time came, but wasn't able to see the special offers for AP holder discounts.

I wonder if this is the same and if they are going by the same criteria, will they let me reserve park days?

Another question that no one probably can answer at this point, but I thought I would throw it out there, just in case. Since they are dumping the Dining Plans, and limiting AP benefits, anyone know if the dining discount will still be there? Or the merchandise discount? If not, since I only have a voucher, I may choose to save the actual activation for another day, and invest in date-based tickets for my next trip until things get back to some form of normal.

I believe it is still active at Disney Springs so I don’t see why they would get rid of it in the parks.

Oh I’m sure the discounts will stay. Getting rid of DDP was only because they’re not going to have all restaurants open and will have severely limited seating, so they wanted to clear the deck of reservations and dining plans. The discounts will remain.

The only ticket I have on my account is an AP voucher and I got the email saying I will get early access so I assume they are viewed the same

Vouchers are the same as an active AP or tickets. A voucher is what Disney gives you when you purchase the AP online. You don't redeem the AP until your first visit. I think even if you buy it in person, it still has to be redeemed/activated. Although, I have only bridged used tickets for an AP in person, so it was already considered active. I also got the email with an unredeemed AP voucher and DVC stay. I was also able to make FPs with it and get a discount on a tour. I think you can also get AP discounts on hotel rooms, when offered, with an AP voucher. Maybe you hadn't logged in with the AP. There is a special tab/link for APs with MDE. It sometimes doesn't work though.

sorry I guess I wasn't clear about my AP. It was purchased through a third party, not through Disney. It will not be activated until we actually show up for a trip. It has been linked through my mde.

As far as logging in as an AP to look for discounts, I have the understanding that people who have third-party AP vouchers are not able to do this. And I have never been able to do this. Even though I have been able to book fast passes 30 days out. Of course they needed to be canceled again, but I know it works for fastpasses. It does not work for AP discounts and maybe other things. 😁

Ah, OK. I still think you will be OK though. If it allowed you to link it and it works for FP, then I think that's considered valid park admission. Don't feel bad about not seeing AP discounts. Even when I had my previous AP, the website didn't work most of the time.

That is what we have - bought our AP voucher through Undercover Tourist and added it to my MDE but haven't activated it yet (it has an exparation date of 2030)

that is the only ticket-like thing on my account and we got the e-mai

does UT sell annual passes I thought they were only available directly through Disney. Don’t see WDW AP on their web site

So excited to see they are opening soon. The most anticipated attraction of the year will hopefully open with the park.

Did they pause construction like Disney? I expected it to be delayed. Still hoping for AP previews for Iron Gwazi.
