Toronto Zoo Open (for drive-thru Safari)

We had amazing experience today, our tickets were for 1:15 and that is when we entered. It took a little over an hour and me moved amount continually at 5 km/h. We saw almost all of the animals (the lions and giraffes were elusive). The staff were cheerful and all waving with a Disney level of enthusiasm. We witness one car stall and the staff helped them get the car onto another access path and assumedly assisted them in getting it going or towed. The audio tour was entertaining and informative. Altogether a great experience.
Thanks for the report. :)
My kids wanted to do this.

Definitely did not just open on Saturday. Our daughter is a season pass holder. Maybe that's why. Not sure. But it was jam packed with cars.
Makes sense must have been an AP soft open to work out the kinks. The ticketing system was only made available to the public on Friday, and Saturday was the “Grand Opening” with the mayor cutting the ribbon was yesterday morning.

Yes. Members could pre-purchase their tickets last Tuesday for 3 days of preview - Wed. Thurs. and Fri.

Because they controlled how many cars/tickets per time slot they sold they probably fixed the overcrowding issue you experienced earlier. They also had a lot of staff at key photogenic spots to beckon you forward if you decided to stop too long to get the perfect photo (an issue the BMW in front of seemed to have)

also the fact that you are told when to pause and resume the audio tour allows you to keep everything synchronized even if the traffic gets heavier or lighter.

We were just ahead of you, entered at about 12:45. No lions or giraffes for us either, but saw the biggest rhinos ever. Wow, they were huge. Most animals were lounging in the shade and hard to see, especially since you weren’t supposed to stop. They need to pull a Disney and leave snacks around to lure the animals into viewing locations, maybe air condition a few rocks for lions to lounge on. ;-)

To help with planning, people should know that there’s a “gift shop” and “snack bar” set up in the first parking lot you get to, but it’s just tables under 10x10 popups, with a very limited selection. The only washrooms are there too, in the form of a washroom trailer with three units plus an accessible portapotty. Staff sanitized the units between parties (DH had to wait and use mine after me rather than going into the next available) and the line moved pretty quickly. Social distancing rules involved keeping two penguin wingspans from other parties and standing on the paw prints to wait your turn.

Definitely had fun and would do it again, but I will admit that I’m so lockdown stir crazy right now that I’d have taken a tour past displays of stuffed animals if it meant getting out of the house and having some semblance of a normal day.

I would love to do this, but I live alone, not sure how much fun it would be with me alone in my car. :)

If you would love to do it you should. I probably would have enjoyed it better without the little terrors in the back seat. :) The cost is slightly lower with less than three people.

Monday May 25 1:40pm - tickets are available in the queue once again for June 1-June 7. I went into the queue but this time it doesn't say how many tickets are left.

Tues, May 26 at 3:45pm. Tickets are currently sold out. My daughter has expressed interest in this so I'm hoping to surprise her and get tickets next time they're available.

So happy to read that this was good. We're normally season pass holders at African Lion Safari, and I've been thinking about ALS doing this. They already have the drive through as a standard experience. I love the idea of adding a podcast, esp with added bonus of keeping people moving at an approved pace.
I want them to do it both because I am bored and because I want them to survive. I would pay $50 to help them care for animals and give us a field trip.

Just did this experience on May 28, 12:45pm ticket. Big fan of the zoo and wanted to support them.

My husband and I probably had more fun than our kid, but she did admit by the end that it was “a little bit fun”. Saw a giraffe but no lions. Similar to a PP, I was just happy to be out and about for the express purpose of doing something fun!

We did it on the 29th at 1:30pm and there was supposed to be bad weather but it came before we took our tour and after we got home. We had a great time. We didn't see the giraffe or the lions but saw a tiger lounging in the grass and we saw tons of pink flamingos and lots and lots of Canada Geese. There are great opportunities to see lots of the animals.
It was funny because we listened to the audio tour and when they mentioned the capybaras my brother, nephew and I were like oh we want to see them and my nephews girlfriend was like you guys are weird because we all said it at the same time. Guess she didn't hear about the escaping ones a couple of years ago from the High Park zoo.
I would go back again for another tour. They seem to be releasing new tickets every week now and I am sure that they will be easier to come by now that the first rush is over.

LOL. The capybaras weren’t visible when we drove past, and DH and I simultaneously made the comment that they must have escaped.
