Resort Change by Disney

They aren’t taking rooms reserved for other guests and those people modifying are only getting to move to DVC or FW. But there’s no question that they are reducing future availability when modifying reservations. That said, I don’t imagine they’re overrun with people willing to pay rack rate for a DVC property.
I do agree with you that its probably a small amount willing to pay that price increase

We had a reservation at YC from 7/3-7/7. I spoke to a CM on Sunday and rescheduled at FW Cabins from 7/31-8/7. The CM said the new rate was the "recovery rate." I was concerned we were going to be charged a rack rate. FYI it was $260 nightly. IDK enough about FW Cabins pricing to know if that was a deeply discounted rate.
I paid $420 a night for the Cabins in order to get the free dining plan, which has now been canceled.

I don't recall me calling them a liar. There is alot of false information that has been going around since April so I don't see a problem with me questioning someone with drastically different information who hasnt posted in almost 5 years.

“ Don't buy any of that story one bit” I’m not arguing the point any further. It’s not drastically different from the other mysterious cancellations that have been reported. Sounds just like them.

I just don't buy it that Disney would give away space to people who weren't reserved for a date at the expense of people who do that would be a PR nightmare.

I am confused. Right now, everyone who has a trip at a closed resort is in the same boat.

Seems fair to me that they offer open rooms on a first come first serve basis to move dates because all resorts are closed.

As they get to the next guest, they will be able to move their trip to open dates..

Are you saying that people who have July trips should have priority over June simply because a park is open? Not sure what that has to do with the resorts.

TA is telling us it must have been linked incorrectly when original travel dates were moved

I am a TA and this doesn't even make sense. My agency is large and one of the platinum earmarked agencies and to my knowledge there have been no reports of this happening among our clients reservations. I would be calling and emailing Disney myself over and over.

Some people have rescheduled multiple times but the idea behind a contract/reservation is that you have some protection to your plans. And first come first serve doesn't really apply when you limit whose allowed to be served.

And it's one thing to cancel a reservation when something is closed and another to sell it to someone else for more money.

I attempted to speak to someone earlier today who referred me back to my agent. I agree, it doesn’t make sense. Their error shouldn’t cost me money.

First come first serve based on your trip...early dates get to choose to move or cancel.

Again, if someone is at a closed resort and it remains closed during the stay, then Disney can cancel...or, offer a guest to book a new one.

Guess, I’m just not seeing why someone with a reservation later would have priority over someone with an earlier trip when both guests are at closed resorts.

AFAIK, they are not canceling someone at DVC or Ft Wildnerness so no one is losing a room at an open resort because people are being moved to or paying to change their trip.

No one from an open resort...DVC or Ft Wildnerness is being canceled. So, any guest at those resorts are safe...what is happening doesn’t impact them at all.

If you have availability for 15k resort guests to go in parks and you have 14k people already booked for a time frame of opening you can't go and switch 2k people to that opening and remove 1k already booked. I never said they were cancelling...I replied to you that disney wouldn't do that because that PR hit would be massive.

I called five times today. The first time the CM told me I could only cancel or modify to between 7/11-12/31 and pay the upgrade difference. The second CM put me through to the "special team" the wait said more than 60 minutes, so I decided to go for my run and call back later. The third and fourth CM told me the same as the first, could only modify to 7/11-12/31 and pay difference. Finally the fifth CM put me through to the "special team" where I waited only about 10 minutes.

I was originally at ASSp 7/4-7/18 preferred room. I was upgraded at no cost to SSR preferred deluxe studio.

I also have a reservation 7/8-7/22 so I'll wait to see what's going on with those dates before deciding exactly what to do.

In normal times, I agree with you if all resorts were open. I just don’t agree that because someone is at a closed resort in July they should have been given priority to be moved into the open rooms because parks will be open over someone in June who was at the same closed resort.

I guess we'll find out. Plus none of this would matter if all resorts were open.

UPDATE:
I hung up after 4 hours the first time and then called back at 8. I stayed on hold another 2 hours and someone finally picked up. I told her we couldn’t change our dates, and she said since we were at Pop they would need to move us and there would only be one option. I then heard here typing on her keyboard and saying “...hmm” frequently. She then said, “they must think you need a lot of space because they put you in a 3BR grand villa at SSR.”

She then put me on hold again to calculate the price after removing the tickets and free dining from the recovery package. She came back and said it would be $508 for the 3 nights. Wow! Now currently recruiting friends/family to fill the place up. Lol.
Greatest upgrade of all time!

I think I understand what you are getting at...

I have ASMo booked for July 25-29. If my resort is closed and I call to be moved (whether free or pay) and there’s nothing available because June people were allowed to move their dates. My only option is to modify to different dates. Highly problematic for us as we have a “safe” dvc stay ahead of our movies stay. Definitely not fair and not a good way to do business but I’m hoping Disney is taking the current booked reservations into account when allowing people to book at that time.

Is this what you are concerned about?

I agree with you there! Again, since we don’t know when things will open, and Disney may, they options for those later on might be more,

Once other resorts open up, those at closed resorts will have more options than just DVC as well.

Bingo and less of a concern and more of pointing out I couldn't see Disney doing that.
