JULY W.I.S.H. Challenge - Summer of Positive Change

This was a better food week because I increased quality protein by having salmon for dinner three times. I also had refined sugar several days, so that is where I need to re-focus, I think increasing protein is going to help with the sugar cravings. The one pound I lost came back on and has stayed, so I'm currently at the same weight I started and ended June at, dang it. I do now have the March WDW trip to focus on as an end-goal, somehow having WDW reopen and having people post from their visits makes it feel more real: if I can get back to -4 pounds per month I'd be in great shape by March.

I haven't done any not-allowed shopping this week, altho I have been tempted several times. When that happens I pay really close attention to triggers, how it feels etc, so I can train myself out of it for the long term. Next I need to get serious about going thru what I've got, and clearing the house out.

We are going to get some sunshine this weekend - woohoo for that! I wrecked the little toe on my left foot last night, kicking the desk cycle. I don't think it's broken but it hurts all the way back into the foot, so I don't think I'll be doing any walking/hiking this weekend as even getting shoes on is going to be a challenge. Dang it again.

@piglet1979 so sorry to hear about this sad time for your family

Friday thoughts - I have been struggling a little the last 2 weeks - I am off with consistency with my eating and exercise. I am not completely off with eating - but just enough to play with my weight loss too much - the same with my exercise. As a result I have been going in circles for 2 weeks. So as of Saturday morning back to basics and focus - I have found that I need to do that 30 minute walk and then hopefully another one later in the day - it splits the effort and I think I have read and been told by PTs in the past that it will then give me more periods in the day where my body will benefit from that after exercise calorie burn. Chocolate has also crept in this week - so that really needs to be cut right back again!

I have also been struggling a little emotionally the last few days I can get teary at times out of no-where - not entirely sure where that is coming from - it was instigated by a disagreement with DS16 - but I suspect there is more to it than that :) It has been 2 weeks school break here at the moment - so kids are back to school on Monday - I have done a little bit of work from home - but mostly needed the break. So I am too am back to work on Monday - but still using home as a base and visiting schools/students as necessary - I will need to visit my office though periodically as well. They opened our state borders at lunch time today except for people from on state (victoria) that is currently having a significant rise in community spread. There have been over 200,000 applications from people to enter our state (they have to declare they have not been in victoria for at least 2 weeks, no Covid symptoms and agree to testing if required during their stay - essentially for holiday - I live in a tourist area on the coast - I will admit I am nervous - I really don't want all the hard work that we Queenslander's have put in to do the right thing and suppress community spread undone by people who value their WANTS over their NEEDS at the moment with unnecessary travel around Australia. I feel for all of you in the US at the moment - this is such a tiring year emotionally - and you are doing it much tougher than we are down here at the moment.

Okay - I am off to see my physio and work on my physical health :)
Maybe a delayed reaction to all the recent and big changes in your life?
Not to mention everything else going on. Easy to understand feeling emotional at times.

Gloomy and overcast today-pre Covid a great day to go shopping but I think I will clean out my linen closet instead.

I have a new marinade recipe to share. We tried it last night and my husband said it’s a keeper!

Greek Chicken Marinade

3 tsp minced garlic
1 T red or white vinegar
3 T lemon juice (about one fat lemon)
1 T olive oil
3 T Greek yogurt, preferably full fat
1 1/2 T dried oregano
1 tsp kosher salt
1/4 tsp pepper

Squish together all the above in a large ziplock bag and add 2lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs (about 6) and marinate several hours-I let them marinate about 8 hours. I also could have added additional thighs, it makes a lot.
We grilled them but I think the oven would would work well-maybe 400 degrees.

This week started out good. I have been getting up still at 7:30 am to walk since it is in the 90's here and much nicer to walk at 7:30 then later in the day. Yesterday, I went to my moms. She is moving and is giving me her out door chairs. We went to Hobby Lobby and got new cushions and spray paint. We panted them blue. They are so nice. Things were going pretty good until later last night. We got a text from my mom say my Aunt (they one I mentioned last month that was diagnosed for the 5th time with cancer) was in the hospital and unresponsive. The doctors were asking about a will. My step-dad (this is his sister) has power over her medical and power of attorney. Thankfully she does and it takes all the weight off of my step-dad's shoulders. As long as 2 doctors agree that nothing else can be done she does not want any life saving measures done. They do agree. We also found out that she also has brain cancer. She is being moved to hospice. It has been a pretty upsetting day for me and I am PMSing. All I want is chocolate or just comforting food. I am really trying to keep it together as much as I can right now. I don't want to upset the kids. They do know what is going on. They have seen me cry today but I don't want to completely lose it. I think the most upsetting is we are not sure right now if anyone can be with her right now. The virus numbers in my county are rising. We have a 4 code level now in Ohio. it is by county. We are level 3 with a star. Level 3 is counties to watch with numbers rising and masks are mandatory. The star means we are very close to level 4 the highest level. This is not helping with my stress at all. All I want to do is eat. It is too hot to be outside today. The real feel is about 100 today. It was really bad at 7:30. Walking would help get this stress out. Tomorrow will be better and should be able to get more walking in.
I'm so sorry that you are going through such a difficult and sad time. The added stress of Covid just makes everything worse. I hope that things calm down and get better for your family.

I'm sorry that you are struggling emotionally. It would be so much easier for all of us if everyone was responsible and vigilant instead of giving into personal impulses putting the rest of us in danger as a result. Try to focus on yourself and your needs...find some peace of mind...and take it one day at a time.

@piglet1979, huge :grouphug: - Everything with your Aunt would be so very stressful during normal times, and it’s only made more complicated now.

And to everyone just feeling down or “off” or overwhelmed, you are not alone! I think a lot of people are feeling “Covid fatigue” right now. I’m reading it in other threads here, seeing it in my family and friends, and feeling it myself. The current state of things is just sapping the energy that we all used to use to manage whatever issues we each have to deal with, and everything is just harder.

I have been off the thrush medicine for a week, and my GERD symptoms are just beginning to calm down. I've lost my voice. I rested my voice for the past two days, and I'm going to try to talk today. If my voice starts cutting out again, I will stop talking. The burning in my throat is beginning to subside and it no longer feels like I have a lump in my throat. I still have coughing fits, but not nearly as often as before. Next time I get thrush, I cannot take clotrimazole. I will have to take diflucan. I have been suffering from horrible side effects from antibiotics and thrush meds since June 3rd. Enough already.

Well, the dentist office called to confirm my oral surgery appointment on Wednesday at 3:00pm. This appointment was supposed to be the consultation for the surgery under anesthesia, but the tooth pain is too much, so I guess it will be novocaine and laughing gas. I'm such a chicken when it comes to dental work, so I'm going to need a lot of prayers leading up to this. At this point, I need this to be over. Next will be the healing, then the bridge or implant. I guess it's good that my trip to WDW had to be cancelled or I wouldn't be able to afford all of this dental work.

Tropical Storm Fay is arriving this afternoon and staying overnight, so we are hunkering down. Hopefully we keep our power and don't have any property damage.

I hope that everyone's day and weekend improves. I'm thinking of all of you. :grouphug:

Thank you everyone. I am doing a bit better today. I am giving myself a day to eat crappy and then get myself back on back on track. We don't know when she will pass. It can be days or weeks so I can't wallow for long or I will gain a ton of weight.

And for COVID I just need take it day by day. I did go to the store today and the were making you wear masks and that made me feel better about going. I am not looking forward to going to work on Monday since I will be in the office. If we hit level 4 here we will be back on stay at home orders. I am hoping an email will go out today saying we will be back to working fully from home. I just feel more comfortable here. Next week we should hear about school for the fall. I am really hoping we have an option for on-line. I do not want to send my kids.

I hope you have an option too. Right now, my school system in CT is giving parents the option, and teachers like me who won't be safe in school will most likely be teaching those students who will be doing distance learning. NYC is doing the same thing.

Hello Dearies!

PIxie dust for everyone, stat!!!!

Actually, that's not far from the truth… my teen girls are being so absolutely horrendous tonight that I lit some kitchen sage on fire in an old candle jar and blew the smoke at them. Interestingly enough, they are settling down now...

Terrible news here... I decided to write a note to Tom Hiddleston today, to tell him I enjoy his work and appreciate the distraction... was going to email, but apparently he prefers snail mail, so then I double-checked the address for his agency, and they are not currently accepting mail due to the virus. Silly Disney Prince doesn't appear to have a facebook, and I'm not techy enough for instagram or twitter... Tragedy! Doom Gloom! I must go make a hole in the river now.... (Ok, so maybe the teenage hormones are contagious...)

Saturday went okay I got 1 walk in today and have eaten better - it is amazing the difference between generic and brand name medicine - they have the same active ingredient - but I definitely feel more side effects from the generic - I am getting some dizziness :( I had gotten to the point with the brand name ones that I could just throw it down and move on with my day going on a walk within a few minutes and not be worried - I am hating this - especially as I spent so much time getting over feeling dizzy this year already.

Sometimes I think the side effects of the medicines we take are worse than the ailments we take them for. I hope you are able to get your brand name again soon.

Hope you enjoy your break and that - the work issue was resolved and you are ok.

They have all resolved themselves but it has been a summer of one thing after another. This break has been great.

I have this issue with my birth control. The brand I use has several generic ones. One of them makes me really dizzy. I have to make sure before I pick them up that they have filled it with the right generic one. It is a big pain in the butt. I hope you are doing better.
