Anyone have tips/ideas for obtaining an American Cellphone?

Have an old lg ZONE4 that was used a couple of years ago, unfortunately however, the number was NOT kept active and I do not have a phone number in the USA. The phone is great and has many useful apps including UBER and MDE (although I suppose I will have to remake a new UBER account since the old number is gone). I believe Verizon was the company the phone worked with (and I also think, but I'm not sure, it may be impossible to use it with any other company since the phone is locked).

Obviously having a USA number is critical for Disney's MDE, dining, tansportation, dining etc etc. Last time the wireless company offered a temporary 30 day prepaid service, but they refused to keep the number assigned to you (why I don't know since it costs them nothing) unless you pay quite a bit - and I can't justify paying so much just to maintain a number that you will only be using a few weeks a year. I do not want to pay a lot every month just to maintain a number in the USA (although a couple of dollars might be okay) especially if that number will make be impossible to get messages on when outside the USA.

Anyone have a suggestion on some way to set up by internet a phone service AHEAD of arriving in Miami international for our next WDW trip? Thanks!

Are you able to sign up for Google Voice? We were able to get daughter a free phone # to use on her laptop that way. Not sure if you have to have a US backup # though.

Will you have a rental car? If so, get a burner phone from Target, WalMart or somewhere close by. That will be a prepaid phone.

if not, i Will come up with some other ideas.

oops. You want to have it before you arrive.
where are you coming from?

Google voice would be great - BUT I think you need a US number first.. Anyone ever heard of sonetel.com? Seems they offer a solution at a reasonable price

Is there a reason you need to keep it when you go home? My kids have tracphone/stright talk from walmart. We buy minutes online as low as $10. A month. When we were at Disney they stayed on disney wifi so they never used any data.
The smart phones $40

Just want to save time even more than money on the trip and avoid a trip to a Walmart or cell phone store.. I believe I can activate the old phone BY phone without going to a Verizon store, so likely thats what I'll do

There is a UK forum here also. You might ask your question there to see what they are typically doing.

You might have better luck getting an answer if you ask it on the Global Neighbors thread. You can find it by scrolling down on the Disboard forum

^^ I agree, any of the areas which overseas participants could provide more input on this topic. I have never heard of this being an issue for other international travelers, so I assume some of them could provide input on what they have done when visiting Disney.

Maybe a thread could be started? (unless of course there already is one)

The fact this doesn't seem to be a common discussion topic indicates to me there is probably already a simple solution for those traveling internationally. If lots of people had this problem, seems it would be a frequently discussed topic.
