What’s on everyone’s mind this morning?

I’m posting from my phone right now, out with one of the cats, as is the usual morning pattern lately. This is a pic I took or her the other day:

And here is where August stands so far:

Your cat is beautiful!
We’re getting some much needed rain this morning. So a good day to get a few things done around the house. I’m still working on de-cluttering and the closet in my daughter’s old bedroom could use a clearing out.
Hope to get out for a walk later-if it’s not raining too hard I actually enjoy walking under the trees.
Happy weekend, everyone!

What a beauty!

I bought two new books this week... oops. One is called "How to do Nothing" and is about the commercialization of social media and what the author calls the "attention economy", which is something I get sucked in to all the time (heck, that's how I heard about the book). The only social media I do is IG, but I'm addicted to it and on it all the time and it regularly triggers the shopping addiction. The other book is "Thriving as an Empath: 365 Days of Self Care for Sensitive People" which has daily passages and meditations. Today's entry is about experiencing pleasure and it occurred to me that I haven't been doing that lately, so it is a good reminder. We have some nice cloud action going on this morning, so I started the day by doing the beach-loop-drive which was really enjoyable because so few people were there. I've been thinking about doing morning drives while the days are still long and this morning was so pleasurable I'm convinced it is the right way to start the day.

My main objective for this weekend is to get some stuff out of the house, I have to open up space to breathe and move. If I can't find any place that's open for donations, I might at least start to move stuff out to the garage. Not sure where I'll go for my Sunday drive, but I would like to make it somewhere different.

We ended a five day heatwave with a huge thunderstorm overnight. I was fortunate enough to sleep through it, but poor DD was up half the night. We woke up to 72 degrees and cloudy weather. Heaven.

So, for the first time in weeks, I was able to take a walk on the beach.

I feel bad I am not ready to pull my all too abundant weight, but I am too chicken to offer to host yet. So sorry. Chicken Little Disneyclips.com See, I don't even know how to insert all those cool images you use. I have work-arounds for school, but...

That’s ok! You’ll get a feel for it pretty quickly!
For photos, I go to Google images, do a search and save to my photos. Or I see an image and save it. Then use attach files. I am not as savvy as some of the others, but enjoy looking for images and quotes.

No worries @gardenrooms! There is no pressure to host until you’re ready.

today is Social Saturday, but I’m away from my computer (on phone right now “walking” cat - which consists of watching her sit under the tree with bird feeder 😆) so I will post what I had planned when I’m back in the house.

Today's Social Saturday question was inspired by these old photos from Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, that I saw online recently:515074
Like Fred here, I believe it's important not to feel like you have to do everything perfectly! So what are you "not very good at" but love to do, and do enthusiastically anyway?

For me, it's singing. I can't carry a tune with a handle on it. 😆 But I love to sing, and do it frequently in the car. :teeth:

So much catching up to do....

First of all, I can do the first week of August...but I don’t think I’ve ever started a new thread. I can try to play around with it tomorrow...but I might be back to ask for help ;)

Now backtracking to Thursday...I’m thankful for living in a development with so many friendly people and kids similar in age to mine. But I was also thankful for the quarantine time when the kids just stayed in the house and we had quality family time.

Friday update...kitchen renovation is moving along, but I honestly didn’t realize how many tiny little decisions there would be to make...like how high up do I want the crown molding above the cabinets and where do I want electrical outlets, etc. I’m also loving my new workout program. As much as I want to stay in bed some days, it does motivate me to get out of bed! Also, I met my goal of walking/running/biking to Outer Banks.:cool1:
As for social Saturday, I’m not great at dancing, but I have a hard time sitting still when music is playing! And I enjoy making TikTiks with my daughter, although I’m sure it’s embarrassing to her 😉

Thank you all for your patience and sjrec for your suggestions. I'm always worried about copyrights too (hence the citation on the chicken which their website asked for).

I would have to join the singing crowd. Love to sing but I am so bad I lip sync even in my car when I am alone and the windows are up because I don't like to hear myself ruin a song.

But that's one of the many great things about being a teacher of small children. They are so eager for new things they think you are wonderful at everything you do for them (the poor things have to listen to me when I teach them a new song), including singing and even drawing (I am the world's worst)! Oh, I miss those little faces on the carpet with me learning a new song. Last year in one of our virtual meetings we were learning De Colores for Cinco de Mayo in English and Spanish when my principal dropped in. People sometimes don't realize in Google Meets that their frowns show up very clearly. I guess she thought I was wasting my time, but I don't and I will continue to sing with my new class and hope we will eventually get to do it in person. I love to hear them go around singing a new song all day.

It took me a minute because most of the things I enjoy, I'm good at. Then it came to me...I love to dance!

I was a born klutz, but no matter how stupid I might look on the dance floor, I really enjoy dancing to good music. Back in the day...the 80's-early 90's...I went clubbing with my friends and sometimes with my boyfriend every Friday and Saturday night. Going out with the girls, it was a whole thing. We'd go to the gym in the morning and work out. Then go to the mall in the afternoon to buy a cute outfit, usually a mini skirt. We would end up at one of our houses, get showered, do our nails, hair (lots of Aqua Net hairspray), make-up, and get dressed up together. We'd hit the club, order an Alabama Slammer or Long Island Iced Tea, and dance the night away with each other. Sometimes we would dance with guys, but we didn't need them to have fun. We actually had more fun without them. We would be on the dance floor the majority of the 4-5 hours we were there. It was the most fun I've ever had in my life. This went on from age 17 (we looked so old, we didn't even get carded) until age 27 when I met my DH.

My DH is a hockey player, and more of a beer drinker in a pub than a club guy. The only time we have danced over the last 27 years was at weddings. I truly miss it. Now, I'm nowhere in the physical condition that I used to be in and would never last four hours on the dance floor. I hope to be in better shape by the time my DD gets married so that I can dance at her reception.

My greatest talent as a gardener is planting things in the wrong spot. I have a Quince bush next to the front walkway that gets cut back to stubs each year else it’ll completely block the path. I have Russian Sage plants in the strip along the driveway, so this time of year I’m whacking them with the car door as I get in/out... and they are full of bees. But I persist, and keep adding things to the garden. In the wrong spots.

When I was at the crafting retreat in Alaska (two years ago?!?) one of the gals was talking about learning a new skill and said something to the affect of "I thought I would be good at it, but wasn't". This really resonated with me because we tend to assume we are going to be bad at something new and is it so powerful to assume going in that we are going to rock it... and being willing to say "oh well" if it doesn't work out that way, instead of beating ourselves up, is also a power position.
