NBA at Walt Disney World

Do we really want to see Disney become the hub for all sports? I don't. I get why for the NBA, but let's not keep this going all of next year too. They'll never get the tourists back if they have such limited hotel options.
I would. Because those sports will keep the company afloat so that it’s still in operation in a few years when the tourists are ready to fully come back to the property. As Disney is seeing right now, people aren’t coming out in droves like they were hoping. I wouldn’t be surprised if Disney isn’t reaching out to the NFL with feelers.

Theme park demand and the whole travel industry is going to be a mess for a while. This is one way for Disney to cash-in and possibly survive if you believe the worst-case scenarios.

Disney still has resorts that are completely shut down. Selling product to sports may be providing some much needed cash to WDW.

I don’t know. I think it could be done if the right amount of money was exchanged. They could close a couple more resorts down (or just not reopen CS and a few others). They do have 17 fields at ESPN that could accommodate NFL games. They would just need to have goal posts installed on some of them.
If Disney really wanted to make it work, they could. But I doubt they will.
They would need more than 3 hotels for it to work. You have roughly 100 or so essential personnel including players per team. None of those fields are up to NFL standards either. That’s 3200 right there alone. Not to mention league personnel and other staff needed like the NBA got with DJs, barbers, etc. You would be looking at probably 4000 hotel rooms? They would all need to be deluxe-ish level too. These players aren’t staying at all-stars.

They wouldn’t be getting tourists back without it either. Right now it’s uncertainty and travel restrictions playing a major role in people coming.

I just think next year will be different as far as travel and restrictions. :)

If they do contracts/deals now with NBA, MLB, NFL (I hope I used correct acronyms)... for next year and things change, it could bite them in the behind. Who knows!
:D

I think they could probably keep the theme parks open too, even though a 1/3 of the rooms would be booked.

Not really. There isn't an imaginary sphere around Disney World either. They would just have to get the external hotels to comply with the rules of the Disney bubble.
No but keeping them within property would be the biggest and best option. They could use the swan and dolphin of course but venturing much outside of that isn’t great.

I def agree. Maybe Disney rents hotels outside the bubble for guests who want to visit the Theme Parks.

The NFL is way too greedy to give up what they would have to give up to move to a bubble.
This is the biggest issue. The owners are also way too set on the idea of possibly having fans in the seats by the middle of the season. So unfortunately with the travel involved the NFL will most likely face the same hurdles as the MLB currently is.

Most of my extended family are Saints season ticket holders. Their options are stupid right now and about as clear as mud.

:scared1::scared1::scared1:

I'm imagining the phone call when they tell me I can't stay at GDT next May due to basketball, so they are moving me to Wyndham whatever....

:rotfl:

I know, but if Disney picks you up with ME and has buses to the theme parks, it may suffice with some.

Maybe the demand won't be there for it IDK.

Right. Disney as a vested interest in getting the NBA going because it airs on ABC. NFL does not, though the other networks might want to pull together and develop a similar plan to what the NBA did. It does seem to be working well so far. Disney is lucky to have already had the infrastructure to do something like this, but between the NFL, CBS, NBC, & Fox, I think they can figure something out.
