"Official" 2020 MVMCP (Cancelled) Special holiday festivities start Nov 6th new info starts in Page 12

Didn't see anything specific mentioned about the Christmas Tree Trail at Disney Springs. I'm guess that is out this year too because of social distancing.

"Shifting gears to Disney Springs, guests will discover Christmas around every corner as they come across a collection of elaborately-decorated Disney Christmas trees spread throughout this retail, dining and entertainment destination. "

So sounds like it's not the dedicated trail, but they'll have various trees throughout DS.

Missing the Castle lighting is the most depressing. Sure, they don't want crowds lingering and if I had to guess, hanging the lights takes more in person manpower than the projections--those workers are probably furloughed! They might even keep the projections random, so people don't stand and wait. Curious about NYE, though. Usually the decorations and such stay up through Marathon Weekend.

sunset in Orlando is Nov is around 5:30pm

You still need a good 30 minutes or so after sunset for it to get dark. I would think projections would look washed out at sunset. If the plan is to have a carousel of different projections, it doesn't give a lot of time for people to see them.

I completely understand not doing the party but - no castle lights? They could skip the lighting show and still have them. Maybe they're afraid of all the Christmas crowds around the castle - but then why bother with the custom projections which will effectively do the same thing?

I just hope this isn't a permanent "feature" (come see the holiday projections on the castle as is tradition! What fun!)
That’s what I’m worried about... they have seemed to move more and more towards projections in recent years. Hopefully, it’s not replacing the lights forever.

Any thoughts on why it all ends December 30th? We usually go at Christmas but leave by the 26th. This year we are booked for the 26th-Jan 1 so wondering what will be happening on NYE. Not that I expect much, just curious.

NYE plans have not been set in stone or announced yet

Maybe they are hoping to lower the usual crowds on NYE by only having it through the 30th.

I would be shocked if they didnt extend MK, HS, and Epcot until at least 8pm every night.

AK i can see them closing earlier.
I think they will be taking notes on how the crowds behave these 2 months and then extend if necessary They could still close at 6 and 7 but then leave the park open, just without the rides, an hour after closing so people can see the projections and trees and such. Even now the main stores are open 30 minutes after park closing

Agreed. I think the entire Fall period they will be testing hours, new openings, etc. and adjusting accordingly.

ohhhh thats interesting and a good idea.

Closing the parks at 6 or 7 so no new guests can enter but also at the same time letting those there already stay for an extra hour or 2.

it would also help trickle people out so not everyone leaves at the same time. I think these next 2 months will be very telling in terms of demand versus offering

And here is another thought on what was NOT mentioned in the announcement, neither confirmed it was happening nor confirmed it was not, and that is fireworks. Currently BOTH Shanghai Disney and Tokyo Disney are having nightly fireworks so it begs the question, if there then why not here? Especially within the next 2+ months, unless it boils down to reasons beyond "safety" as the conditions for that are pretty much the same everywhere. One can be hopeful, right? LOL!!!

Annnd the gingerbread houses are cancelled too 😢
That was expected. Too expensive to make and too much of a bottleneck for people to stop and look at them. All other decorations are stored each year in the Christmas warehouse, so they just need to be pulled out and put up (even the huge trees are stored in pieces with all ornaments already in place). Gingerbread houses need to be baked, have the interior scaffolding put up, and then installed over the course of a few days. Too expensive and plus some of the resorts that have them aren’t even going to be fully open by the time this starts (like BW and BC). Only the villa sides are open.

I’m a bit bummed about no icicle lights. I have to assume it’s a cost cutting measure. The cost to troubleshoot, set them up, and take them down is probably much higher than projection lighting. I sincerely hope icicles come back next year!
