Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I'm thinking we literally don't know. Could be this weekend, could be Dec. And even then the guidelines are anybody's guess.

So very frustrating. I've spent all morning planning out a WDW trip and I'm feeling pretty good about it. The only thing making me pause is that I booked through Get Away Today so I can switch my DL tickets to WDW but this means no changing my mind if I switch to WDW and a week later Disneyland gets the green light.

But, at least for WDW, I don't think it was too long before they opened up ticket sales.

When is your trip for? Because lets be real at this point doubtful DL opens in October. And with the latest rumors the first half of November is looking less likely.

My newest attempt was going to be for the first week of December but now that we're in October that's starting to feel pretty close... and I don't want to push it out any further in December because of the whole quarantine when we get back debacle before the holidays.

I told my husband that I’m giving DL/California until next Friday to announce something. If they announce guidelines that allow us to keep our DL trip, great! If they announce guidelines that don’t work for us, then we switch to WDW. If they don’t make an announcement, we switch to WDW. We’re scheduled for DL 10/25-10/31. I think I would try and keep that week or push it back one week for WDW.

But hotels are allowed to be open, as are restaurants. They are all following their respective guidelines. The theme parks need to be treated as separate entities. You can't hold the theme parks responsible for what goes on in neighboring hotels and restaurants. Those industries are responsible for following their guidelines.

Theme park guidelines need to be based SOLELY on what goes on inside the gates of those locations. It isn't fair to bring in other business sectors as factors that influence the guidance for one specific sector. That is not being done with any other sectors guidelines, to my knowledge.

And Disney has already worked out the "lines and rides" portion, so what is left?
Well Said! :wave2:

So we still think there is a chance for late November, but we may go ahead a book a reservation at WDW just in case. Not sure yet, we need to do some talking tonight.

I think they will still push to open Nov 1st. I just think they are trying to get the miles restriction lifted. At this point I think I am going to just go to WDW sometime. Southwest has some pretty cheap flights from the Bay Area to Orlando for November.

Hi TikiTikiFan
Just curious about your neck of the woods: so you have to Quarantine if you head to WDW then back to California?
Is that for two weeks and do you just do that in your own home?
Hope your planning/trip goes well if you decide on that option - haven't been to WDW since 2014 but planning a trip for both coasts in Nov/Dec 2022 - hoping we'll be able to fly out of our country by then and the world is back to some sort of normality!

I am struggling with the validitiy of this rumor in the first place. where did it even start and why should we believe it?

There is no way of knowing the validity of the initial rumor with the mileage restrictions, not opening until yellow, etc. I personally doubt those were part of the guidelines. Holding one industry to those guidelines while others don’t have to adhere to them likely would not hold up in court. Court challenges to other guidelines have so far been unsuccessful, so I suspect guidelines are picked apart by a legal team before being released.

But who knows. It’s all speculation at this point.

I live in Colorado but I was planning on quarantining for two weeks when we get back just to be a responsible traveler. 🥰 We’ll probably get tested too. I don’t want to cut it too close to the holidays since we spend them with my mom and she’s in her 70s.

I hope your trips pan out, things have got to look better by then!

So the initial rumor came from Carlye Wisel on twitter and was retweeted by Scott Gustin. Those two are the most reliable out there for Disney information. They are genuine theme park journalists, and don't have any other motives for putting things out there (no click-bait blogs or anything relying on viewer counts). In fact, if they were to consistently publish incorrect information, it would harm their reputations and livelihoods. Now, that's not to say things won't change between rumor and fact. But I'm willing to believe that what they say for the most part.

Ahhh, that makes sense! Hope you get to go and have a great time with your family.
I had to cancel a trip in July for the 65th - it's so hard to believe this is still going on, who could have imagined :(

Yes, the rumor is a good one. From the version I have heard, yellow tier is not part of it (I believe Orange is the tier color being required) And it was to be published this afternoon, however all parties have walked it back for "further discussions". I'm just waiting to see how it plays out. The distance is a sticking point between parties.).

I have WDW all planned out ready to go and I’m ready to pull the trigger. I’m going to see how the beginning of next week goes before bailing. Disneyland feels like home to me and there’s something about that comfort I want so much right now with everything being so stressful.

But if we end up going to WDW (first time in over 10 years, son had never been!) I am sure it will be magical too.
