Anyone else worried about fall supplies?

Flour, and especially yeast, are still hard to find in my area.
Not as bad as disinfecting wipes and sprays, though. (I still have yet to see Clorox or Kirkland wipes from Target and Costco since pretty much this whole thing started. One has to be lucky to be in the stores on the right day and time to have a chance.)
Try getting there at opening. By 9am a lot of things are gone.

My area is pretty well stocked. There are random items where the shelves aren't fully stocked, or the store has a limit per customer (rice, canned soups, etc). Today, my DD's teacher asked for sidewalk chalk. Today I also found out that sidewalk chalk is something that has been impossible to find in my area since March.

I always shop soon after opening and have found various hard to find items throughout the pandemic. Much more pleasant shopping experience too.

People are choosing to run scared. this will not last forever.

i don't think people are running scared. i think for many they are running short of hours in the day. people know what shortages they've seen in their region, what shortages they are seeing now. demands of lifestyle changes due to school closures, alternate working conditions and general concerns about wanting to minimize unnecessary trips to stores (always a concern when flu season approaches let alone the added impact of covid) have many choosing to 'stock up' vs. running to the store multiple times a week.

It seems to be happening again. We went out for our bi-monthly shopping trip today. Target was out of things like Shout and toilet bowl cleaner (two of the things I needed, plus huge spans of empty shelves in the cleaning aisles). Costco was totally out of all paper towels and toilet paper, with very limited supplies left of Kleenex-type products.

My initial plan for today's excursion was to start buying a bit ahead for some of the items that will keep and then go back in two more weeks to finish off my shopping, hoping that what we picked up will carry us through the time surrounding Thanksgiving and at least two weeks after that. I want to avoid the stores as much as possible post-holiday. Now, I am a little apprehensive about coming up short with some of the stuff I needed for our family of five--not that we would be found wanting in any capacity, but it is just more reassuring to have the things we need sitting on our shelves and not have to keep running to the store to check on the items we are low on. I had honestly hoped that we wouldn't return to this kind of scarcity again.

There are definitely changes in the stores. Went to Sam's Club this week, and the hamburger, while not rationed, is in a smaller package (5 lb instead of 8 lb) but still costs the same. Pepsi sold in 24 packs, not the 36 packs they used to be and limit of 5. Only had Bounty paper towels, no Member's Mark and there was a limit of one multi-pack.

I have see a lot more wipes (in canisters as well as packages) recently. And hand sanitizer is all over the place.

I'm now worried I won't be able to get a flu shot. Everywhere I go, they are out. The pharmacies get them in in trickles, 40 here, 30 there. They're gone within the hour. One place said they ordered 200 and were told they'd get 150 the next day, but only got 40. They had to cancel appointments. Crazy stuff.

Also, still waiting for Lysol wipes. I have enough for now, but I'm down to the end of my stash and would like to replenish.

Another one that's hard to get is Bounty towels. We might have to start going old-school and use my old tea towels to do those jobs. That's okay by me, but trying to convince my DH and kids that they need to use a towel for wiping their hands instead of a paper towel :confused3 is a normal thing to do won't be easy. And we have rags for cleaning up that mess on the floor or wiping your headlights .

Wow. Can’t believe they don’t have enough flu shots. Where are you located?
Hopefully, they will get more in soon! Good luck!

Try Costco or Passport Health. The later most haven’t heard about.

The general rule of thumb is to get one before Halloween.

I just got a big pack of Bounty at my BJ’s store last week. I prefer the store brand, but Bounty was all they had, and they had a lot of it. I also picked up a big pack of TP. I was lucky enough to pick up a canister of Lysol wipes at the grocery. They had a limit of one, and only had maybe 20, but it’s the first time I have seen them since March. So now I have two unopened and one about half used. I have seen a lot of random shortages throughout the pandemic, but we have done OK because the stores are limiting purchase quantities. Even then, I have the freezers in both fridges full, and my dining room table is a supplementary pantry holding extra food. My goal is to not shop now until December.

In Ontario. Government just hasn't bought enough. Not like they didn't know about the pandemic. They just figured most people don't get it, so they couldn't imagine why people would get it this year. Either that, or there's a supply shortage, which wouldn't surprise me, either, since I've heard a lot of the flu shot makers are tied up with potential covid shot production.

On another thread about flu shots, a number of people who said they normally don't get a flu shot, will get one this year. Or people who get the shot, instead of getting in Nov, they were getting in Sept.

I think it's more likely Canada, or specific provinces, didn't order enough.

Specifically in Ontario this article, https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ontario-flu-shot-35-per-cent-third-population-order-1.5773079 ,says they only ordered enough for 35% of the population. Many countries around the world were ordering more than previous years anticipating more people getting it. Some countries opted to not order more but the same as the year prior (especially if they had a large enough amount left over unused last year), some ordered less.

Looks like in Ontario they ordered more than last year (700K more) but fell short of anticipating the demand (or more like fell short of anticipating more people getting it at their urging).

If you're interested for the U.S. through the week of 10/30 (starting the week of 8/14) the U.S. has administered 172.3 million total doses. That's on the link down below. It says for the U.S. it's anticipated to distribute 194-198 million doses (subject to change as the season goes).
