Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Well, if DL doesn’t reopen until March, at least we’re more than halfway through this nightmare. I always say to friends that as things stand, I’m simply happy to be healthy, fed and solvent. Yes, I hate the isolation but I know that I’m not alone in that. And at least I still have DTD.

I’ll end this post on an upbeat note. As many of you know, about a month ago I took a trip to NYC (my favorite city in the world) and then stopped at home in Chicago for nearly a week. My mom still lives in the house where I grew up (from the age of 12) and I always love to go back there and see the places I frequented as a child. Here’s a pic of the school I attended for 4th - 6th grade. My mom and I brought a small lunch and ate it on the basketball court. It was the first time I’d had a sandwich (or anything, really) on that property since the sixth grade. It was a nice way to honor the memory.

I'm just excited to experience a less crowded/empty DL and DCA. I can't wait to ride everything over and over again with little to no lines!!! I'll wait however long I have to. This closure won't last forever (though it may feel like it), so I'm excited for when it does open!!

Yeah, there is some reason for optimism for 2021 anyway. Initial batches of vaccines may be available by the end of the year probably health care workers and high risk groups will get it first. Dr. Fauci said in an interview that his best guess is that the general public will be able to get the vaccine in April.

Edit to add: Also, initial Pfizer vaccine data shows ~90% efficacy, which is quite good and much better than expected. Other vaccines target the same protein, so hopefully they will be quite effective also.

Some updates from the City of Anaheim, first from yesterday:

From today:

This is reflecting a nationwide surge in cases and deaths too (see article from today's Boston Globe: https://www.boston.com/news/nationa...ng-coronavirus-deaths-are-climbing-once-again). Please continue to do your parts in choosing safer activities and preventing spread!

Anyone knows what this means for DTD and the BVS opening in DCA if Orange County moves back into purple tier next week, as the City of Anaheim is stating is possible?

I don't know what it means for BVS, but DTD was open before when OC was in the purple/lower tier -- they had lower capacity for crowds and no indoor dining. And they did fine -- limited, but fine. If OC moves to purple, things may get a bit complicated with TS dining reservations. But things will eventually work out.

It should still be open. TS will have to move outside only. The stores will have to decrease their capacity. I wonder if this will increase the lines to get in?

I called the AP line on Friday about our recently expired (11/11) Flexpass refund. I was told that passes with expirations through 10/31 were being processed now. They could not give me a date for our refund but said it could be by the end of November but no guarantee.

The only major difference in purple tier is the lack of indoor dining. However, BVSs eateries will all be outdoors regardless.

Purple does also limit retail capacities by shuttering "non essential retail" although not sure how much that is enforced because in LA county, there is a ton of non essential retail open right now. I think the restrictions mostly apply to indoor malls.

DTD and BVS should not be too affected by a slide back into purple. OC has only had 5 consecutive days with Purple tier numbers, so we need another 9 before we are in danger of moving back, unless the CADPH enacts their "emergency brake" system that allows them to order shutdowns independent of the color tier system.

Honestly, things in OC are not THAT dire yet.

Non essential retail can be open in purple. And so can indoor malls, I think the capacity is just set to 25%, and in red it’s 50%. So I think for retail at DTD the stores will have reduced capacity

I am guessing Disney planned the opening of BVS with the expectation that OC may have to go back to the Purple Tier. Most, if not all, the activities for the planned BVS reopening & DTD will still be allowed (with modifications) when/if OC goes back to the Purple Tier.

What's also interesting is that as of a few days ago, now my DL tickets don't show up in the app. However, when I try to link them again, the app says that the tickets are already linked. So they're still there...they just aren't showing up. The two 1-day parking tickets I bought at the end of January show up on the app. Those now show an expiration date of January 2022, whereas last week, they had an expiration date of January 2021.

Also, when I called DL Ticketing about a week ago and I asked them if they were going to extend the expiration dates of tickets like mine (which are regular multi-day tickets, NOT special So Cal Resident multi-day tickets), I was told that they didn't have any information about that yet, to keep looking on the Disneyland website for more information, etc., etc.

I have 5-day park hoppers that I bought in January. They came off my app months ago. I tried to scan again and it says tickets are already linked. I'm grateful for the extension to January 2022, though! Crossing fingers for healthier times ahead!

Pretty much all of California (94%) is going to purple. So not a shutdown, but only outdoor activities with low capacity. Includes Orange County. DTD should still operate but not indoor dining.

Just caught that there was a press conference today. Looks like almost all counties changed. San Francisco went from yellow back down to red (so skipped orange going backwards). Definitely not good all around. According to the state website, cases per 100K is 10.8 and positivity rate at 4.8% and health equity at 5.5%.

One other thing the press conference touched on: potential curfew. They did say they haven’t made any decisions yet and are reviewing efficacy from places that have a curfew (other countries or states). Something to watch out for.
