I love credit cards so much! v4.0 - 2021 (see first page for add'l details)

Good point about the End Game! I hadn't even considered that. I could continue to put spend on either card; using the 2% everywhere or 4x on Restaurants/Gas/Technology (but already have competing cards with mostly the same benefits without AFs).

I figured I could easily put continuing spend on either card, and just cancel when I got tired of the AF, but by the tone of your response it sounds like canceling an Amex would anger them (even it was a couple years later), putting me in the infamous pop up jail?

That's exactly what I first looked at! Then I thought I'd rather have 750 URs (or MRs) than $750, but now it's moving toward the top of my list again (in light of SFF's comments above).

Thanks folks and still open to more comments!

Chase biz apps with the real estate category still seems iffy. You might have to recon it (and hope that works). Or maybe you have another business you can apply under.

My DD is driving me crazy. Tonight she finally decided to apply...for a Sapphire preferred. Instant approval. I want her to try for a MDD tomorrow, but she's refusing to call recon if anything goes wrong. We will see....

Yeah, good point! I could use my wife's EIN, but figured I'd try to keep that open for her (and too hard to remember who used what).

Maybe try for a Chase Biz (CIC or CIU) under Rental biz, recon if necessary, then fall back on Amex if all fails?

PS. I'm constantly amazed at how much brainstorming with the folks here helps define a good path!

You could apply as a SP using just your SS number...if you’ve ever sold on eBay etc...I’ve has success applying under that catagory

I also have the Hilton Aspire that I am leaning toward downgrading to the no-fee Hilton card (I already got the SUB for it, so I would be downgrading in the hope of getting an offer for upgrading).

Am I correct that there are no COVID-related changes to the Aspire's benefits now? Like the $250 resort credit can only be used as a resort credit?

Also, the fee posted on January 8 so I have until February 7 to downgrade--is that correct?

Bahaha ... Thanks, but I can count on my fingers the number of things I've bought online ... and then I made my wife buy them for me.

You made me look at the list I compiled some time back about side-hustles that might qualify for biz: I made $4 at a garage sale we had this year on two pair of new hip-waders (wife and kids made the big bucks). So I could maybe use that. I have also rented DVC here, but that again is Rental biz.

I have a friend (not on here) who has successfully used rental of DVC points as a Chase Business. It falls more under the tourism side rather than actual upkeep of property which is what I imagine Chase worries about when they look at rentals as a business. You could consider that. I don't know how much they are doing it these days but you want something that you would feel comfortable talking to a rep about if you had too. I had to do that a couple years ago. I got through it and was approved but it was not the best experience. Since then Chase Business cards stress me out (probably more than they should). Amex at least could care less about the nature of the business.

As to your issue on the Amex business cards I would not get the Business Gold until you have explored the other cards that are possibilities for MR. It is not a high offer right now and it is not a long term keeper card. You would pay the AF without much benefit and the retention offers are usually nothing spectacular. If you cancelled it right at the year and don't have a huge history with Amex it could put you in the mysterious pop up algorithm..

A few questions related to Hyatt and would appreciate feedback. I've received my new Hyatt card (finally!) and am prepping for a stay. I'm rethinking using cash and will transfer some UR from my CSP to only stay on points. I am a new cardmember so I earned the 10 nights for 2021 and will meet my first MSR for the first 25,000 bonus before the end of January.

1) Can someone check my thought process here to make sure I'm accurate?
Transfer 35,000 = 7 nights
Earn 25% back in points promo = 8,750 = 1 night
Earn 25,000 in SUB points= 5 nights (use only 2 of these during double night promo prior to 2/28)
10 nights needed for Globalist = 26,250 net cost for me in points

Is it reasonable to expect that I'll get the 25% back in points from my January stay to use in February?
Is it reasonable to expect that the 25,000 bonus points will be deposited in time for me to use in February?

2) If my spouse will be traveling in March and staying at a Hyatt, could he benefit from my Hyatt status? *I'm going to assume no here, but just double checking especially if I end up earning Globalist in February.

Thanks in advance!

You get 2 nights for every $5000 spend, so you need 2 less nights. The SUB should post soon after your statement closes.

If it's an award stay, you can do a Guest of Honor booking and they'll get all the Globalist benefits. If it's a cash stay, I wonder if you can book in your name and just add them as a guest.

I would just book the room in your name and have DH check-in for you. DH did this recently and just said I had to take a later flight for work commitments. i also had put a note on the reservation using the app. He had no problem and got all of the perks.

Hugs to the rest of my California ppl... the cancellation of the current Disneyland AP program is a tough blow 😞
I'm not even in California... this hurts.

In other news, I am just a few dollars away from that CIC bonus... I just need the darn pending charges to POST! I have till the 18th and some of the charges have been in Pending since 1/12.

This is the only time I have not been able to easily hit an MSR... I just assumed it would cake like all the others but now I know better. Considering that this card had Christmas on it, I probably won't try for this one again.
