Would you still lock your doors when you went out if there was no risk of being broken into?

My locks all default to locked so yes. I have to remember to flip the switch so it is unlocked on house keeper days. They have the garage code but do not have a key to the door.

Yes. My home is my sanctuary and no one is admitted without my permission. Even if I wasn’t concerned about burglary or physical danger, I would want to keep nosy neighbors out.

No - We rarely lock the doors of our home - same for everyone else around here. We live in a very safe area.

Door locks and windows are an illusion of safety. All the bad guy had to do is break the glass and they are in.

We live in a very safe area with minimal crime and I always lock my doors and make sure the garage doors close before I leave and at night before bed.

When hubby was working,,yes doors were locked if I was home alone. Even if the screen door was open, I would have it locked. Now that he's home (retired), and since Covid..noone comes near here anyhow, so the back door is unlocked during the day. Front door is always locked.

yes. I have watched too many unsolved mysteries or crime docs about places where no one locks there doors because its "safe" and or a small town. Like if that somehow means others can not enter or how it is always someone you know or never would suspect. No thanks I will always lock my doors.

Grew up in a "safe" area, 1960's, my parents always locked the doors. Even locked the car doors inside the locked garage. Just what I was raised to do. I had a house key around my neck, what is often called a latchkey kid in a negative way, even though one of my parents was almost always home.

Nope - I don't lock them now. We almost never do unless we are going away for more than a day or two. It's mostly because I grew up in a very remote rural area in a house that didn't even have locks. I've just never got in the habit. Our neighbourhood is very safe and obviously we feel secure but we'd never say it's impossible for something undue to occur and I wouldn't advocate our method to anybody else.

No. I live in an apartment now, but when we were in houses I’d rarely lock the doors during the day. I’d even walk to my daughters daycare to drop her off and pick her up and leave them unlocked...and we lived in the bad part of town then.

Yes. For me locking the doors is just a good habit. I don’t even think about it. I just automatically do it. It wouldn’t matter if there was no risk. I’m still going to lock you out.

:confused3 Um, like they'd just walk in if you didn't lock them out? Sounds like a manners problem, not a security thing. As a non-door-locker, I've never once in my life had anybody (even family members) just come on in without knocking and the only home I've ever entered without knocking was my parents' (also non-door-lockers).

Yep, always locked. Criminals walk around my neighborhood "trying" front doors and car doors to find unlocked ones. It's a very well off area and burglars are looking for an easy, quick hit. There have been incidents where people have a burglar walk in and demand cash, jewelry and electronics. That is not gonna happen at my house. Cars get broken into all the time because people are dumb enough to leave leave unlocked and keep their valuables AND garage door openers in them. These are crimes of opportunity and enough people leave that opportunity wide open that it keeps happening.

Luckily we have no windows on the front of our house, our door is solid steel and our house is surrounded by a 7 foot high cinder block wall on the 3 sides that have windows. It's way too much work to scale that wall to get into my back patio area. As long as we keep our doors locked, no one is getting in.

Same - no one here locks their doors, but no one would even consider entering without knocking and either being hailed to come in or met at the door.
