To Go or Not To Go

Have a trip booked for Dec. and going regardless. After Delta variant the next one will come along so unless we sit in our bubbles for the rest of our lives the show must go on. Our entire group is vaccinated, and we'll take all precautions we can to stay well.
If vaccinated, I wouldn't have near the concerns and would practice safety precautions. But with an unvaccinated child, it's a different story. We have DLR scheduled for October and praying every day that the vaccine for under 12 comes out before our trip gets here.

I agree. Life must go on. We’ve decided not to do Disney because of the limited experience. Way too much money to spend for half the experience. In the meantime we’ve been traveling to other destinations even though my kids aren’t vaccinated (DD did have covid last year). Hopefully things at Disney are back to normal for November 2022. That’s when we are scheduled to go back.

Hugs to you, we just had to do the same with our September trip. We have rescheduled this trip three times now, but I just can not with this Delta variant surge. My kids are 6 and 8 and we are just going to have to wait until they can be vaccinated. We did offer them a consolation replacement vacation at our favorite beach house rental, which, bonus, costs about a third as much, so at least there's that, and they do understand why, but, they are a little crushed still. As am I.
We are vaccinated, but if we had unvaccinated children I wouldn’t take them. I think your making the right decision.

No way to know where anyone gets COVID unless there is a confirmed contact tracing, so hard to tell if one "gets it at Disney" as others have said. I got COVID in December 2020 wearing a mask, working from home majority of the time and one day in office where there are not many people. I have no idea where I got it! My husband and oldest daughter got it, and my youngest tested negative even though we were all quarantined together.

We just returned on Tuesday from a FL trip (2 days at Disney, which was last Friday 7/30 and Saturday 7/31, then in Miami). We have no issues. I am vaccinated and my husband is not, but both of us are fine, as well as our daughters who are also vaccinated.

Hello. I hope everyone is doing well. I’m looking for some info and others perspective.
First with out violating any HIPPA Rules, is their any information about how many positive cases are being attributed to WDW or Universla Studios? What are they these parks doing if someone is suspected of being positive?
Are there any reports of people quarantine in there rooms (onsite properties) ?
We are suppose to leave for. 20 day trip beginning on Aug. 10. (Doing Universal and WDW) my wife and I are vaccinated and have two children 8 and 10 (thank god are in good health) but of course to young to be vaccinated.
We are early risers and rope droppers, and mid day breakers. So I understand the expectations with lines and so on, but it is the risk of the children being infected and having to be quarantined for a majority of the trip.
Looking for some friendly but honest advice. Thank you.
Once again thank you everyone for your knowledge and advice. We decided to cancel and rebook till August. 2022. I just canceled all my ADR, there was about 15 of them, for good places and times. So if your looking for any ADR, check it out now.

I understood the facts of the OP, thanks. Is it not cheaper even than POP to stay off-site?

Following this thread as we're planning on going at the end of October (if US borders are open and things in Florida have vastly improved)

I have two young children who can't be vaccinated yet so if things in Florida are still bad we will postpone regardless of borders being open or not.

Who thinks this is going to improve by October? Just asking why that would even be possible given what is happening in Florida.

I have cautious hope things are better in October. It’s my understanding that in other parts of the world experiencing a Delta spike, the cases went down much quicker than the previous surges.

We are six vaccinated adults going in October, keeping an eye on things as well!

We went in May--my husband, older son and I were all fully vaxxed but my 14 year old daughter wasn't eligible yet. We felt very comfortable with the crowd levels and the protocols in place--masks indoors and out, markers to keep social distancing in queues, much lower capacity. My husband and I scheduled an anniversary long weekend for ourselves for two weeks from now and just (very sadly) cancelled. Crowd levels seem high and most of the protocols that made us comfortable in May are gone, except the masking. Even with masks, no more distancing markers and the increased capacity with crazy high case numbers in Florida made us reconsider.

Having said all that, I agree with others saying it is a personal choice for your comfort level. We also have to bring our son to college a week after we were supposed to have gone and if one of us got sick, I am not sure how we would have gotten him there so that was also a factor in our decision.

We were feeling a bit nervous leading up to this week’s WDW trip with kids too young for vaccination, but the return of masking made us feel a lot better about things. CMs have been very clear about requiring masks everywhere indoors, and a lot of guests wore them outside too. And they must be going through a million gallons of sanitizer a week. We’re heading back home today and feel pretty good about how WDW handled everything.

Also, in case it hasn’t been mentioned repeatedly over the past 15 pages, to paraphrase William Munny…. HIPAA’s got nothin to do with it.

It would be foolish to believe that there have been no covid cases associated with WDW. We’re in the same situation as you. We have a 3 generation trip, 5 adults all vaccinated, 3 kids under 12. We were supposed to go last year. We don’t go until October 31 for 6 nights. I almost changed it again a couple months ago but decided not to. I’ll admit I’m concerned about this delta variant and the kids. I left the decision up to our son and daughter-in-law and they said they’re good with going so we’re doing it. I’m hoping for lower crowds the first week of November but not sure what to really expect with the 50th celebration having started. I just read today that all Disney employees will be required to be vaccinated in the next 60 days. That’s a good start along with the mandatory masks indoors again. I think along with Disney’s precautions and our own that we will be ok. This isn’t the trip I had hoped for but we’re not getting any younger so we’re going to make the most of it.
My DH and I are in our 60's and fully vaccinated. We are going October 21-November 8th and I'm a little nervous. I'm actually more worried about coming home to my adult kids although they all have been vaccinated also you never know where you are going to pick up the virus....in the parks, getting back and forth from the parks, where you eat, at the air port...you just don't know. We are still going because as you say, we aren't getting any younger! I am going to get tested the first chance I get when I arrive back home just for my peace of mind. You all have a SAFE, HEALTHY and most of all FUN trip!

Posting this reminder again. Please stay within the DIS guidelines for Covid discussion. All post from when I posted this earlier today and on that don’t comply will get warnings and points applied.

Policy on COVID discussions

The global COVID pandemic created unprecedented restrictions, disruptions and changes to our travel, work, shopping, schooling, social interactions and so many other aspects of our lives since the beginning of 2020. We’ve all been affected, and we have been inundated with news, information, mis-information, frustrations and opinions. We’ve heard them, we’ve shared them, we’ve argued about them.

The discussions, debates and arguments about the virus, distancing and masking policies, various politicians’ statements and actions have been overwhelming and divisive. Many threads on the DISboards have been derailed or devolved into arguments due to this topic. We understand the passion, but feel that we’ve let the discussions run their course. We are sure there are better places on the WWW to learn about and debate scientific, medical and political issues. The mission of the DISboards is to be a great travel resource and a friendly community.

Now that travel is opening up again, it’s time to refocus on that mission!

From this point on, we will welcome information on COVID policies RELATED TO TRAVEL. Things like the vaccination policies issued by venues or destinations, the cleaning or distancing procedures in use, practical tips for travelers or things they might need to know that are different from location to location are all valid topics. Any official policies issued by Disney, other travel destinations, cruise lines, airlines, etc. regarding requirements for visiting parks or cruising can be shared. This information needs to be on-topic for the specific forum and thread where posted.

We will NOT welcome debate or opinion about medical, scientific, or political aspects of the pandemic. There are a few often repeated trigger items that won’t be allowed: No statistics about infection rates, no ranting about individual rights, no “face-diaper” comments, no debate about whether vaccinations or masking are effective, no discussions about which governor or politician or news personality did or said what.

In summary: COVID related discussion should be limited to actual policy and practical application, and NOT veer into opinion or debate.

We understand that you may be passionate in your opinions on this topic and want to discuss or debate them, and appreciate your understanding that there are more appropriate places than the DISboards to do that.

Thank you,
DISboards Administrators

There's no way to know. This one may slow down by then, but there could be another one. We can't really discuss the why's here, but I wouldn't count on things being better.
You can NOT go but if you DO go then you just keep on doing what you've been doing. I never stopped using my mask especially in doors, always have used sanitizer and you can just do your best with the crowds. I'm going in October and really looking forward to it even though I will be taking those precautions. I hope you make whatever decision you have to and have some fun if you decide to go! Woo Hoo!!
