Snacks in Theaters on ships?

I was wondering if Disney is still selling snacks to eat/drink during the shows and movies or if they cancelled that to have everyone wear masks during the shows and movies at all times? We are going on the Wonder out of Galveston Dec 3-7 and was curious.

Thanks!

You can have drinks, though. You just need to put your mask back on between sips.

Do they go up and down the aisles making sure people keep them on properly and at all times (including between sips)?

Our family really enjoys the holiday popcorn buckets and snacks during movies. If we are socially distanced in the theatre, why not? I don’t see the difference than mask off for dining.

We watched two movies while on the Dream Sept 24th sailing and I never saw any crew members checking if people were staying masked before taking their seats or during the movies. We sat in the back both times and it looked like everyone kept them on. No one was eating or drinking. We had pretty empty showings. The ship was basically people being trusted to follow the rules.

So you saying there’s a chance to grab a soda and popcorn then mask back up? Lol

Disney has asked people not to eat in the theaters. The difference is that in the MDRs there are many cast members there to make sure people do have their masks on when they’re walking around. I would assume that Disney does not want to patrol the theaters.

The bar is open at the concession stand but no snacks or popcorn as mentioned above. In the WDT there are CM's that keep an eye on things. We saw a CM tell a few people to put their masks back up on our Dream cruise last month.

Because Disney said so. If you can't follow the rules, then it's probably best not to go.

Anyway, the theater had very few people in it when I saw Shang-Chi in September, but everyone did wear a mask and nobody tried to smuggle snacks in. I'd imagine that if people stopped following the rules, then Disney would have cast members start looking for rule breakers like they do in the main theater. Let's not.

As COVID goes down (let’s hope no more surges), Disney will eventually relax their rules. How long that will be from now is anyones guess.

I do find it kind of ridiculous that the same company that packs people like sardines into lines for rides and on Main Street for fireworks at WDW says they have suspended Deck Parties (which are also outside) due to COVID. To me, that sounds like a cost cutting measure when you think about how they do things at WDW for events/queues outside.

I think some of it may also be that the cruise lines, including DCL, are afraid of an outbreak shutting down cruising. If someone tests positive aboard that is a much different situation than at the parks.

It's not really a cost cutting measure on the cruise as the staff are onboard and being paid. The only thing it really saves on may be some streamers, gas canisters and dry ice or pyro depending on the deck party.

Although I get it.... I. Not entirely sure why you can't have a sail away deck party but on the UK cruises this summer we had the frozen deck party. Perhaps its because that is shown twice so half the crowd, plus the people who aren't interested in seeing it.

Now, what is a cost cutting measure is things like snacks not being available in bars.

I wonder what the difference is between putting a drink in your mouth vs. a piece of popcorn? Is there science on this?

There was a snack bowl in the pub on the Dream when we sailed last month. I was actually surprised. It was a 3 sectioned dish with pretzel thins, and two other snacks. I would assume they would toss any leftovers. It was placed on the table when we sat down.

You're free to not go to the movie if you can't follow the rules. They don't need to explain every little thing to you in science based studies to get your approval to follow the rules a private company is asking you to follow.

You may do things differently, but when I have a drink in a movie theatre, I am not drinking constantly, so I would lift my mask for a moment now and then for a drink. And currently, I don't even lift my mask as I use a metal straw and just slide it under the edge of the mask. Popcorn is often eaten in a more constant manner, kernel after kernel, requiring the mask to be down for a long period of time.

I don't think PP was implying that they weren't going to follow the rules. I think it was a reasonable question and I tend to agree. It really isn't any different than being in the dining room. All shows were distanced with a row in front of you and behind you and 3 seats to either side. You are stationary the entire time. In my opinion, if they are going to tell people they have to wear masks the entire time, then increase capacity and bring back nightly shows. If you want to keep people distanced and limit the offerings, then at least allow us to have a snack or drink while we enjoy it. Particularly the movies. No one is moving around. We have all been vaccinated and/or tested negative. And if you get up or move around, you put your mask on.

That being said, we followed the rules because we understand they are being extra cautious. I am pretty cautious too but I do think there are some inconsistencies in the policies and asking a question doesn't mean you intend to break a rule.
