Full Vaccination Required Ages 5+ Starting 1/13/22

The error in your assumption is that this only EXCLUDES people. It does not. There are people waiting for vaccines and mandates before they will cruise. This move actually INCLUDES more people that previously did not feel comfortable spending their money to cruise.

Some people will cancel. Others will now book. This isn't going to have a detrimental impact. I was on one of the first Dream cruise back after they added a vaccine requirement for 12+...literally the day they announced vaccines would be required, dozens of new people booked and joined our cruise Facebook page, so excited that they can now cruise. The number of people who joined those final 2 weeks was monumentally higher than those that bowed out.
Not an assumption. Before Covid, no one was excluded from going on a cruise. Now families that are not "vaccinated" including their children are excluded. Pretty simple. I noticed you didn't state how many people were actually on the cruise you went on, just how many people joined a Facebook group. The cruise industry is dying on the vine right now. I was on a cruise in Mid October and am going on another one for Thanksgiving. The prices are the lowest I have ever paid in 25 years of cruising and they are at less than half capacity. This will not increase business.

We're arguing past each other. I will concede that Covid is making cruising more restrictive, ships are sailing at 25%-50% capacity, and that is not sustainable. I will not concede that it is vaccine mandates that are causing those low numbers. Yes my cruise was half full, but it was a higher capacity than before they announced the vaccine mandate. My anecdote about the Facebook group was to explain a data point. In the sample size of 800 people (those in the FB group) for a cruise that sailed with about 1600 people on it, many many more joined the group and said they just booked the cruise BECAUSE of the vaccine mandate, than those who left the group or posted that they were cancelling due to it.

The pandemic is causing the cruise industry harm. DCLs decision to require them for 5+ is not.

We shall see. Look for prices to increase. It is Disney.

You're right, base prices won't fall. DCL only ever goes UP in price.

But IF (and I just don't see this happening) but IF capacity falls below what they want, don't be surprised to see more FL resident and Military last minute deals. Disney knows how to hit their capacity targets.

And that sucks. Why only FL and military. I’d be on a plane last minute if I got a great deal.

Yeah, I have no idea why they limit it to those audiences. My guess is it's been enough in the past to fill the ship and so no need to open the deals up further. Also much easier for FL residents to do last minute cruises driving to the port than those that need to book last minute airfare.

Yeah, I have no idea why they limit it to those audiences.
Historically, military doesn't get paid well for the job they do. And many businesses would discount prices as a "thank you" for them doing the job.

FL discounts because, any bodies on the ship is preferable to no bodies. And FL residents could more easily make a last minute cruise being close by. They did the same thing for some Alaska cruises and Canadian discounts a few years ago.

The lack of casinos is one of the major reasons that I sail with DCL.

I wouldn't say it's a reason I sail with DCL, but it's definitely a perk. I sailed Carnival in January 2020 and hated having to walk through the smoke-filled casino. Yuck. It was not appealing to me at all.

This. Also, locals cruising and Cast offers increase when things like this are announced... currently looking at Jan 15th cruise because of this announcement! The error in the original, binary argument, does not account for Disney business or their segments to shed business that does not give them the net return Disney requires. There has been a lot of rebalancing going on during this time.

Technically, that is not true. Pregnant women are excluded from cruising after a certain gestational age. There are always going to be people who cannot go on a cruise for whatever reason. I chose to go on Celebrity because of their 100% vaccination policy for 16+ (at the time) and I would not sail on a line that did not require 100% vaccination for anyone eligible.

Cruise lines have a vested interest in not having outbreaks on board, just like they have a vested interest in not having premature (or term) babies born on board.

Just a friendly reminder - Policy on COVID related discussions

Thanks in advance for your cooperation. Please help this thread to remain open.

Yesterday, after spending a lot of time removing posts violating this policy posted in early June and pinned at the top of this forum, I posted the "friendly" reminder above.

Today, after just spending another 45 minutes issuing warnings, removing posts in violation of the same policy and removing other posts quoting the violating posts, the warning is no longer going to be friendly.

Either follow the policy linked above or this thread will need to be closed.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR COOPERATION

Our family of 5 is out for sure. I’ll keep watching the you tubers report but guessing DCL going to have to start catering more and more to adults. So disappointed as we loved our trips and have ‘loaned’ DCL a huge chunk of money since 2019 in hopes we’d be back… could have made some decent returns on that $$ too. Doh!

During the early days of the cruise restart I chose Celebrity because they required vaccinations of those eligible while Disney did not. Aside from the potential health impacts, at the time going the 95% vaccinated route allowed them to sail with masks being optional and forego social distancing and some other mitigation measures--it felt like a totally normal cruise from the before-times (except better because it was less crowded). My main hope is that this change allows Disney to fully reopen the kids clubs and generally get things closer to normal.
