‘Tiana’s Bayou Adventure’ to Open in Late 2024, Replacing Splash Mountain

Having watched the video, I can easily imagine what some parts of the ride will be, like the airboat ride through the swamp, complete with AA alligators. I look most forward to fireflies (they're my thing) and hope they are in the ride (it seems like that's a 90% certainty, especially given the art released, but you never know...). I feel like this video sets it all up really well (transforming that last scene with the AA animals singing Zip and the riverboat, etc. and making that more like the Cago (?) Square she mentioned. It seems like it's shaping up nicely (the drop is the only thing I can't readily imagine - could it be trying to escape alligators? I can't quite figure it out but trust it'll work).

I love how people say the name is too generic but seem to ignore rides past and present like: Snow White's Scary Adventure, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan's Flight, Swiss Family Treehouse, Dumbo the Flying Elephant. PeopleMover. Frankly things like "Splash" Mountain and "Space" Mountain (or Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion ... there's apparently wisdom in being really clear about what to expect and not much more, lol) are what seem wholly too generic and not indicative of the inner word play we've come to expect (and love, for some of us) from Imagineers. Luckily there are some rides where they attempt to tell the story with the name, too (it's a small world, Soarin', Rise of the Resistance) but so many seem to boil down to "[IP name] adventure/journey" (Remy's Ratatouille Adventure). My sense is that a plurality (if not outright majority) of people call attractions "The Little Mermaid ride", "The Tea Cups", or "Frozen" instead of their fuller names, anyway.

Just for my own personal irony I was on this ride enjoying it like it was the last time I was going to ride it and after we splashed down I said out loud “I hope they never change it!” And like literally right after that I found out about the news lol. Ah well. Splash is my second most nostalgic ride after spaceship earth so it stings a bit. They better not do a maelstrom bs overlay. If they’re getting rid of one of so many peoples favorite rides then make it magical Disney! Like you used to.

First Look at Tiana’s New Outfit for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Disney announced this morning that the new ride replacing Splash Mountain would be called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and open in late 2024. They have now revealed Princess Tiana’s new outfit for the ride.

This barely resembles Princess Tiana. I wouldn't have recognized the character without the headline. IS she no longer a Princess? I remember the film being based on "The Princess and the Frog". I didn't realize this had been revised.

Prince Naveen was disinherited by the time the story began and in the end they were running Tiana's restaurant. Pretty sure she is a "princess" because she married a "prince" and not because she will actively BE the princess of Maldonia with a chance at the throne. Wearing normal clothes while runnig around the bayou makes sense either way though. :)

Not only have they changed the attraction but we now need a tutorial of why the character no longer resembles the original. I'm over it... definitely been a journey They've jumped the last shark. Imo

A couple things:
1) "It won't be a mountain anymore!" Hey, remember that part of Song of the South where they climbed a mountain? Yeah, neither do I, and I've seen it.
2) How to handle the drop. I know they won't do this, but I think it would be cool if the boat is being chased by Dr. Facilier, and you get pulled to the underworld, only to be rescued at the last second by our heroes. Not going to happen, and this is why I'm no fun to go to the movies with.
3) The outfit. I agree, the best thing to wear trudging around around a Louisiana swamp is a ball gown. Just leave the glass slippers at home.
4) Doesn't fit the land. Yes, because in a land where Appalachian hillbilly bears are a few feet from a wild west mine, A cajun-country swamp will just destroy immersion.

I can't BELIEVE all of you support this "girly-fying" revamp of Splash Mountain instead of trying to speak out and save it! It’s disheartening to me. Don’t reminisce!
Curious as to how any of us could "save" Splash Mountain. None of us work for Disney Imagineering or make the decisions at the company. This retheme is happening whether people like it or not. The version in Tokyo is not changing so the ride isn't going away completely. Personally I'm fine with the retheme as long as it's still full of animatronics and not screen based.

“We” can’t save Splash Mountain, legacy characters, the parks or the Brand. TIIC are determined to burn it to the ground. Frustrating but it is reality.

I still wanna believe SM will be saved hence that Disney Parks Blog post with the words "evolving from the reimagining of Splash Mountain", because the word "evolve" is another word for "change", and they might've "changed" plans and will be an attraction completely built from scratch.

But why stop selling the merchandise if you’re just going to leave the ride open for what’ll amount to years after saying you’re going to change it. Walking through the gift shop at the end is so stupid not seeing a single Splash themed item. Either the ride is so “problematic” that you should’ve closed it immediately or within a month or two or it isn’t and keep selling what the majority of people still want to buy. Disney does this wishy washy half hearted semi hypocritical stuff all so often.

Another thing: It would be cruel for the little children if the Winnie the Pooh ride at Disneyland Anaheim were to get removed because of Tiana and a "bayou" expansion for New Orleans Square.

So so glad that we got to ride the original many times, but I am also super excited for the new version. It tears at my heart strings to know that we will lose the original but I can’t imagine a better replacement than this.

Please do us proud Disney!!

Dan
