What is the minimum and maximum you are willing to spend on a hotel room for general vacations?

Like others it depends on the circumstances. We have stayed in $50/night roach crawling motels on dive trips because they were the only place to stay and we knew we would be hanging smelly dive suits in the bathroom. We have also stayed in over $500/night hotels in Atlanta and on the beach for special occasions. I tend to like B&Bs when I'm travelling and depending on the town those can go anywhere from $200/night to $350 to $400/night.

We are picky. Won’t stay in a cheap hotel. Our last vacation was in key west in May and our rental was $1200 per night. I guess it just depends on the place - how much we really want to stay there.

If we're just passing through somewhere or going to a place out of necessity, we like to pay as little as possible. If a place doesn't look clean, safe and comfortable or gets consistently bad reviews, we'll pay a little more to get a better place.

If we're staying somewhere for several days or want a nice vacation, we'll pay as much as $300 a night. We cannot justify staying onsite at WDW, though. We spend so much time away from the room that it's not worth the prices. Even with the values, we would need two rooms for our family. For less money, we can get a much bigger townhome with bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone, plus a washer/dryer and full kitchen.

$100-400. It really depends on where the hotel is located. In Branson, MO, you can get a really nice room for around $150, but I would never try that in say a beach town.

I don't have a set minimum, but its petty rare to find a decent/clean place for under $100 anymore.
I have only rarely gone over $200 a night. The most expensive would have been Universal (I think it was around $300-350/night. But we used rewards to cover that in full.)

We are going to Arizona this fall to visit our son. We did pay a little over $200/night for 3 nights to get a nice house with a decked out yard and private pool. Worth every penny for the privacy and amenities.

It really depends on location, season, purpose of the trip, etc.

In general, my high limit is $500, but prefer it to be about $300.

On the other end, I’m not sure I’d trust a place under $100, even for one night just to crash. Cooties or worse.

Max is $300. I paid $275/night for my favorite hotel in Paris this spring and that felt like a huge splurge. I really prefer under $200.

I don't like chain hotels, though we'll stay at them when overnighting somewhere (generally under $150). We've been able to find cool independently owned places for well under $200 pretty much everywhere we've gone. They tend to be older and lack amenities, but we don't use pools and hot tubs and fitness centers anyway. We always check reviews and pick places that are clean and well-kept (bonus points if they're haunted!). Or we'll rent a condo for a week through the Armed Forces Vacation Club, which runs $349 for the week. Or we'll stay in a hostel. We'll take cool, fun ambience over "luxury" any day of the week.

This is us exactly! We like "interesting" hotels and that's never a Westin, Holiday Inn or La Quinta, regardless of the nightly rate. We do want to spend as little as possible for a nice place, which usually means tons of research before I book. $200 is the limit I like to stay under but it's not always possible, depending on the destination. We've stayed in some lovely places in cities like Paris, San Juan and Honolulu for what we considered to be fantastic rates. Total cost of the trip is always the main factor so sometimes we do pay more than we prefer for a room, or change plans entirely if a destination just ends up being unaffordable. The most expensive room we've ever stayed in was $400+/night for AKL Savannah View and that was back in the day.

Disney vacation: DVC points
General vacation: less than 200
Business vacation: as cheap as possible

Well we take two kinds of trips these days....to Europe and a beach resort type vacation. For really nice beach resort with incredible service we're willing to spend $1,000-$1,200 a night, but that's only in the last 5-6 years or so since our income increased. And on that kind of trip the room/view/service is paramount. And other than food and spa, you don't do much spending. At least we don't....we're not big on excursions for that kind of vacation. For europe....I'd say we average $400-$700....with most of the trip in quality 3 start boutique-type hotels...possibly ending the trip at a 4 star which is more of a relaxing/view type town like say Positano. In our early travel years in Europe we tried a couple of 2 star hotels in the $200-ish range and we weren't pleased. On our trips to Europe we spend a lot more on guides, excursions...etc.

What is the minimum and maximum you are willing to spend on a hotel room for general vacations? So non Disney/Universal big type vacations. Thanks.
It's been fun to read all the responses on here. There are so many factors that come into play. We've paid anywhere from $200-$550/nt for most resorts/hotels, with the majority probably falling closer to $250/nt. We do some chain hotels and some airbnb/vrbo stays. We have stayed in pricer hotels (with discounts) and we've also stayed in pretty average hotels. My only real concerns are location, cleanliness and space. We've stayed in some upscale boutique hotels that had great service and some that were no different than a Hampton Inn and the same for the national chains, some have been wonderful and some look like a housekeeper was never employed there. If we're out and about for most of our trip and not in the room much, it makes zero sense to spend a lot on a room so more times than not, we are closer to $200-$250/nt. I'd rather spend the money on experiences, attractions, etc than a place to sleep/shower.

So this is kind of a switch up, but we haven't stayed in a hotel in years. March 2014 to be exact. We decided to buy a motorhome and never looked back. We enjoy the travel and scenery as we go and it's especially nice taking your "home" with you. How much? There's a lot to factor in like fuel and travel time, but we have paid $25 a night up to $175 a night depending on if it's a simple campground or a "resort" with a lot of amenities.

It depends. If we are on a road trip and need just a place for one night, I try not to spend over $200 and am fine with any old "right off the highway exit" type place.

If we will be somewhere for more than 3 nights, we tend to choose higher end hotels, and I'd say we would pay up yo about $600/night.

If it's a RESORT vacation like Hawaii or something, $1000-1200/night.

We lived in an RV for a decade. Really nice lifestyle, and I'm so happy we got to do it. Planted back in sticks and bricks now, but there are some things I miss.
