SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Information & Questions

I certainly hope they would, but not holding my breath. The other issue for early rope droppers is that generally they don't start their transportation as early as the Disney buses so you're going to be behind the first bus runs of the morning.
Guessing rope drop is going to be a huge pain. DHS especially since that park is a mess on a good day getting there early without SOG buses dropping there after AK.

I wonder what MK will be like? (Can't remember the last time I did SOG buses/TTC to MK for rope drop.)

I think/hope the buses are getting better though. Last trip in September I found getting to TTC/Epcot monorail got me there in time with the early entry (I amazingly got BG 2 for Guardians and jumped down to the bus stop ASAP while DD followed later). Got to the park and scooted over to the ride.

Weirdly, I was the only person in the preshow and the ride. I think I saw someone get off the coaster part and go up the stairs after the ride was over, but not sure. I must have been one of the first people on that day, even with SOG bus.

has anyone used the spa at shades? I think I might want to surprise my hubby with a couples massage.

My sister did last year while we were there. I really wanted to just due to the really good price. but couldn't fit it in to our schedule. She said it was nice.

Is anyone else seeing the calendar completely booked through February?
Yes, I just took a look, and it's all blocked out. This happened a few months ago too and it lasted a while, although I don't know why?

Edited to add: I don't think it's because there are no rooms available. We booked a second room for our June trip for the rest of our travel party and this was about a week ago. Except for a few days in June, summer and a few months beyond was wide open.

I was able to book an August trip a few days ago, but trying to (potentially) shift it, and the calendar is bananas!

I just wrote WDW an email to express my thoughts about the removal of the walking path. In case anyone else wanted to also, I thought I'd post WDW's guest relations email address.

Hopefully, it opens soon! I'm glad you were able to get your reservation in before it blocked out.

HS is what makes me nervous. They say they will have extra busses going to TTC, but nothing about extra going to HS and AK. Do they not realize how many of their guests were walking to the Polly to use Disney busses to HS and AK?
That's a good point. I hope SOG considers this.

I think what also bugs me is that if WDW were going to do construction over at Swan/Dolphin, would they really cut off access for those guests to walk to the parks or to access Disney transportation at Epcot area resorts? (I've never stayed at either Marriott hotel, but have read online that people often use WDW transportation.) It seems since SOG is on Disney property, they'd put a safe option out there for SOG guests to use to get around Disney property.

Might be worth positing here in case folks aren't on Facebook- shades has a big shut down of their computer systems that caused them a lot of issues and I believe they couldn't process ticket requests for several days. I think they were already running about 2 weeks to hear back from them to buy tickets. I submitted request on April 1.. so we shall see how long it takes to hear back. We go late June.

Thanks for sharing! That stinks about the computer issues, hope you hear back soon so you can get everything set.

@BigBlueWho Open dates on the calendar are back!
Thank you! I was able to check December dates.
Debating annual passes but will probably pass. Going back to our conversations last year, we had to postpone our Halloween trip. We had a death in the family and couldn’t go, so we had to push to this year.
We are debating a cruise and dates this summer, and would be doing SoG on the back end.

I think my opinion on this is going to be unpopular- for the record, my husband is retired from the military, as well as 100%VA disabled- visibly, and invisibly- so many reactions I'm seeing to this ( not necessarily here, mostly the Facebook page) just scream entitlement, and that just rubs me the wrong way. We are not entitled to anything, and although I do understand being disappointed with the change, blaming Disney and lashing out is probably not the direction to go, maybe look at SOG to improve their systems.

In reality, SOG amenities belong to the guests at SOG. ESPECIALLY at SOG, there is no worrying about others coming from other areas to access them. The Polynesian guests don't have that luxury, because, as evidence here, it seems like many people from SOG are having there to ride buses, monorails or whatever. I have to wonder how much shorter the lines will be in the early morning for those guests, without all of us adding to the lines.

I guess my point is, Shades of Green is a great resort, but the amenities are those the government puts there, Disney resort amenities are those that Disney puts there, and they are different. If you want Disney resort amenities, stay at Disney's resorts. That is really the only way to be guaranteed the things that you want in a resort.

So to get to Ohana now, you take the bus to the TTC, then walk to the poly?
Yes.

Just a note: I submitted my ticket request through shade son April 1st and got a call back today. Two week wait. Glad to have my tickets purchased and saved $100 a ticket compared to Disney prices!

I’ve got a question that was alluded to a few pages back. If a retired military member bought salute tickets for my family (3 of us) from shades of green directly that were already activated when delivered, is there anything preventing us from using them even though we wouldn’t be traveling with the retired member? As an aside, my spouse is also eligible to purchase tickets/stay at shades of green, but not eligible for the salute tickets. We are traveling there in August.

Thanks!
There is nothing stopping you technically, but any cast member can ask to see the qualifying member or spouse ID when you go to scan into a park. I've only ever had it happen once at MK during morning rope drop, but I always take my ID card just incase.

It’s been several years (9-ish) since I stayed at SoG so I’m sorry if these are dumb questions. I’m eligible again as a veteran with service-connected disabilities.

1) I booked a room, received a confirmation number, deposit came out of my account- but I never received a confirmation email. Is that normal?
2) I can’t link the reservation in MDE. Does it take some time for that to populate?
3) At registration, the only paperwork I need is my Veteran Health ID card, right?
4) I Can use the AAFES, but can’t buy alcohol there, right?
5) Can I book dining at 60+10?

Whew I think that’s it for now!
