I'm a little disappointed in the cost cutting done at Cabana's

This thread just makes me want to avoid cabanas. I’ll get my lunch at a MDR if it’s open on Embarkation day.

Cabanas is always crazy on embarkation day. So MDR might be a good idea. That being said, as somebody who was on the Dream in March, I don’t actually agree that there has been this noticeable shift.

They still have donuts they’re just not store-bought Krispy Kreme doughnuts, which actually seems like an improvement in my opinion.

The pirate night buffet was going to be cut even before Covid happened. It was a giant problem. You can talk to the CM‘s about it.

I personally like the crab legs that they are using right now. They seem to use whatever they can get the most of at a certain time and they change them out at different points in the year.

I had no issues with the salad station. It was fine as always.

As to other points- I was offered pastries at MDR breakfast. In fact at Cabanas one morning a CM was carrying trays of juice and offering them as they passed.

The hand wringing over slight or perceived changes gets to be a lot here sometimes.

We've done 6 cruises post covid and the ships have had a varying selection of crab legs or claws everyday, So that probably varies based on the local supply at the time they order. There have been several articles about the crab industry having a shortage of one type and an over abundance of another.

I blame the Krispy Kreme dilemma on KK. They have closed numerous stores and plan on or did close 14 more in 2023. They also are now supposedly supplying some McDonald's locations. I know that several grocery stores we frequent in IL and FL either no longer have them or they are just returning. We found the donuts better on the WISH than what was on the DREAM, FANTASY or WONDER. Do I want KK back? Absolutely!

Never did go to the Pirate Buffet and I have also heard too much wasted food as well as the crew shortage were contributing factors.

Overall we've not been disappointed with Cabana's or Marceline, but as with any food thread it's all very subjective.

Ah. They should have no problem getting Jonah crabs there unless there's some kind of shortage lately.
That is actually one of the cheaper crab legs to buy. So they "weren't there" due to cost cutting.

The relatively large claws can be an affordable substitute for stone crab claws, with cooked Jonah ones selling for about half the price

But the original post said that they had a cheaper crab leg. So what's even cheaper?

Our experience on the Wonder in February was Dungeness which is way more expensive.
Well, that surely isn't because of cost cutting, then. But maybe there's something more convenient on the west coast.

I am so disappointed in the removal of Krispy Kreme donuts!!!
I am constantly amazed at how many DIS members love those previously frozen Krispy Kreme donuts! With the amazing bakery they have on board, why that over fresh baked?
Of course, I live in an area of the country where Krispy Kreme was late coming to, early 2000's.......and most closed because they just didn't measure up to the mom and pop donut shops they liked to place their stores near.

Agreed , a packaged KK is definitely not a premium donut

That would be wonderful too, if they made donuts on board. However most donuts are usually fried, not baked, which requires a special machine.

If they offered fresh baked that would be great, but unfortunately they don't. Now what they offer tastes like pre packaged doughnuts you'd find at a gas station

They fry lots of other stuff. They could fry donuts.
Not saying they couldn't, but it's a special machine that only makes donuts it's not a deep fryer, It would be this, probably on a larger scale. Unlike the deep fryers that can be used for chicken, fries, fish etc.
