Best electrolyte powder for a summer visit?

In the past we sed Gatorade packs.

But with a Starbuck's in each park, those Refreshers really are refreshing - has sodium, sugar and caffeine. So we mostly just carry water in a Yeti packed with ice so you can hydrate and cool off, and know the places where you can refill them. But hot or cold we usually do Starbuck most afternoons.

I use a generic liquid IV individual powder packs. I just dump one in my water bottle in the morning before I leave and keep refilling the bottle as I go. I don't add any more during the day but I add more water before my bottle is empty. I agree with testing it at home. I tried Pedialyte at home and it actually made me sick because it was too salty.

I think pedialyte is meant for if you’re already on the pretty dehydrated, it makes sense that it might be too much under more normal circumstances. I can’t even drink regular bottled Gatorade unless I’ve been exercising.

I always bring liquid IV now. Helps with any hangovers too (I’m looking at you Epcot) and if anyone gets any GI issues (so wish I would have brought it when I had food poisoning a few years back)

DH has issues staying hydrated on regular days. He does Propel, Gatorade, and Liquid IV. The Liquid IV acai berry is his favorite.
I don't really like any of them, but if I had to pick it would be Gatorade. I've tried the Lyte drops mentioned upthread too....I couldn't get over the slimy texture it added to the water.
I would absolutely try some before arriving at the parks. You'll likely have a preference, but some of them are an acquired taste.

I haven't used the Lyte Show drops in a while... I forgot about the texture. They do have kind of an odd quality. Before I discovered the Propel powder packets I would use the Lyte Show drops and offset the weirdness with a few drops of Mio or Crystal Light liquid, which worked pretty well. But it's just one more thing to have to carry around.

ETA: Mio did used to make a Mio Sport version of their drops that included electrolytes that I really liked, but I also prefer a stronger flavor to cover up the flavor of Florida water. I don't know if they're still available, though.

It's also a liquid, which means subject to TSA regs. It might be worth adding to our grocery pick up order if I can find a flavor my kids like though.

The Mio Sport bottles are under the 3 oz TSA limit. When I've brought them in a carry-on I've just tossed them in my toiletry bag until I get through the TSA checkpoint.

Coconut water is a good natural electrolyte replacer, too. I've had some really good powdered coconut water packets in the past (Kroger brand, unfortunately, they're no longer available). I really preferred it to Propel and Gatorade Zero packets for both potassium amounts and taste. I think I might try taking some bulk powder our next trip, and making single-servings to carry with me.

One thing I always do at Disney is start chugging water in the hotel room before we even hit the parks.

I try and get 40-80ozs in before heading out/while waiting for the bus. Then I get 2 ice waters per person each time we stop for water.

I have a zip lock bag of Gatorade packets about to expire from our 2022 July/August trip I found today cleaning the pantry! Whatever you land on try it at home first and don't spend too much money!

I know it would be doable, but I try to limit my liquids anyway. I like to prioritize sunscreen and hair care stuff for my curly girl plus some other things. Maybe once the kids are older and can handle their own quart sized bag. We're not quite there yet. They're still working on "go stand over there and wait for mommy."

When we traveled last year, I had two quart bags and it was annoying. Then the baby got flagged and I had to present an electronic device that was "his." I was like "he's 2, he owns nothing." They didn't care. They had to "check" something.

I have Global Entry, but it didn't get put on my boarding pass last year.

Oh see, I usually check a bag and put that kind of stuff (hair care, sunscreen, etc.) in the checked back just so I don't have to deal with it in my carry on.

I agree with testing beforehand, as everyone's taste buds are different. We made that mistake on our WDW trip last Fall. I ended up throwing away the lemon-lime-flavored MIO. None of us liked it.

Adult faves are Liquid IV and Great Value (Walmart brand) Hydration in Fruit Punch, made with stevia. Kids loved the Gatorade Zero Sugar Orange, made with sucralose.

Also, we purchased resort refillable mugs. They had blue Powerade on most dispensers and many flavor choices on the Freestyle machines. We couldn't refill these in the parks but would fill them before we left the resort.

I second the pickles and pickle juice from the jar if you have any grocery deliveries ordered.

I've mostly used Nuun, Hydralyte, Clif Shot Bloks and Jelly Belly Sport Beans. I'm partial to the Nuun with caffeine because caffeine particularly in the early morning. Don't know that I'd be giving these to kids under 12 yrs and would opt for packing powder Gatorade for littles. Plus the pickles if you can get them. Wear a hat, drink lots of plain water, put some salt on your fries and cut through the gift shops to soak up some AC. Slow down the pace and get lots of pool time.

Salt is my favorite electrolyte. And lots of plain water afterwards. Never an issue to find plenty of salty foods at WDW.

I have a little anxiety from traveling lately. Airline losing stuff. Planes getting redirected. Sleeping in an airport overnight.
So, I like keeping the "necessities" on me. But, I could probably throw Mio in my checked back for our trip in December. Hopefully, we'll be flying Southwest nonstop both ways.

I had no idea powdered coconut water packets even existed, that's a good recommendation!
