I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

I'm planning on booking flights to Japan today! Going to book premium economy on United through Chase. Doing multi-city so we can fly into Tokyo and out of Osaka. Was going to fly out of Dulles but it's actually cheaper to fly out of Richmond to Dulles. Starting to plan this has been a much needed distraction from major work, school, and family stress.
delta had a flash sale i think it ends today 60k a pop edit wont help you if all you have is UR though

Lol. I'm in the same boat. Water heater was just replaced. Then my range died (well the bake element started sparking and it was 16 years old so I figured I would replace it). New range from Costco is great (basic GE) but the control panel buzzes. Icemaker in the fridge stopped working. The fridge needs to be replaced, but it fits into a cabinet that I think they made 1" too short so I'm really limited. I'm pretty sure the dishwasher will go soon (2007 Bosch). And the AC (one unit for a two-story 2,200 square foot house) will also likely die soon.
I hear ya! All of our kitchen appliances are 16 years old (the stovetop is a 1968 original I think) and the cabinets/openings are all sizes that are no longer standard. When we got these 16 years ago the choices were A or B, now I feel like there would be no choices. I keep crossing my fingers that they can hold on for another year or so. I'm planning on a kitchen remodel and will likely get new then.

Ridiculous.

I would consider putting a few cameras in the living areas and mentioning them to the next sitter. Even if they aren’t functioning their presence might encourage the next sitter to at least be in the same room as your child.
We need sitters/nannies throughout the year (especially over summer and school breaks) so I use an agency to help do all the background checks. I've never had this happen before. I wrote a pretty scathing note this morning to the agency that I will never use them again. I've had high school students more responsible! Unfortunately my ivory/beige granite is now stained with large patches of blue/green. I'll research and buy more cleaning stuff this weekend in the hopes of finding something that'll work but right now, I want to cry every time I look at it. :(

If anyone has any suggestions on what might work, please let me know. I'm willing to try anything! There's no way we're doing a remodel in the next 10 years so I'm going to have to live with this.

Holy smokes an agency sitter! Being a Californian I am admittedly litigious by nature and would already be consulting with a lawyer friend for action against the agency and babysitter. Obviously I hope you get it out but goodness freaking gracious. I’m glad your kid is ok and that’s all that happened!

Not knowing what you've tried and some of these are old school and I don't know what any would do to the surface so proceed with caution.

Magic eraser but for this prob not. Also guessing if it wasn't sealed and its porous you may be out of luck.

Lighter fluid? Crazy but it will get sticky stuff off and is often our last resort cleaner. I'm working on cleaning some sandals with it now. I needed to get the stickiness off from old moleskin and it cleaned the area as well.

Baking soda, dawn and a bit of vinegar. I don't remember the ratio, I'd found it on google for I think removing fabric bleed from whites.

Also Google something like remove granite stain better homes and garden. They have a lot of good tips.

Eta not bh&g but good housekeeping. Remembered the wrong one 1st.

I thought about this for a few minutes, and I’m normally not a litigious person, but I might be investigating what type of responsibility the agency has in property damage. Granted it wasn’t the sitter who did the damage, but she was the responsible party. I would assume because the agency vets these people, they have to take some responsibility for their actions, or negligence in this situation. I mean this is potentially thousands of dollars in damages. Just because it’s your countertop is irrelevant IMO. What if this was carpeting or other flooring, a destroyed appliance or home electronic? Would you have any recourse, or did you have to sign a waiver releasing them from responsibility for property damage? Not suggesting you should go to these lengths, but it has me genuinely curious about the degree of responsibility on the agency’s part.

Just back from a trip and wanted to add that I used Fidelity bonus funds for grabbing international cash from an ATM. We had signed up for Fidelity Cash Management accounts when they were offering a $150 bonus for depositing $50. I think the current offer is a $100 bonus. It was super easy for us because we already had accounts with Fidelity.

Anyways, what I really like is that they reimburse ATM fees. I think this will be my go-to now for getting international funds at ATMs while traveling.

Use this as a chance to switch to a password manager (google the password manager of your choice first to make sure it doesn’t have a getting hacked history like LastPass) and use randomly generated passwords for every account. I made the switch (chose Bitwarden) a couple years ago, best thing I ever did for online security. Accounts will continue to be compromised more and more in the future, so be ready.

I use Bitwarden also, having been doing so for a few years. One of the best things I ever did period, regardless of online security. So nice never to have to struggle signing in to things. And the app lets you auto populate sign-in info onto websites or other apps. It's great and free. Liked it so much, I sent them money to support them, lol.
I absolutely should. Does Bitwarden allow it to be used on multiple devices? Like I usually use an iPad, but sometimes phone or laptop. And the big question, how much $$?

Card related because I'd use a card to pay for it...

We are considering purchasing a week (an additional week...we have one already around spring break) at our timeshare condo in Carlsbad (CA). We are looking at the week that would, most years, include Christmas Day.

We are in Phoenix so it's an easy drive- there is no concern about flights or anything.

Do any of you regularly travel over Christmas, or do you have any thoughts about being gone, every year, around that time?

For reference we only have one child (16) left at home, and Christmas isn't huge in our family other than we try to have Christmas dinner with the kids and grandparents every year (either on the day itself or the day before/after depending on what my "kid" schedule is with my boys' dad).

I know I love the location and we are definitely interested in a second week each year, but I'm worried that I'd regret getting that specific week.
We try to avoid travel over Christmas. My family gets together Christmas Eve for dinner and again in the morning to exchange gifts and have breakfast together every year. It's an important holiday for us as far as being together and important to me. With that said, I would still book something over Christmas if I had no other options like a Christmas Markets cruise which I plan on doing at some point. But that would be the exception rather than the rule. When I do travel at that time of year, I try to make my outbound flight Christmas evening so I can still enjoy the time with my family. If it isn't a big deal for you then go for it and create beautiful memories. :flower3:

Is it unlimited reimbursement or is there a limit?

I would contact a granite place and perhaps the surface can be refinished/sanded whatever they do to get it smooth and shiny and then resealed. There may be higher end places in your area. From experience with my granite I know that it is porous but mine is almost black with white patterning throughout and it still gets grease stains. I've used heat to remove those.

I use it on my laptop and iPhone. I pay $10/yr for the upgraded feature of emergency access (so a trusted contact can have emergency access to it in case anything happens to me).

ETA: link to tiers

So you and your DH use the same account? Do you have the family account or just the free version?
We just share one account. All our finances are combined so for if it's no problem having access to each others' passwords and such. So all of our stuff is in a single place and we can both access it. You can store CCs on Bitwarden, too, and that's so useful for when I need to use up Biz plat credits and split payments, chat to get him a retention offer, etc. Don't need to have his card physically with me since that info is saved on Bitwarden.

ETA: forgot the second question. We have the free version. There's no ads or anything like that. But now I'm thinking for doing the $10 yearly to support the developers more and I guess the emergency access is good to have.

nice does it have a cap? been wanting to start a swab account because of this and Amex platinum fee waiver.

my ktichen appliances were replaced when we remodeled in 2016, so I hope those are good, but the newer they are, the crappier they are I hear LOL
sad but true- we remodeled about 11 years ago with all new stuff, so far have replaced the fridge, stove, and on our 3rd dishwasher! Yikes now now that I wrote that I realized how junky this stuff has been! And I don't really love my newish stove, it was hastily replaced last year the day before big family dinner and I just bought whatever was available that I could afford asap.... prob a bad idea to do that:rotfl2:

Why? Schwab has Unlimited atm fee rebates & no foreign transaction fees. Looks like Fidelity charges a 1% foreign transaction fee that is wrapped into the transaction.

The ancient stuff lives forever! There is an old fridge from my grandparents in my parents garage in the mountains still humming along- even after a bear broke into the garage and shook the crap out of the entire thing to pull off years of ice that had sealed the freezer portion inside of it shut. (Poor thing, all that work and the only thing in there was a box of flour and some ice sheets. My mother was happy though, saved her from having to de—ice it 😆)
