Marathon Weekend 2024

Just a quick glance at the website...can runners do both the 5K and Half? Or just one of them?

Looks like a nice race. I live in PA and might have to keep that half on my radar for the future.
Right now just one but I read somewhere on the site they are exploring the possibility of both for future races.

I ran it last year and really enjoyed it. Course is mostly flat, ends at the art museum so it does have the hill up Kelly Dr at the end. About 5ish miles through the city and then an out and back on Kelly drive.

Yes, select below 4:30 so that you can enter your results. It really doesn’t matter what your actual time will be. The 2:06 will get you into a POT corral. You can always start from the back of B if you feel like you’re in the wrong spot.
Your name shouldn’t be an issue but you should bring a screenshot of your POT entry and the race results to the expo just in case.
Thank you! I was excited to be able to enter it for the first time!

SAFD: My only "A" race for the fall is the Marshall University Marathon in West Virginia, where I hope to get a BQ to run Boston in 2025 with a running buddy. Also, that'll count as my marathon for West Virginia (going for a sub-4 marathon in every state). I've got Philadelphia two weeks after that, with the only goal being sub-4, so I'm hoping I'll be sufficiently recovered from Marshall to be able to pull that off. As long as the weather's decent in Philly, I should be OK. Still hoping to add a marathon in December, but I need to see what my schedule's going to be like that month.

I'm also spectating/cheering at Marine Corps this year, since my son is running it with a group from the Naval Academy. It'll be fun to be on the sidelines for a change, cheering on all you MCM runners!

SAFD: I'm doing Berlin marathon in September. This will be my 3rd of the 6 majors. Hoping to eventually get the Abbott medal. Training started really badly (mostly because of the heat) but today's long run went better than expected. Two more long training runs left.
That's awesome! Good luck with your training and the race.

Great job! A sub-4 marathon is awesome, and 50 of them are amazing. How close are you to 50? What states do you have left?

SAFD: I don't have any "A" races per se, but I am running all three races at W&D this year and I am also running the "weekend series" (10K + half) at the Dallas BMW Marathon weekend in December. But, I'm treating both race weekends as training for Dopey and not planning to "race" any of them.

Super excited for MW medal reveal today!

SAFD: I had Chicago and NYC on the deck this Fall.

Unfortunately, I've been sidelined since early July due to a dull ache in my left foot. Had X-rays (no fracture) and a subsequent MRI. Radiologist reviewing the MRI didn't see anything but ortho said he saw some minor edema in my 4th metatarsal. Recovery time was supposed to be 2-4 weeks, but nearing 3 weeks now and not really feeling better. Heading to a podiatrist later today for a second opinion.

Already deferred Chicago, and still hanging onto a shred of hope for NYC, which I cannot defer again after deferring last year.

I was running around 30 MPW consistently in the spring and ran a very comfortable half in late May on a difficult hilly course, so hoping once I can back to it, the rust will shake off quickly and I can run (not race) just to enjoy NYC.

Congrats @jmasgat !! I'll be running NYC too (completing my goal of doing the 3 US based world majors) but my farewell to marathons will be in April. Neither will be run for time. Otherwise my "B" races will be the Disneyworld Half and Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare. Usually I just limit to one race a year but I couldn't resist the return of Disneyland races and a chance to get a C2C medal.

From the PDR website:

https://www.philadelphiadistancerun.com/Race/Events/PA/Philadelphia/PhiladelphiaDistanceRun

Though the 5K *can* be completed prior to the Half Marathon, PDR does not promote or guarantee that signing up for both races can be accomplished on race morning. The difference between start times is 30 minutes.

SAFD: Currently training for Berlin - I am getting in the miles but the heat and humidity are killing my pace (and self confidence :rotfl2:). Did an 18 miler yesterday and just felt awful after about mile 10. Lots of walking and talking myself out of bailing! Even starting my run at 5:45 am, it was already 75 and 95% humidity. But no injuries (knock on wood!) so I am hoping that if I keep pushing through I will do better on race day (assuming it is cooler and less humid in northern Germany at the end of September!)
Like @Jason Bryer this will be my 3rd world major, going for the 6 star medal! I have the London marathon in April so that will take me to 4!

Thanks! I'm only got 12 states (and DC) so far, mostly because I've repeated a bunch of favorites (like Disney!) so many times, and I've also been focusing on the World Marathon Majors. I finished all the majors in Tokyo in March, so now I can finally get around to focusing exclusively on getting more states. Beginning next year, I'm hoping to be trained up enough to try two marathons on the same weekend. We'll see how that goes.
