The makers of Kleenex have decided to discontinue selling the product in the Canadian market. Of course there will still be multiple other brands of facial tissue still available. I rarely buy Kleenex brand - if I hadn't heard this new report I'm not sure I would have ever even noticed they left the market.

That said, Kleenex is so iconic the word itself has come to define a facial tissue. Do you call all facial tissue Kleenex, as in "I need to grab a Kleenex" or do you say tissue? This story was all over the news yesterday and the news-talk radio channel I listen to did a fluff-piece (no pun intended) on the morning show about it. They talked about how 50 years ago people used linen hankies and took a text-poll on what people nowadays use to blow their noses. Turns out a few still carry cloth hankies, although that seems like sort of a genteel affectation. Some voted that they never buy Kleenex/tissues for their homes, they just use toilet paper for the purpose. I found that kind of icky for some reason and I can't imagine offering a guest a piece of toilet paper, if they needed something during a visit. :upsidedow

I voted but we pretty much buy the Kleenex brand. There are occasional Puffs mixed in, but rarely. Heck, I just packed some Kleenex into our storage area that we got at Sams.

You won’t be missing much without Kleenex. They’ve redesigned the boxes & they’re so ugly. I have bought Kleenex brand for as long as I can remember. But I am now trying out other brands. I can’t look at those ugly boxes in my rooms every day.

But even tho I’ve bought Kleenex for years, I refer to them all as tissues.

Australian here - they’re tissues for us. And I still carry a linen hanky albeit not so much for usage but as a good luck charm when our son is competing in his sport.

My Dad always had 2-3 hankies on his person - so he was always the go-to person should tears happen etc. He passed away a couple of years ago and they were divvied up amongst the daughters and grandkids who wanted one. I carry one as a talisman as my Dad was his grandchildren’s greatest champion.

My Mum now carries delicate ladies linen hankies as our go-to.

Paper tissues are in our bags for actual nose blowing or cleaning in need.

I wonder what the reasoning is behind this decision. I’m sure it’s in the article, but I don’t care enough to read it lol

Everything is Kleenex to me, even though we currently have Scotties tissue from Costco.

When my daughter was five (so 18 years ago) she went through a phase of using hankies. We had a heck of a time finding some, and my aunt in Australia ended up sending some over. She’s always been a weird kid lol

I buy whatever brand is on sale. I probably use Kleenex vs tissue interchangeably to refer to the same thing, regardless of brand. I have been known to use TP, paper towel or a napkin if that is more handy at the moment, but prefer a tissue to either. My dad always carried a cloth hanky.

I voted "other" -

Where I grew up, they were called Kleexex, no matter the actual brand.

Where I live now, they are tissues, no matter the actual brand.

I prefer Puffs but only because the opening on the box (part top and part side) works better for me than Kleenex which just has the opening across the top. Since I keep a box on the second shelf of my nightstand that makes a difference and makes it easier to just grab one.

But whether I buy Puffs, Kleenex or Sam's Club brand they're all pretty much the same.

"Other" for me. I use "Kleenex" and "tissue" interchangeably. I have, on occasion, just used toilet paper, but I have (usually) Kleenex at home. Sometimes other product.

I'm not terribly brand loyal, but will use the terms tissue and Kleenex interchangeably.

It looks like Kimberly-Clark isn't leaving Canada (their medical and industrial business is massive), but have been dealing with competition from private labels. I'm sure Costco was the biggest. In my experience, there really isn't that much to differentiate Kleenex from any competently made facial tissue.

I don't recall exactly where I got it, but I do remember buying Kleenex branded facial tissues that were labelled for sale in Canada. Obviously with a combination of English and French.
