Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER RESORT Information & Questions

So.. This will be my DW and I's first trip to WDW with children (niece 9 y/o and nephew 4 y/o). We have planned afternoon "breaks" for them and their parents (god knows they will need it). I was wondering what kind of advice anyone would have for around POFQ for the kids to do. We know the splash pad, pool, naps, etc...

We were trying to think of other things. The 4 y/o will probably need a nap so we (DW and I) plan on taking him to our room so he gets the king sized bed. One of the 4 of us (DW, BiL, DS or I) will be in the room for when he wakes up. The 9 y/o is a little firecracker and I think will be the one that we will need to keep busy during the nephews "down time".

Any suggestions for my niece would be greatly appreciated.. :) Thanks in advance. I have looked over multiple different boards on this site and such but can't seem to find what to do with one of two little rascals while the other is taking a "break". Maybe I'm not looking in the right spots?!?

There are activities at the pool. That is where we hang out in the afternoons.

We actually have some of this time set aside. I was looking at the way too early accuweather.com weather report and they are calling for rain most afternoons that we are down in Orlando. I know that this has plenty of time to change but since we go almost every year in Sept. we know the pop up storms hit between 1-4 pm. That's during our "down time". We are going to pay for my niece to do the tie-die t-shirt option.

Just wondering if there was anything else. We were thinking of having 2 or 3 adults take her to DS and letting her go through the World of Disney. Since we will be celebrating her B-day while we are there we made up "gift certificates" for her and my nephew. They get 1 set of mickey ears, 1 custom or pre-made magic band and 1 random item of their choice. :) We are trying to be good "god parents" and aunt and uncle. This is their first trip to WDW (hopefully not their last) and we are paying for their entire vacation.

That's just a little background on what we have been planning and such.

Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated.. :)

The hubby and I are staying here for the first time in November, I planned this as an anniversary trip with no kids! We fly in fri morning and will fly out Sunday evening. The main objective is to do food & wine! So upon arrival early Friday afternoon we will explore the resort a little and try the beignets as a light snack after the flight. Then we will head to Epcot for the evening. Saturday morning we will hit Hollywood studios and do a few things there, then hoping to either take a short swim or maybe rent a surrey bike after lunch before heading back to Epcot. Might try to visit the boardwalk too, depending on how long we spend at HS. Sunday we fly out around 6:30 so we plan to hit MK at rope drop and spend the day there, and maybe grab more beignets before getting on the magical express!

I can't wait to stay here, we are a family of 5, so unless we get 2 rooms, we have a pretty low chance of bringing the kids here anytime soon! It's fine that the food court is down, as we are going for food & wine and will only grab a few snacks, and probably breakfast in the mornings. They have Mickey waffles, that's all I need!

Well, quite honestly weather reports in this regard are going to be useless.
360 days a year it will say chance of rain in Orlando.
Even the afternoon storms are not a sure thing. There is a chance of them just about every day but they still don't always happen.

I think the idea of going to DS is a good one.
There is also an arcade at the resort that she may enjoy.

May also think about staying at MK on your MK day and doing Sorcerer's game

If weather becomes an issue there is bowling at DS but chances are it will be quick moving Tstorms if any ar all. You can also use POR 's pool as a guest of POFQ

I know about the weather forecast being "iffy" at best. We also know from previous trips that it will rain at some point during the day even if it is a short period of time.
We have plans for the arcade at POFQ and DS. We'll figure something out.

Thanks again for some great advice. :) I'll make sure my DS and DBiL know about the opportunities.

We didn't think of bowling. Thanks for the idea. We were thinking Disney Quest but then realized it was closed. Opps... Bad aunt and uncle.. :) lol. Thank you for the advice though. We'll consider this. My niece loves bowling too so it may be a blessing in disguise.. :)

Double check Disney Quest. I know they were planning on closing it, but the deal for the NBA place fell through. Last I heard, it was still open?

What about taking her to the Grand Floridian for the Wonderland Tea Party. Held Monday through Friday. I think it's 1:30-2:30.

Another option is to have one adult leave the park with the mapper, and the rest of you carry on in the park!

I will check into this. Last I had read was Disney Quest was closed. Maybe for refurbishment or something along those lines. I had not heard that the NBA place fell through though. This makes my heart happy. This could be a good option.

We have discussed this option. It is probably what will happen on one or two days but the 4 y/o is pretty smart and if he sees that the 9 y/o isn't leaving he won't want to leave.

Thank you all for the good options. We have thought of a few of them and didn't think about the others you guys/gals have thrown out there. We may have enough now to take care of our afternoon breaks. :) You guys/gals are all a great wealth of knowledge. Thank you. :)

What a wonderful experience you are giving to your niece and nephew! I love the idea of the custom "gift certificates"!

I hope you all have a great trip!!

We are going the week of Thanksgiving and we got the mailed notice that Sassagoula Floatworks would still be under renovation. So I can confirm that the planned completion date is no earlier than Thanksgiving.

Does anyone know the size of the window in the rooms? Trying to preplan window decorations for Christmas.

5ft square, subdivided into smaller panes:
