Roxymama's 5k to Marathon, Time to Collect Another Castle

T+D was 153 last night. I probably should have just gone to the gym, but I had an errand to pick up nose drops for the kiddo at Walgreens and so walked to Walgreens and then started my run by running back (holding my bag) and then dropping off at the house and continuing on. Luckily it was an easy pace night and I took the first mile really easy (it was muggy as heck out) but I guess my body got used to it because my final miles were more in line with actual "good weather" easy pace.

So I guess now when they ask on the running thread "What's the weirdest thing you carry while you run" I can say "nose drops!"

HA on the nose drops! This weather! UGH!!! I must remind myself of this when I'm complaining about running in 20 degree weather this winter.

Good for you guys (@roxymama and @michigandergirl) for getting your runs done, though! I did my tempo yesterday in a T+D of 146 and when I saw that it was about the same conditions this morning for my easy run, it was a really easy decision to go back to bed and do a treadmill workout instead... and I am not the treadmill's biggest fan.

I'm more prone to do easy runs during the "ugh" weather outside than the speed/tempo/etc ones which I'll move indoors. I'm still undecided if my ones with strides are better outside or on a treadmill. Pressing the increase and decrease buttons makes me a little klutzy as opposed to just doing it by running faster and slowing down outside. Especially since I'll just pick landmarks instead of doing by staring at the clock. But then there is air conditioning (sweet sweet air conditioning) and I probably do go a bit faster on the treadmill. Sooooo???? I dunno.

My Thursday run next week is 100% going to be on the treadmill..I already just know it. Next week is gonna be tougher than this week.

Yep, me too. I instruct a 1/2 marathon clinic and I totally "have to run with the slow group" on really hot days ;)
Will you be attending disney for the Marathon weekend in January (I can't remember)?

Not this year for marathon weekend.
We are going to WDW in October/November for Halloween/Food n Wine Fest/Wine n Dine 5k & 10k/Daughter's 5th birthday. No other disney trips planned at this point. Our early winter vacay will be a trip for a friend's wedding.
Also, I'm 100% not mentally ready to take the deep-dive into marathon training. It may come, but right now I'm just not. Still 100% jealous of everyone who is going...because I always am.

Mile into my easy run and I'm walking home to change out of these devil shorts. Like how is it possible to chafe this much? How do you ride up so bad? How are you generating heat? Why?????

I will put on my old faithfuls and head back out.

How does anyone with even a teeny bit of thigh handle these wind-breezy-shorts? You think I'd of learned by now.

I didn't think anyone with thighs DID wear them. LOL!! Chaffing sucks!

I got overconfident in my thighs apparently. I like to blame the shorts instead of them. But they're probably to blame. I should probably punish them by running 5 miles later today.

I always run in cropped pants or full leggings - I hate having my legs rub against each other & I feel like shorts always ride up (it doesn't help that the shorts I own are more or less of the booty variety). I just die in the heat. Maybe one day I'll run in shorts.

But in a sparkle skirt ;)

I shoulda done that!!!

I was the same and obviously not quite in tune with shorts yet. Nike makes a 6" and 8" short that's just like their compression leggings but way longer than short shorts. I mean, they look like bike shorts from the 90's but I'm not as hot and way less chafey.
Edited to add pic of one of my long shorts that cover my "powerful" thighs.

Tonight summary. I had 5 miles at 10:52 on the docket. It was 94 and.T+D was 163 at 5pm. Ooooph
Then a storm rolled in and it looked like treadmill for me, because I did not want to wait too long and miss game of thrones in real time. For the night is dark and full of spoilers. But then the storm stopped and it was 74 all of a sudden. T+D dropped to 137 so my adjust pace would be in the low 11's per mile. So I headed out. Listened to Hamilton for a change. Nice and shady. Humid but not bad. Lil bit of breezy wind. And I hit 10:51 overall. I had some borderline a little too fast but overall felt like I was not pushing hard.

So that finished the week off strong. Next week looks more challenging but one day at a time.

Now off to be a dragon nerd :)

I can not run in regular running shorts. I think I've tried it twice and the chafing was just no good! It's compression on these thighs no matter what.

Reminds me of one of my favorite parts of Steel Magnolias

when Truvy says, "Well, these thighs haven't gone out of the house without lycra on them since I was 14." and Clairee responds, "You were brought up right. " :D

Training Week #7 (Wow has it really been that many...not that I'm ever not training...but I mean it feels like I just started this plan)
Last week was relatively easy probably because I had just ran two back to back races. So that made sense and happy that I ended on a positive note, getting in 5 miles outside for my long run despite it being hot as hades all day. Saved by a quick storm to lighten the temp, if not the humidity.
So this week in comparison does seem a bit more strenuous, but I guess that's half training for you right?
Mon 7/24: OFF (YAY!) - I need it, I'm tired.
Tue 7/25: 5 mi @ EA (this is only the second or third...let me check my notes...third run of the plan that's gone to an hour or more. Treadmill? Yeah, treadmill) BTW y'all should drink every time I say a run will definitely be treadmill and then I run outside instead.
Wed 7/26: STIR time (stuff that isn't running)...I feel like my abs/core needs some work. Any good suggestions? That I'll probably hate. I'm feeling a bit mushy in the tummy lately.
Thur 7/27: 2mi WU + 4mi Tempo + 1 mi CD (that's 7 miles y'all)
Fri 7/28: OFF
Sat 7/29: My sister's birthday! @AuntieBean are you so excited????
Also 6 mi @ EB w strides
Sun 7/30: 8 mi @ LR (looks like I have enough miles to go visit my old long run stomping grounds in Chicago's hill country...aka tiny tiny tiny hills)

It's gonna be hot again so I'll try to adjust any non-treadmill pace expectations accordingly to fend off any negative-thought-mental-pace-gremlins. My goal is to just get all of these mileages done this week and see how my body responds. Following week is similar but with a little less total mileage HUZZAH!

In feet news, I started getting a blister on my upper inner arch area below my big toe on my right foot. Remind me to body glide my feet next time as I forgot this life-saving long run step (it only started right at the end of mile 5.) I'm starting to think that with this increased mileage I may need a second pair of shoes (last half training I was rotating pairs at this point but I'm down to only one good pair.)

Ok, that's it for me today.

one last last thing...Where are our Wine N Dine medal reveals???? Disneyland half hasn't even gotten theirs yet. I WANT TO KNOW SO I CAN PLAN MY OUTFIT!!!!
