buying a 25 point add on

I called today to buy a 25 point add on at BLT AUG UY and was told they didn't have any points. They said they would wait list me. Any idea how long I should expect to wait til they find the points?
 
I tried to buy 30 BLT June UY in April/May of this year. I was hoping to get 2016 points, but they didn't have any June UY at the time. I was put on the wait list. I ended up getting the points in early June. So I missed out on getting the 2016 points.

Likely purposefully, I suspect the contract where you got points didn't have the 2016 points available.
 


Is there a list of current points costs? Am thinking about adding 25 points at AKV
 
My BLT add on took 1-2 days to come through, but it was Feb UY in May, so it was the most common UY and we were already in 2017.

Are you also stalking the resale sites at the same time while you wait? Or do you want to buy direct? No guarantees-we waited 8 months for a small add-on in the right UY (also August) at one resort, next time we just happened to find what we wanted the first day we started looking.
 
Depends how long the wait list is. Did they tell you how many ahead of you? We were on BLT wait list a year ago. I remember we were stuck at number 8 for a while then they must have bought up lots of contracts and we moved up quickly. Got our points just days before the end of our use year. I believe we waited at least 10 weeks to get to top of wait list.

yeah we bought a 160pt resale last month and now getting a 25 pt direct to get the perks. Really hope it doesn't take 8 months

Which is why I feel that for some resorts it's often best to buy the points you need there resale then not worry as much about the home resort for the retail add on. Ideally it'd be at the same resort and UY for most people but it doesn't have to be. I'd rather have the same UY under a single master but different home resort than same home resort in a different UY for this situation. Since I feel a cushion of points is a almost always a good idea, the add on can fit into that cushion but still isn't ideal.

Makes sense now. The 8 month wait was just looking at resale sites. Hopefully direct from Disney will happen sooner. Also, we were looking for HHI, which doesn't "move" nearly as much.

I imagine that they will have points at the first of the month for an August UY. They probably have ROFRed a contract, but it doesn't have 2016 points, so they can't sell it to you right now. Once it gets into the 2017 UY, they can sell you the points. That is just my guess.
 
I waited a few days when I added on my 25 points in May. I did gently call the guide back the next day to ask if he had any idea when there might be points available... figured I'd rather sound like a pesky but eager buyer, and eventually it would be less annoying to just find me the points than keep dealing with my calls. But, it could also have been a happy coincidence. I was already in 2017 UY so there were no issues about 2016 points, which would be your case with an August UY.
 
im really debating on doing a 30 point add on at Boardwalk to guarantee a stay there every 3 years. Or do you think i should stick with all my points at BLT?

problem with doing points for once every three years is that if you have to cancel your trip -- you're losing out on three years' worth of points.
