Christmas Break Trip to DW?

Hi everyone! DH and I are thinking of surprising our dd's with a trip to DW Jan 1-6 2018. We took our first trip this past spring and we all loved it so much and can't wait to go back.

With that being said are we crazy to consider going over the Christmas break? With the girls high school and work schedules this may be our only opportunity this year to go and I'm not sure if that is clouding my judgement. I've read that the parks will be insanely crowded, what about the resorts, pools and restaurants? Will we be wading through crowds everywhere we go? We will drive so we can drive ourselves to the parks when we go, is that preferable to Disney transportation when it is so busy?

If anyone can share the pro's to going over Christmas break and tips on how to make the most of this trip if we decide to do it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

We did it in 2014. Loved it and would do it again. I planned like crazy and found it manageable. Be prepared for crazy crowds though!! I didn't find the resorts and restaurants any more crowded than normal IMO. I was able to walk up to get a table at Chefs de France shortly after they opened. QS places are busier but OK if you go at offtimes.

Also, if you are morning people, Christmas time is pretty awesome as you can go super early and get a lot done before the sleepyheads get moving.

If you intend to go Jan 1-6 2018, The weather will be great, you will want to bring pants and jackets just in case along with the shorts as it does get cold sometimes.

As previous posts say, the crowds will be crazy for this week! I have three suggestions as to that; 1) ROPE DROP. 2) ROPE DROP, 3) ROPE DROP :)

Thanks so much for your input, it's very helpful. If we decide to take a break mid day back to the resort what time would be good to go back as the crowds start to thin?

This is when we go... 3 years running now.

We spend NYE at Epcot and stay through the following weekend. Consider park hoppers. The flexibility will allow you to rope drop or morning EMH one park then hop to a less crowded park. We also FP+ our second park during the heaviest crowds, usually 11:00-2:00. We have not found the crowds to be awful and New Years' Day is very slow in the mornings, as you can imagine!

We did 12/31-1/9 in 2015/16 and we're doing it again this year 12/30 - 1/6. Last time we went to Typhoon Lagoon on New Year's Day and it was 80 degrees and not crowded at all! We went to MK on Jan 3 and it rained so it was pretty much dead. I have pictures of empty streets from that night - it was fantastic! The only really crowded day we had was 1/2 at HS, but it was one of the last days of the Osborne lights. Even though it was very crowded, it was manageable. We booked a dessert party, which was perfect for getting out of the crowds for a little while.

As long as you have a good plan, you'll have a great time!
