SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Information & Questions

We received 3 Id cards per room and not all of our rooms had 3 people in them. The key will be is how strict will they interpret the 14 and under must be accompanied by an "adult" for the bus portion. The 17 year old with the drivers license and SOG pass will at least be able to get a group of 5/6 on with no problem.

Good to know...thanks. Yes well worst case my kids know the system well enough and they will just either catch the Shady Shuttle or walk to the Polynesian Resort and ride the monorail there either to the MK or the TTC depending on where they plan to go. It may only be an issue if they are heading to another park or returning and want to do a SOG bus back directly to the resort.

When we stayed at SOG in August the receptionist told us it was the 38th time we have stayed there....LOL.

We sponsor our kids and grandkids. Before they got driver's licenses they used their school ID and the resort ID to board the bus. When we were there in April, our 17 year old, 6 foot 2 inch grandson still used his school ID since he didn't have his driver's license yet.

I think as long as your kids are well behaved you will have no problem. My grandkids never did and I was unaware of the 14 and up rule till I just read it now. You can ask for as many resort IDs as you have people staying in that room. My daughter always gets 4.

Wow...that's about 34 more times than we have stayed there! Most of our trips have been short, or we stay as a bookend before another resort stay. So we have a lot to learn! I'm also hoping they won't bat an eye as long as the kids are well behaved.

They have a sign up now that tells you to hold up your ID's for the guard to see when you are walking by the guardhouse. One time there were 3 people walking right behind us. The guard yelled over and asked if they were with us. They weren't. The guard walked up to them and detained them for quite a while. Another time my D-I-L was walking back close to midnight and the guard stopped her.

Good to know...that was definitely not the case for us back in May when we stayed there, but we only walked back maybe twice? I honestly don't know how often they will really NOT be with the rest of us, as most of our travel will truly be as a group and most likely we'll utilize the 12 person van I already have booked. I'll definitely report back if we have any issues. We leave next month.

you also have to remember there are golfers coming in from other resorts to the Palm and magnolia courses. having that slip of paper will make it easy.

I'd also like to add the Java cafe at night across from check in, are very generous with their servings for ice cream. Every year we go they are great and with a long line of people coming back from the park

They are generous with everything! We had some bagels in our room but ran out of cream cheese. We went down and asked if we could buy just a little bit of cream cheese for our bagels, they refused to let us pay and gave us enough for probably a weeks worth of bagels!

Wondering if anyone has recommendations for transportation from the airport. Not renting a car. Not going to use Uber. I was looking at reviews for Sunstate and they were pretty poor. Used to use Sunray and loved them. Used the "new" Sunray.... not so much. Only 2 of us so I do not want a van. Sounds picky I know :)

We used Sunstate in February and had no issues. We had a very nice driver, everything was clean, on time, etc.

Restaurant question here...wondering if anybody has done either the Clambake or Shrimpfest at Shades of Green? It appears they have them on Fridays alternating, so I'm guessing they will have one of them on the Friday we are there.

Any reviews of it from seafood lovers especially?

Being from Maryland, we get plenty of good seafood here so I'm curious if it's worth a visit for us and the rest of our large group for a Friday evening dinner.

Seafood lover, but never tried any dinners at Shades anywhere other then Evergreens. Most of the reviews I heard of people while I was down there on site said average. The breakfast buffet is good.

YeS we did the breakfast buffet once a few years ago. It was okay. Other than that we have done the little place downstairs near the bus stop for breakfast sandwiches and Manginos a few times which was just okay also.

Here's a question for anyone who has stayed at SOG, how are the restaurants on-site with food allergies? We haven't stayed at SOG since I've been dealing with multiple food allergies, we've been staying at other resorts on property and usually everywhere at Disney is great with food allergies so I'm really interested to know if SOG is the same way.

Not sure how long it has been since the last time you went, but the breakfast buffet was better then the last time we went. It is nothing fancy but it has all the basics. We did it as part of the Sunrise package for 4 out of the 8 days of our trip and that made it very reasonable. The place near the bus stop serves its purpose. A place to just pick up something quick before heading to the park. Nothing more then that.

Can't address from personal experience for serious allergies, but my sister has mild allergies to onions and garlic and she had no problem dealing with that there. I am pretty sure they will accommodate you as long as they realize it is a real allergy and not just a preference.

This is a GREAT one for us, as we will have a member of our group with Celiacs so she can't have gluten at all. I know Disney places will be good about that, but I'd love to know about SOG as well.

Hmmm...our breakfast buffet experience was probably 3 years ago? Thing is I don't eat much at all for breakfast, so it's not worth it for me to pay for a buffet when all I might eat is some fruit at the most. Good to know that if others in our party want to give it a try it might be something for them. Also we'd be dealing with somebody with a gluten intolerance as I mentioned above, so that plays into where we eat as well.

We are a gluten free family. We have stayed at Disney resorts and stayed at SOG this spring. We only ate one meal at SOG, breakfast buffet, because we just felt more comfortable with the options at the Disney resorts. We ate at the Poly quick serve a lot! SOG did accommodate our child's gluten allergy with a gluten free Mickey waffle at the breakfast. It may have been an "off" day but the waffle wasn't fully cooked and was rather doughy. I did call prior to our visit and it sounds as though they do accommodate gluten allergies at SOG but we just chose to have groceries in the room and eat at the parks and nearby resorts instead.

I have Celiac. SOG has gluten free pancakes and waffles. I've never had the waffles but the pancakes were NOT good. They will make gluten free toast upon request. I asked how they prepared it and was told it's in its own dedicated toaster.

The chef will go through everything on the buffet and tell you what is gluten free. One offered to get items from the back if I was concerned about cross contamination on the buffet.

Manginos has one menu that designates gluten free options. You have to ask for it. I have had the pasta there many times without incident. I make sure they know I am a Celiac. There are a few other options, steak, maybe a porkchop. I always get the pasta.

The buffalo wings in Evergreens have no gluten ingredients but are fried in the same oil as the onion rings. (But the wings on the buffet wing night are gluten free depending on the sauce they are tossed in. The chef will tell you which sauces are gluten free.)

The Express cafe has gluten free bread available. I don't know how they handle cross contamination but since it is all open you can watch how they prepare your food if you have concerns.

I have never seen any gluten free pastery there. They had creme brûlée for desert in Mangino's when I was there in April and again in May and August. Most creme brûlée is gluten free but I did not ask so I'm not sure if SOG's is.

Great info about gluten free dining at SOG, thanks everyone! I have multiple food allergies (gluten, dairy, food dyes) so if we stay at SOG again I hope they can accomadate food allergies, like someone else mentioned maybe I'll call ahead and also have groceries in the room just in case!

Disney restaurants are so easy to work with with food allergies and that's one reason I like to stay on property because I always know I can eat safely anywhere and it will certainly spoil you!
