Considering Staying-EEEEKKK-farther away than the crosswalk

On our first trip as a family to DL we stayed in a hotel far enough away that we needed to use ART to get to the parks...it would have been too far of a walk with young kids. Never again. We wasted too much time traveling back and forth. Now, even though everyone is old enough to handle a longer walk, we just really like the convenience of being right across the street. When we go to DL staying just minutes away always beats out the option of fancier accommodations.

This is a part to consider-when we stay so close I feel comfortable giving my son a little more independence and flexibility which he loves. The 2 mornings on our last trip that he got to sleep in a get ready without me and the little kids there and all of our chaos he loved it. He was also less of a whiner-yep a teenage whiner I know- the rest of the day because he wasnt as tired and over stimulated. I don think I do want to give that up but I dont think I would be able to do that if we stayed farther away...

We are a shuttle family :) Like the bigger rooms and extra amenities at the hotels a bit further away. If you stay at a hotel with a dedicated shuttle (extra stops take too long) it really not that much of a difference.

Sounds like you'll be really "roughing it" with the rest of us ultra-frugal visitors. :charac2: It's really not that far to the HoJo. Just take a few walks around your neighborhood before your trip to get your feet in shape for the extra 500 feet. Now the Menage....that's a long walk. Having to cross over the freeway...that just seems like a long way. That's almost "busing it" distance. The Sheraton is right on the edge of what I'd want to walk. We did Portofino (right next to Sheraton) a few years back and it was almost too long. But it's a straight shot.

Busted-first world problem big time. Not exactly roughing it by possibly needing to uber Lol. I do the ultra frugal thing at time but I just usually do it while sticking close to the crosswalk. There are definitely places on my "never ever again" list that are a stones throw from the crosswalk. Cheap but-kinda scary. Even Desert Inn seemed like it has finally made its way into the not-until-they-do-a-refurb zone... but you can book it for 100 a night if you book far enough out.

Sheridan park has 4th night free offer for my dates so it actually is quite an economical option.

If Hotel Menage is too far to walk then it's off the list-Four Point Sheridan refurbishment or not. I dont want

I am leaning towards Hojo-the parking fee savings alone make me take notice. I get tired of paying to park especially with the increase parking fee that The crosswalk places have-15 a day is an extra 75 buck which is a lot of Churros.

We stay at the Sheraton Park often and never have a problem with the walk. But we see lots of families heading to the TS lot across Harbor to take the free shuttles. So that might be another option for you.

Yeah, that free parking is always a big bonus. Shoot, some hotels a 15 minute walk away charge for stinking parking. Ridiculous. Depending on when you come, Tower 1 might be open. It's closed in Nov/Dec during our trip. But they have great park views from there, if you're willing to spend a bit more.

I think it just depends how much walking you can handle. Personally the idea of walking an extra mile after walking for 10+ hours is not my idea of fun. We once stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, and the extra block or two of walking was really miserable for us. If you are willing to take Uber or a shuttle I think it makes a big difference.

My last trip helped me make a firm decision that I need to be near the crosswalk next time. We had a 15 minute walk and I hated every second of those 15 minutes. Our sore, tired feet made it more like 20 at the end of the day. Having a larger room with more amenities doesn't mean as much as a shorter walk at the end of the night. I'm one of those people that never gets to wear cute shoes because of my "problem feet" so I want that shorter walk.
Just me, though.

Our last trip solidified my decision to stay near the crosswalk from now on as well...My 4 year old got scared on pirates and threw up in the boat- and all over me. I had a change of clothes for HER but nothing for myself so we had to head back to the hotel- and I got to smell like barf for almost an HOUR before we made it those 5 miles.

An hour! Where did you stay?

I'm so sorry that happened to you and your daughter. We always hope things will go smoothly and something like that can put a damper on the magic. I hope you were able to enjoy the rest of your day.

It was only 4-5 miles away, on Beach Blvd. But by the time we got off the ride, walked to the trams, waited for the trams, got off the trams and up the escalators to the car and out of the structure and drove there it was an hour of smelling awful. :(

It was at the end of the day. She wasn't acting sick or anything but had shown disinterest in the ride before...it was a 30 minute wait so I think she got herself worked up. Once we got off the ride, she was totally fine, but since I hadn't brought clothes for myself, we just left for the day. I don't think I'll ever be able to ride Pirates again without severe anxiety. :(

Yikes!! I never stay that far away thank goodness. 20 min max at HomeWood suites. :)
