Talking Mickey leaving Town Square theater

Also, isn't it a bit odd since they just added talking Donald to Disneyland?

It's hard for me to believe this is anything but park staffing. They only have so much money for CMs and starting in May, they need more CMs in Toy Story Land. Somethings gotta give and this seems like as good an option as any..

We will hope it's temporary as it was a great experience and a nice slice of Disney Magic - but it's hardly surprising to me and I'm a little surprised they didn't do this earlier when Pandora opened after hearing about the staff.

Definitely feels like a cost-cutting measure, but it may be a failed experiment based on customer feedback as well (and the cumbersome nature of the technology).

I've never seen talking Mickey, but I have a feeling my kids (who are scared by the costumed characters with giant heads) would freak out and run out the door if Mickey started talking. Heh.

Just saw him today. Asked the CM if Mickey was talking today, and she looked at me as if I had 3 heads, then responded "of COURSE he is". Guess she has only worked on shifts where the technology worked 100% . I'm glad we did it though, my son got a kick out of it so it was worth it to us, and I'm happy he got to experience him before Disney mutes him.

We never saw the talking Mickey, but makes me question if during the prototype phase that someone brought up the weight of the head during testing (assuming this is part of the issue for rescinding).

I know this doesn’t seem like much to the average guest but you can’t go backwards here.

This experience is huge for kids but “experience” is not a number on a spreadsheet.

This closing really bothered me and I couldn't figure out why. This is it. It's the idea of going backwards. The idea that they can not just adjust, but roll back experiences to save money at a park that they keep saying is increasing revenue.

Just wait until the monorail is discontinued because it's too expensive...

This is not a prototype as its been in use for years now and has been improved upon.

Engineering design standards usually have a prototype phase, before deployment, to gain feedback on functionality and meeting the scope/SOW requirements (in my experiences). I am somewhat shocked that Disney would release a product directly without creating a prototype.

I am not saying there wasn't a prototype as I am sure there was but this experience was not a prototype. Talking Mickey is used all over the world in events, and Disney parks now.

That was to my point on a prototype gaining the feedback from CM's before rolling it out. It does make me wonder if the product would have even been released if the initial CM feedback was about the head being too heavy.

Of course, we've fast tracked many products and designs to meet a corporate mandate/deadline (not saying that is the case here); this is usually when we found design flaws that actually cost us more money and increased delays rather than executing a robust test plan.

I get what you're saying, but @rteetz's info is that this was only discontinued as a cost-saving measure - not for safety/weight issues - which was one of the earlier theories.

From what we've been told, this will still be used at other parks.

It will still be used at WDW for special events but just not as a daily meet and greet.

Glad we saw him in 2015 as the picture we got was one of our 3 best group shots...though my kids (D5, D5 & S7) though he was creepy. We were not planning on going back to see him in 2020.

Fingers crossed! We will be there May 5th through 12th. Hopefully we'll get to see him one last time.
Hopefully then announce 60+ days out as I'd FP it if he is still talking. Going Memorial Day weekend so you have a better chance. Daughter has heard him speak there many times I'm worried her reaction if he doesn't to the point we wouldn't go in that case.
