Yo Ho Yo Ho a Tipsy Life for Me - A November '17 Dining Adventure - Complete 5/27

Not anymore :( He's no longer in charge of it and it 'reopened' with a different chef. Not as good anymore!

There is a real lack of good southern food in Naples. I got great seafood, italian and steakhouses out the butt though!
Oh no, guess you're down to just Homecoming too. We don't really have any good Southern places either. The best fried chicken is our area is Korean!

I just told my kid about Chez Fart Smith, which may have been a mistake in retrospect because I'm pretty sure he will now say that loudly when we go there (he has a hard time modulating the volume of his voice sometimes, lol).
He and Casey both!!!! If he's anything like her anything fart, poop, or butts gets repeated regularly everywhere you don't want it to :-)

I tracked down some photos and I think it comes with 3 but even 2 would be ok. I can't finish a whole one myself, especially not with a few bites of a side and all that breading. It looks like the biscuit version is 3, donut version is 2. Kid saw the donut version on the menu and I'm like "no, we're not doing that, one of my review friends says it's not worth it!" lol
You've got it right, even with 2 pieces its definitely enough for 2 people to share. I'm pretty sure Casey and I didn't even finish ours.

:rotfl: I snorted....
:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

The fried chicken dinner (non-donut) is definitely enough for 2 grown adults, much less one with tiny tummy. Plus you know, kiddo's online friends CANNOT be wrong. Does he know about your online review friends?! :cool2::cool2::cool2: mom=cool
Casey knows about mind since she's met a few. Though except for her thinking she's famous in our house mom most definitely does not equal cool :scared1:

Spoken like a true native:thumbsup2:goodvibes:rotfl:
I'll hop on a plan and no one will ever know the difference!

Can't wait to get back to Homecomin. I'm going to be doing what Jason did with the chicken biscuit sliders and the mac and cheese. Yum!!!
That is most definitely the way to go. I had total order envy!

Hey Miss Kari! Glad to see your Homecomin’ (g) review. I am a good southern girl and it reminds me a lot of Whiskey Cake and Prohibition Chicken in the Dallas area. If you ever make it here make it to one of those and thank me later!
Hi there Dawn!!! Yum, I which I knew about Whiskey Cake and Prohibition Chicken last time we were in Dallas. We had a family reunion there a few years back. I think Fuddruckers was the most exotic thing we ate :scared1:

Pretty sure that you’re right about the biscuits and cream cheese could be a secret ingredient in everything i eat and I would be happy. You’re a brave woman with the moonshine. Just a bit of moonshine makes my lips go numb and hen I am speaking in cursive a lot like your tipsy notes!
Yeah, cream cheese really does make everything better! I could never brave the moonshine by itself, but a little nip in my drink went down easy :drinking1

Oh my gosh, I just love that Homecomin'…I am drooling just looking at your pictures, and can't wait to go back! We don't get that kind of Southern food anywhere here in CT :sad2:
I know I had myself drooling too. Art Smith has a restaurant here, but its higher end and not nearly as good as Homecoming. I just want some fried chicken!

It looks like you staged that! Perfect :goodvibes
What can I say. I got mad unintentional tipsy photography skills!

In my opinion, THAT is the best dessert on property! I'll be seeing you in a couple weeks, Hummingbird Cake ::yes::
I think the almond cheesecake and ooey gooey cake are still my favorite, but the Hummingbird cake was pretty dang good!

Donuts + Hummingbird cake? YUM!! Can't wait to hear more!
Maybe next time we'll just have dessert :-)

Sorry the donuts disappointed. I had the same dish & my donuts were also the cake type but were warm. However I like cake donuts ( who am I kidding I just like donuts :thumbsup2). The watermelon moonshine drink looks so good.
I generally like all donuts, I just think I was expecting something closer to Krispy Kreme and was disappointed when it wasn't. Casey on the other hand - who loves all thing donuts - was in 7th heaven

Animals Snacks & Sippin' in the Springs

Jason was up bright and early the next morning for a run (because apparently doing 20 miles 4 days ago wasn't enough) while Casey and I enjoyed last nights Hummingbird cake for breakfast. Love the juxtaposition of my family :-)
IMG_E0150.jpg
He apparently stopped for some artsy photos along the way.

We eventually made our way to Animal Kingdom for the day and had an early fast pass to Flight of Passage.
IMG_4600.jpg
We found a nearly empty Pandora as apparently everyone was in the 4 hour line for FoP!!!! As we meandered toward the Safari we saw the line wrapped all the way back to Festival of the Lion King.

From there, Casey had her face paint from the day before fixed for tonights Christmas Party and then found a new friend that she couldn't do without.

IMG_4606.jpg
In the sea of Disney souvenirs, I may have the only 6 year old on the planet who would want the stuffed Dole Whip!

Bellies rumbling after just some cake for breakfast we decided to stop at Mr. Kamal's for a snack.
IMG_4609.jpg
Meet Mr. Kamals Seasoned Fries with Tzatzki Salad and Siracha Ketchup. Now I have no idea who this Mr. Kamal is but he's apparently been traveling a lot as to combine fries from France, .Greek Tzatzki , Asian Siracha and some good ole U.S. of A ketchup seems odd at best, but these were so good. The fries had a great seasoning and were cooked to order and the spicy ketchup was offset nicely by the cool Tzatzki. Well done Mr. Kamal! And to no ones surprise we of course had to have a Safari beer from Africa to wash our international snack down.

From there we conquered the Yeti and Claire Huxtable and her dinosaur friends, before we realized we needed some real
sustenance. We were pretty sure we wouldn't eat dinner tonight with the Christmas party, and wanted to try something filling and new, so we ended up booking a last minute ADR at The Boathouse.

On the way out, Casey needed a bit more to eat so Mickey pretzels for all!

Isn't she talented?

Animal Snacks & Sippin' in the Spring Part Deux

After getting to Disney Springs by way of Animal Kingdom Lodge we were seated quickly and it wasn't long before some adult beverages miraculously found their way to our table.
IMG_4617.jpg
Jason went for some fancy local brew. Where I on the other hand enjoyed some of Milwaukee's Finest.
IMG_4618.jpg
Notice the fancy glass. #Keepin'ItClassy

We did find it odd that they have absolutely no beers on tap. I don't think I've ever encountered that anywhere. Oh well, they went down easy regardless :drinking1

As we contemplated our choices, they brought us some of their bread I'd read so many wonderful things about.
IMG_4616.jpg
These were fine, but nothing special. They were not even remotely warm which could have been part of the problem. I've also heard these normally have some kind of honey butter on them, but I didn't detect any of that on ours.

Since we basically hadn't eaten all day and didn't intend to eat dinner, we decided to split an appetizer. Casey ended up choosing and went with the Hoison Chili Calamari, for which we got the sauce and chilis on the side in case it was too spicy for the kiddo.
IMG_4619.jpg

IMG_4620.jpg
The calamari was very well cooked and the peppers were HOT so I was glad we had them separated. The combination of the fried calamari, spicy peppers, and sweet hoisin was really good but for $18 I was very disappointed by the portion size. Narcoossee's does a similar appetizer that is about double the size. Plus they include the tentacles - and these didn't - and who doesn't want to munch on a suction cup?

For his entree Jason got the Gibsons "Sandwich King" Award Winning Burger with
Crisp Cherry Peppers, Jalapeno Havarti, Spiced Mayo and served with Fresh Cut Fries.
IMG_4622.jpg

Jason declared this the best burger he'd ever had on property! The meat itself was the star of the dish and had amazing flavor and was perfectly cooked. The accompaniments were nothing special, but the burger itself was so good he could overlook that. More to come on the fries.

Casey and I split the Dock Side Bucket with Fried Wild Caught Atlantic Surf Clam Strips.
IMG_4621.jpg
This was probably a bit of an odd choice given their expansive menu, but I love fried clams and can't find them often so I dove right in. The clams were sweet and tender and perfectly cooked. It even came with a delicious tarter sauce, which I don't generally like, but this one was thick and full of dill and clearly scratch made. This was also only $16 and significantly more portion wise than our $18 calamari. It would definitely make a great appetizer.

Jason and I both subbed out our regular fries for truffle fries for $2.50 more and WOW, just WOW!!! They were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and had tons of truffle flavor. They may have been some of the best we've ever had. Definitely worth the upgrade.

Overall, we were happy with the Boathouse. We had a nice and relaxing lunch and our only regret was sitting inside instead of enjoying a nice meal on the water (someone insisted her dole whip would melt outside :P). It didn't eclipse Homecoming or Morimoto for us food wise, but I am sure we'll be back.

Up next, can you say "Snalfie" (trademark pending).....

Aw, that's so disappointing, but your truffle fries sounded delicious.

I have never heard of Mr. Kamal and his great French fries, sounds tasty. I love clam strips too and they are hard to find. We enjoyed the Boathouse the one time we dined there. The truffle fries look very good. Andi loved that dole whip stuffie because it is her favorite Disney snack!

:rotfl:Whatever works!

That does sound like an odd combo :confused3

Looks delicious! And it doesn't have eyeballs ;)

someone insisted her dole whip would melt outside :P

We're still talking about the stuffed one, right?

YUM!! Boathouse is definitely one of my absolute favorites - so glad you enjoyed it too! I have to give that burger another try. I had it once and liked it but it was just so messy - way too much sauce. Looks like Jason may have gotten the spiced mayo on the side - I think that’s the way to go. Now I’m craving it for breakfast!

We found a nearly empty Pandora as apparently everyone was in the 4 hour line for FoP!!!! As we meandered toward the Safari we saw the line wrapped all the way back to Festival of the Lion King.
People are crazy! I mean I get it, some people can't get fat passes for it and some just love it that much. But that is just a long time to be in line!

From there, Casey had her face paint from the day before fixed for tonights Christmas Party
So, Jason ran a race, went to Animal Kingdom with you, went to Disney Springs AND went to the Christmas Party?!?! Man, that man has some energy!!!!

So cute!!! We have the mickey bar plush from our September trip. And were looking for this gal in February but couldn't find her. We love them, but maybe we all like food too much. :confused3

We had these in February! They were on my must trip list and they did not disappoint! You are right they are a weird mix but surprisingly good!

On the way out, Casey needed a bit more to eat so Mickey pretzels for all!
img_4612-jpg.310961
I say that in Disneyland has a whole line of food plush! I might have to buy them all!

I love Calamari with hot pepper in it. Looks delish!

Holy Burger! That thing is huge and looks amazing!!!!

This also looks great. I will eat clam strips but no clam bellies!

(someone insisted her dole whip would melt outside :P)
Sounds like something Morgan would say too!.

Now I have no idea who this Mr. Kamal is but he's apparently been traveling a lot
I'd like to meet this Mr. Kamal. Sounds like he's made the term mixologist into a whole new thing ;)

Very talented, indeed! :thumbsup2

it wasn't long before some adult beverages miraculously found their way to our table.
How does that happen?! And repeatedly, usually! :confused3

Oh well, they went down easy regardless :drinking1
Thank goodness for that :P

Casey ended up choosing and went with the Hoison Chili Calamari
I continue to be amazed at Casey's palate :thumbsup2

(someone insisted her dole whip would melt outside :P)
:rotfl: I was gonna joke that it must have been Jason but then you went ahead and said "she"

Those fries... OMG. And the burger looked heavenly too - I love me a good burger. ::yes::

I never knew such a thing existed...but I'd totally buy one :rolleyes1

At first I thought these looked delicious, but then reading your comment I agree these should be served super hot otherwise they wouldn't be appetizing.

The calamari was very well cooked and the peppers were HOT so I was glad we had them separated. These look good. The price doesn't surprise me, at Disney I feel like everything is way overpriced. It is annoying thought when you spend a lot and could still eat more after.

This looks delicious. I think the fries look really good too. Truffle fries are the best!

Aha! Awesome tip on the truffle fry upgrade at Boathouse. I was trying to figure out how we could get both the clam strip bucket AND truffle fries and you solved that for me. Everything else that sounds good to me there is an appetizer or salad. I will have to force the boys to share some plates for that meal.

your boathouse reviews just reminded me of why I will probably never go to the boathouse. Like people in the south meh on Homecomin', it's the food of my home, lol. There is even a place here with an amazing burger and truffle fries, $5 on sundays in the winter!

I only like the rings though but my kid won't touch that with a 10 foot pole! I love the stuff Casey chooses. I'm a little jealous that you can share so much with her!

Yum! I adore anything truffle. At home we make truffle popcorn. Get this: air pop popcorn, toss with a little truffle oil and truffle salt. TDF!

My DS loves calamari and when we were at the beach this past summer he got a piece that was a suction cup and he pulled the breading off and suctioned it to his hand and held it up so we could see. (I have a funny picture of it somewhere.) He is so used to getting the rings only most places that he thought it was the coolest thing.

Look at those legs! Guess he's gotta run to keep his figure while indulging in all the Disney yumminess :rotfl:

Both Casey and the Dole Whip stuffie are incredibly cute though!

Mr. Kamal's is a true hidden gem! We had these too and loved them. They go great with a beer from harambe market or Dawa bar! I just wish they would bring back the samosas. YUM.

We did find it odd that they have absolutely no beers on tap. I don't think I've ever encountered that anywhere. Oh well, they went down easy regardless :drinking1
Maybe they think it's fancy enough that people will either go for wine or a cocktail or suck it up for a bottled beer? I think that's really odd too... :confused3

Jason declared this the best burger he'd ever had on property! The meat itself was the star of the dish and had amazing flavor and was perfectly cooked. The accompaniments were nothing special, but the burger itself was so good he could overlook that. More to come on the fries.
OMG YES. It makes no sense but the Boathouse burgers are sublime!!!

This sounds amazing. I'm going to have to make note of this. My next trip is so short I don't know when I will make time to eat all the things I want to but I may have to hit up the Boathouse again very soon!

He and Casey both!!!! If he's anything like her anything fart, poop, or butts gets repeated regularly everywhere you don't want it to :-)

I saw this news earlier: http://www.wdwinfo.com/news-stories...eekly-saturday-night-shine-beginning-april-7/

and couldn't help but think of you and @Lisa F since Chez Fart Smith's is having this new "Shine Party" event. CheF art will even be on hand for the first one! We have a reservation for April 6, hoping maybe I will see him a day early!!!

The title caught my attention (love it) and once I clicked on the review, it's none other than my favorite food reviewer @kastoney !!! I'm going back to start from the beginning:goodvibes This is the perfect pick me up before my April trip:cool1:
