Disney Magic: Aug 16th, 2018 - 10-Night Norwegian Fjords & Iceland Cruise from Copenhagen to Dover

How is everyone's planning going?

We're going to Disneyland Paris for a few days before the cruise so I've been busy with booking DLP hotel, car service and flights to Copenhagen. I can't believe how expensive the car service is in Copenhagen. I know every suggestion says to take the train or taxi, but it's our first time there and I would be more comfortable using a car service. However, I'm wondering how easy it would be to take a tax from the airport. To be honest, when we travel, we usually use a car service and don't have much experience with just taking a taxi at the airport. Am I just being overly anxious?
If the taxi is that much cheaper, I would definitely take that option.
We'll be going to DLP too, but after the cruise. We'll have two nights in Copenhagen before the cruise. We may try public transit to the cruise terminal. Maybe we'll ask at the hotel.
The cruise is coming up so quickly. We're so excited!

This will be our first time in DLP so I'm excited.

I was pricing out the car service vs taxi in Copenhagen. There is at least a $100+ difference between them. And the train is apparently much less. I'm just not sure I'd be comfortable taking my luggage on the train. I think I need to do more research.

Yes, on my cruise meet group discussion it's come up a few times and a taxi seems to be much, much cheaper than a car service. I'm ok with luggage on the train to the ship (I think) but since we are arriving really late at night we are planning to take a taxi to our hotel.

Guys I was on an Iceland cruise in 2016 with DCL and we have an active cruise meets thread for 2019.

We as a group have purchased a bus of 45 from Extreme Iceland, with a guide to do our times on a golden circle tour day 1 and blue Lagoon day 2.

It's cheaper than DCL, by a lot, it's more flexible, we have a Reykjavik drop off post tour. We know each other already on the coach, pick up at cruise terminal with Iceland experts, and they provided credit card links for everyone to pay.

As a set smaller group we can direct the day more.

I attach contact details.

Note do not think, Day and night, there is no night, - well no darkness, you can come back later. DCL will have a Cabanas Buffett 5 pm to 8 pm, and 10 pm to midnight. Also there is unlikely to be a show it will be a movie night, repeated later in the cinema.

Thinking " outside the box" will improve your options and save money.

( we have done the same in Akureyri).

It's a great group online. I'm on there, too. And thanks for the Cabanas info - I didn't have the times.

It sounds like public transit to the terminal won't be that difficult - we might be trying it out that day. Otherwise it'll be a taxi. I also plan to chat with someone at the hotel when we are there, just to make sure whatever I'm planning to do makes sense.

I think we may try the taxi from the airport since it appears there are plenty. I don't know if I should try to book a taxi ahead of time...is that even possible? Usually, I can book a car service months in advance.

We're so excited as well!

I'm wondering if a taxi is just as reliable as the car service. With all that I'm reading, it appears the taxis in Copenhagen are similar to car services in the US.

It does appear that the trains are equipped for luggage. It seems quite a few people use it from the airport. I'm just leary about taking a train with so much luggage. I think the more experience we have with Europe and their public transportation, I'll be able to feel comfortable with it.

I'd be fine taking the train if we weren't getting in some time after 11pm. And that's after one long flight from CA and another shorter one from Paris so we will most likely be exhausted. And the taxis there are supposed to be fine. We have taken taxis in other cities in Europe without any issues. It was only Rome where I booked a car service from the airport since I read in multiple places that it would be safer and less expensive than getting into the wrong cab.

Does anyone know if DCL would modify their excursion in order to accommodate the time we're in port?

We're only at port in Alesund for 5.5hrs and the Path of the Trolls excursion is 8hrs. Does this mean that this port adventure will not be offered for our cruise? Or would the shorten it somehow. I know it takes takes almost 2 hrs one way, so that's 4hrs travel time. I'm just hoping they can offer something that will fit our port time.

That question has come up in our cruise group. I don't think anyone knows the answer for certain, but it sounds like there might not be enough time for them to offer it this time. If you read the Disney Cruise Line Blog, Scott and his family did it (if I am remembering correctly) and it took the entire day. I don't think we will know anything for certain until people staying concierge or platinum let the rest of us know what's being offered. I'm only silver, so I don't think I'll be much help with this one.

I know it's likely not going to be offered. I could imagine spending all day to really experience it. I was just hoping that perhaps DCL could remove stops in order to offer this port adventure. I know it's just wishful thinking...but if it does take 2hrs to go directly there and back, that would leave about an hour to explore...and if they make the meeting 30 mins earlier (say 8:00am) than our scheduled arrival, perhaps we can be all checked in and ready to leave as soon as we're cleared to disembark...then we can be back before all aboard.

I can see them doing it without the stops. In the trip report I mentioned, he said that some of the stops were longer than needed.

I hope so! I would be fine with just the one main stop and the drive. This is one of the reasons I was interested in this cruise.

Thank you for posting!

Although disappointed that they are not offering the Path of the Trolls excursion, I'm not surprised.

Hi All-

We are super excited to be going on this cruise in August!! This will be our second disney cruise, our first was on Disney Fantasy in the Carribean in October 2017. We are bringing our two boys 7/8 and we are flying into Copenhagen the day before. We noticed all the fish extenders on our first cruise and would love to participate in that on this cruise if anyone is interested!

August is coming up quick!!

Less than 1 year to go! I'm looking into non-DCL excursions in Iceland, and am getting frustrated that the Golden Circle seems to require at least 8 hours, and leave at 9am-ish - and we land at 12:30pm, and leave at 3:30pm the next day. Would love to hear if anyone finds a good solution to this!
I see this post is very old but just in case I am on this cruise also and we booked a Golden Circle tour with Fab Travel for that first day. They will pick us up shortly after arrival, if ou want info let me know.

Hi, is there a fish extender group for the cruise? We would like to sign up :yay:.

I haven't seen one here on the DIS. I know there is one on the cruise group on another site, but we won't have room in our luggage to participate so I don't know much about it.

Thank you for the reply. Do you have the link to the other site? Or do you know if it is a closed group?

I noticed that there are a lot of availability for DCL port adventures for our cruise. I know I'm doing a few private excursions, but I also booked a couple with DCL. Is this an indication that most people are booking private excursions?

Also, did anyone notice the Private Excursion on the Port Adventures page on DCL. I didn't notice that until after the updates. I tried to click on it, but there was no further info or a list of excursions available...I wonder if they notice that a lot of guests choose to do private excursions.
