I love credit cards so much!

@Mopedmom1 Did you get your points transferred?
Thanks for checking @pillow. I waited a full 24 hours and was able to transfer the majority to dh's CSR. Then for giggles I deleted the CSR transfer account and added my CIP and was able to transfer 6 points back to my account. I am going to keep a small (<10) amount of points in each CIP. Why? I don't know, it just seemed like I should just in case I have problems transferring points again. That way I can fiddle around with it, trying to get something to work. o_O

Someone was looking to open a Chase bank account I think.
Chase $500 bank bonus is back (300 checking, 200 savings) with online sign up. DoC's update here: Chase $500 Checking and Savings Bonus Publicly Available Online

Email yourself a coupon code first. If something goes wrong during sign up or they pull the offer early, you can use your emailed coupon code to apply the offer to the account via SM or use it to open in branch (if you have one available). All details are in DoC's post, which is now lengthy!, but I didn't want anyone to miss that tip.

No CC funding :( Just a good checking bonus if you can direct deposit.

That was me. Thanks. Although I was hoping for the short-lived $500 bonus for the biz checking. I just did the regular checking for $300 bonus. Up next is Key Bank checking for $400 bonus.

I think this is appropriate for the budget board because it's about saving money!

I just purchased what would have cost over $15k in airfare for under $500 thanks to credit card points/miles.

It was a huge PITA transferring and sorting everything out/finding availability but saving that much money is kind of a rush! I've used points for flights before but never this complicated or for such a high cash price tag!

For one leg of my trip United kept asking if I would like to buy my ticket for zero points for only $7,995...no, United I would not. Also does that ever work?

It can be a bit of a PITA getting everything straight, especially that first time. My spouse and I were so nervous the first time we went to the airport to board our first flight paid for entirely by miles earned via credit card. We had managed to snag a first class flight to Europe via mostly the bonus miles for getting the credit card. It just seemed crazy anyone would let us actually board a plane just for using a credit card a little bit, especially since my spouse always makes certain we pay off the card so we never pay any interest.

There have been RUMORS of Chase doing away with transfer options. At this point, it really is just a rumor, but it wouldn't surprise me if they do this at some point. I find it "safer" to transfer all points to my CSR cause I don't want them stuck where I can't get 1.5x.

So as many of you know SW opens flights for November on 5-31. I was wondering if it is wise to get the early bird boarding. I will have a 10,7,3 year kids. All first time flying and on SW. I don’t really mind spending the money cause the fights are free with points. Any thoughts would be great.

I don't think you NEED to purchase Early Bird boarding because you have a child under 6 years of age, which makes you eligible for family boarding. However, if you don't want to get stuck behind the "A" group, then maybe you want to consider it, but generally, there is plenty of seats available even after the "A" group has boarded. You only run the risk as far as everyone trying to sit together, I would say mid-B, when it starts to become a back of the plane or middle seat option.

"An adult traveling with a child six years old or younger may board during Family Boarding, which occurs after the “A” group has boarded and before the “B” group begins boarding."

And it isn't just the adult, it's basically the whole family I've seen. Perhaps other with more experience in terms of family boarding can chime in, but I seem to always see entire families boarding if they have a child that qualifies them for it :scared: (the face is because we are two adults and often  when I see families with teens who try to do this; I would totally understand parents with kids your age, but the ones boarding with a young child and then the entire family of grown ups drives me batty sometimes o_O). Or I have seen one parent board with the child and essentially hold seats for the remainder of the family boarding at their given slot.

I am trying to figure out our next couple of cards. We are in 2 player mode and are not AU on each other cards. I am working on spend on SPG Business and have about $2,000 left until Mid July so that will be no problem.

Here is what DH Has from past 24 months and credit limits. May need to lower some first.
1. August 2016 - CSR/Now Freedom - $34,000 Limit
2. April 2017 - Barclay Card - Closed
3. July 2017 AMEX SPG Business - $5000 Limit
4. January 2018 - SW Business - $5,000 Limit
5. January 2018 SW Plus - $30,000 Limit

So should be 3/24 -thinking about CIP - would love the 80,000 UR Points. Don't think we would be candidate for shut down. Should I lower the limits of the $34,000 and $30,000 cards.

Here is what I have and not sure if DH should get 2 cards in a row or if he should get one then me:

1. November 2016 CSR/Now Freedom - $9,000 Limit
2. May 2017 Marriott Personal - $5,000 Limit
3. June 2017 SW Business - $6,500 Limit
4. June 2017 SW Plus - $30,000 Limit
5. December 2017 - AMEX SPG Personal $18,000 Limit
6. February 2018 - Marriott Business - $5,000
7. April 2018 - AMEX SPG Business - $15,000

Also have Disney which has been opened since it came out with $5,000 Limit and CSP with $19,000 Limit - these are both past 24 months. So, I am at 4/24 right now.

So, we basically have UR Points. SPG/Marriott Points and SW Points. Would love more UR Points and open to other suggestions. We are planning on new carpeting shortly and building a new deck and getting new deck furniture so that could be a spend easily then in the fall will have some College Payments so that would be another spend. So, trying to figure out the next couple of cards. And if I should lower limits on anything. Thanks.[/QUOTE

Ok. So need new cards faster than I thought. Just finished up SPG spend today with new deck furniture. Found some new appliances and the sale goes until June 6. We are also getting new carpeting. So could use 2 cards right now. Plan to get DH the CIP. Do you think I could apply now or should I wait until June. Last 2 cards he had were SW business and Plus in January. He is 3/24. I lowered the high value cards to $10,000 this week

Then do you think I could use DH referral and get myself a CIP. Maybe cancel the SW business first. Otherwise what would you recommend for 2 nd card. Need 1 ASAP and can put off the carpet for a month or so. Help!! Dont want to screw us up.

So, just remember that we're just a family of 3 compared to your 6. I don't know if Sheraton will impose any kind of limit on lounge access while the SPG Biz still has this perk. Practically speaking, once the front desk agent keyed our cards for lounge access, the keycard got us into the upstairs lounge and no one up there counted or questioned us. (Keep in mind that other guests pay for lounge access by booking a club level room, and I don't think there's any way hotel employees can tell -- at least up at the lounge -- whether you're club level or got the perk from your credit card.) I recall the front desk agent gave us a paper card that might've had the number of guests written on it, which we had to show when checking into breakfast downstairs, but we never had to show this piece of paper when using the lounge upstairs.

The lounge has bottled water, juices and milk in a refrigerator, a coffee machine, tea and hot water, a soft drink fountain, wine and hors d'oeuvres during evening happy hour, and a continental breakfast in the mornings. You can use your keycard to access the lounge at almost any time during the day or night, but breakfast and hors d'oeuvres are served at only certain hours; other times, you can still enjoy the refreshments.

Alternatively, we were also offered a hot breakfast in the morning that included bacon and sausages, scrambled eggs, country potatoes, pancakes, muffins, made to order omelettes, fruits, coffee and juice. Typically, I believe this is served in the ground floor restaurant, but that was under renovation so they served breakfast in a small ballroom.

And @wendow, we've "known" each other on this board for, what? Three years or more? Since the good ol' days of the Target/eBay churn? A lot of you guys are like @disneymagicgirl says, old friends rather than strangers.

Since I've been posting about different Disneyland Resort-area chain hotels, I edited together a little map to help visualize what I'm writing about. Tagging @DisneyMandC, @SBWB48, and @disneymagicgirl too. (And I think I was missing @speedyfishy and @Jen and Ashwin. Sorry if I missed anybody else!)

The bright green dotted line is the walking path from the Sheraton to DLR. For those thinking about staying at the Hilton, I've also added a (harder to see) darker green dotted line from the Hilton garage out Hotel Way, up Katella, and merging onto Harbor. The bright blue dotted line is the walking path from the Sheraton to the Toy Story Parking Lot's shuttle stop. The darker blue dotted line is from the Hilton main entrance up the driveway before merging at the crosswalk on Harbor. The solid bright blue line is the Toy Story shuttle route as best as I can remember it (it's been a few years since I rode it) -- just remember where the "x" marks the shuttle stops, drop-off, and pickups, and the shuttle will get you where you need to go.

You can also see I also highlighted the locations of Marriott's SpringHill Suites and Residence Inn, Hyatt House, and Hilton's Homewood Suites, which were all mentioned as alternatives. There's also the location of CVS and Walgreens, which have decent pricing if you need to buy something on vacation. And most importantly if you're staying at Hyatt House, the Starbucks.

Hope this helps!

THANK YOU!! This is very helpful. That map is great! Now, I'm torn though between the Hyatt House and the Sheraton :) They both seem like great options. And I want to use the lounge before it goes away. However, the reality is that we won't leave the park so we'd miss all the evening fun. We'd only really benefit from the breakfast, which we will also get at Hyatt. I guess I just need to crunch points lol. I'd basically use all my spg points for two rooms at Sheraton so I'm hesitant to blow through them all. I do like that Starbucks being right outside Hyatt House. That's huge!!

And yes, I know we are 'old friends' on here but I was still amazed you remembered that we had a mobility issue. I appreciate that so much about you!

I do not think you need to buy the early bird boarding unless you really have a need to get on before the A group. There will still be plenty of seats for your family of 5 to sit together when you board between A & B in the 'Family Boarding'. It is for families traveling with a child under 7. Our family aged out of family boarding when my youngest turned 7 in March. So, now we will board in the B group and just deal but there are still plenty of seats even then for our family of 6 to sit together (we never really care and just head to the back).

I only purchase for the return flight. I don't want to have to remember to stop my fun and check in for flights. I don't know where I would be or if I would have good cell/wi-fi service.

I totally get that feeling now! It didn’t happen until just recently. That is exactly what I was feeling and thinking in the back of my mind on the way to the trip we are on now with the Singapore Suites flight. There was a part of me waiting for the other shoe to drop. I kept thinking someone was going to tell us sorry but there was a mistake and we are not really allowed to fly in the suites with points. It couldn’t be that easy. Even afterwards I kept thinking how I couldn’t believe we just did that. I’m glad I am not the only one that has these thoughts. Thank you for sharing and helping me feel less awkward about thinking all that! :-)

Those rumors are exactly what sent me into a panic yesterday when I couldn't get the points to transfer. Guess I'll be living on the edge with those 12 UR hanging out in my CIPs earning .15 instead of .18. I'm such a rebel! :P Having transferred all the points out of my CIP yesterday I was dead in the water trying to get anything to work and THAT stressed me out even more! :crazy2: Is patience a requirement for this hobby? Maybe I should just give up now. LOL

Thanks again for your help! :flower3:

Wow you guys are so awesome! Thanks for all the feedback!

I opened CIC in Apr 2017 and CIP in July 2017. I booked the cruise directly with NCL because I was getting in on the reduced deposit thing ($150) but I would not have any problem with cancelling to rebook with Costo. We do not have a Costco membership yet but I’d love to have one. We booked an inside cabin and we are already wishing we booked a balcony. I did a quick comparison between Southwest and JetBlue this morning but for June of 2018 just to see the difference. Southwest was about $2600 RT for the three of us with a stop in Chicago. JetBlue was $2200 with no stop.

I’m very thankful for all the tips everyone contributed. I wrote them all down. I am so excited about this trip. How sweet it is to be able to cut the cost.

If you don't belong to Costco yet, you'll have to decide if you want a regular membership ($60) or an executive membership ($120). Last September, Costco started giving executive members 2% back on Travel purchases (previously it was only 2% on qualifying Costco purchases, excluding those made with the Travel department). So if your cruise will cost more than $3000, you'll do better with the executive membership.

ETA: I don't know how that would work with a transferred reservation though...

Finally finished with DH’s AMEX SPG Biz spend since I have the remainder scheduled once our GEICO payment hits on 6/15. So glad to be done so I can go back putting restaurants back on my CSR and can focus our other spend on the CIC MSR. I did go Staples and get Amazon and PF Chang’s gift cards yesterday since I knew we were going and are always ordering something off of Amazon. I think I am going to apply for the new CIU next. We don’t have CFU so that will help fill that gap.

@vanjust14 Got the date for my dh's spg biz clarified...June 24 not July 7...I had the old chat pulled up showing the july 7 date and asked why it was different. They could not give any answer for that. So, june 24th for me. Still need almost 2k!!!

You will be able to do family boarding btwn groups a and b, so it isn’t necessary, imo. But I board and head to the back of the plane anyways, plus we don’t want to spend extra time sitting on the plane. You’ll be able to get seats together just fine. Now, if you are departing mco, it can be crazy with all the family boarding, but we still always sit together just fine.

Same! Departing MCO, there are lots of families boarding but we have never had trouble sitting together. Might be time to have another babe just for family boarding privilege...lol...kidding, really... :)
