If time and transportation were sports we'd never make the playoffs; 2018 spr. break TR *new TR!*

I’m sorry to hear about rickys knee :guilty: it kind of reminds me of. Lot of famous people’s upbringing stories. They were athletes on the road to free ride college scholarship but a horrible injury happens so they end up finding another love they became successful at! Like acting or art or anything! Hopefully that’s the case with Ricky. Also, let me know what week you’ll be at WDW at thanksgiving time because I’ll be there the Saturday after for a week! Be great to have a DiS meet

Even though I knew of poor Ricky's troubles its still so hard to hear. Feel so bad for him, and you, and selfishly me cause I was so looking forward to our time together. Hang in there! And be sure to tell Ricky when he does his driving lessons to not listen to Steven's sense of directions :P

We returned from our quick May trip on 5/8 and shortly after got bad news; that night Ricky re-tore his ACL. It happens. It happens if you aren't as careful as you should be and do too much before you're strong enough. Ricky did more than shoot, he was doing drills and pivoted too quickly on it. We thought he possibly tore his meniscus which wouldn't have been ideal, never thought his ACL was torn again. This means another painful surgery, another long recovery, and worst of all no more school ball. Being out two years, no chance they'll take him as a senior. I cannot, cannot tell you how heartbreaking this is, to see him have to deal with this. What pushed him to move forward and work hard at recovery isn't there now. I know it isn't the end of the world and could be worse, and he does too. But to a teenager whose dreams are now crushed that doesn't matter, and honestly it doesn't matter to his mom, either.

I'm so sorry to hear about Ricky. I hope everything goes well with the second surgery, but I'm sorry that he has to go through that and lose out on something he loves doing. And I know it must be hard for you too

Except Steve and I disagreed somewhat on where exactly the buses were.......:sad2: I said they were where they are, which was NOT by House of Blues. Steve on the other hand believed them to be right over there by HOB and in that direction we went after a bit of light, gentle arguing :headache: I let him and Ricky walk ahead of me because whomever got there first was going to have a little farther to walk when we turned around to go the CORRECT way..........so we get over there to the wrong end and Steve starts questioning himself and looking at me; I shrug my shoulders back at him. He sees a CM standing there and asked her "which way to the buses?" and she points (with two fingers of course) past HOB, down a walkway past the Cirque building, and we do see a few people going that way. We see people going that way because that's where all the paid transportation goes, and the shuttles to non-Disney resorts :furious: Now I mamy not have known that but I did know this wasn't the way to the DISNEY buses, and Steve finally acknowledged that. So now in the drizzle with my son's leg hurting we had to walk all the way to the total opposite end of DS to get on our bus. Folks, I was very kind here in my description of how this played out, the facial expressions that we shot at each other and the words that were exchanged were not all G-rated! Anyway, I count this as both a #timeandtransportationfail.

That must be so annoying! When it's hot out or someone's tired even walking across DS seems so far. Sometimes Josh gets things with transportation wrong or tells me something is over somewhere I know it's not. It's always frustrating when he doesn't believe me at first, but it is satisfying to hear how I'm always right when it comes to Disney after we do things my way and they work out :rotfl: BTW last time we left DS we also ended up waiting forever for a bus it totally made us wish we called an Uber or something too.

Oh Ariane, I am so sorry to hear about Ricky’s knee! That really stinks especially since he was making such great progress. I am sure he is devastated since Basketball is such a passion of his. I will be sending positive wishes your way!

Sad we won’t get to meet in August, we have come close twice now, oh well one of these days!

We loved being there at Thanksgiving this past one so happy you all get to go then.

Ugh! Disney buses from DS are the worst. Take for ever and I am always standing it seems. Uber or Minnie Van would be worth it for sure.

Love, love the shirt you got. I didn’t see it in April. I love my HM tank from there, you have the same one. I wear it to work and no one looks at it close enough to see the grave yard scenes, which is good since I am visiting patients who are really old, lol!

Love the Dooney purse, from reading your reports, you have a nice collection of Disney DB’s.

I’ve been catching up on your latest report and just wanted to say I’m so so sorry about Ricky’s injury. I know he must be devastated, which would also be devastating for you as the awesome mom you are - it’s so hard to see our kiddos suffer. I’m glad for him that he has parents that can empathize with what he’s likely going through rather than minimizing the importance of the situation, which I think a lot of folks would be tempted to do.

I’m sorry about your August trip, but I’m looking forward to reading about another Thanksgiving trip. I love seeing the holiday decorations vicariously through y'all’s experiences. Great report so far!

I'm sorry to hear that Ricky has to go through surgery again and won't be returning to his favorite sport. That will be hard. :( At least he gets to have drivers ed and will be able to drive as scheduled. He has really handled it well.

It is too bad that you had to cancel the August trip. Thanksgiving will have nicer weather, if that is any conciliation.

We always lose the bus stop at DS, too. That place is confusing. I'm not crazy about the WL bus for DS because it shares with CR and gets very crowded with people going to MK.

We miss GP and the wonderful view. I wish we could have a nice open air restaurant on a lake around here, but we don't.

Hello! I am really enjoying your trip report. I read it all from start to here this morning! :goodvibes I'm currently in Disney-obsessed mode since our first trip in 2 years is coming up in July, so I've been all over these boards lately.

I was very sorry to read about Ricky's injuries and what that means for him. I can definitely empatihize with the emotions that brings you as a mom.

I hope you were able to have a fun Memorial Day BBQ. It's cloudy here in NC as well.

Looking forward to more of your report! :cheer2:

Becky

So sorry to hear about your son's knee injury. I hope that he will recover quickly. Sorry about him not being able to play basketball for his senior year.

Too bad about the August trip, but glad you are able to reschedule for Thanksgiving! DH and I are going at Thanksgiving this year (adults only again--much to the dismay of my son). We've never been at that time of year. Trying to fit in the Christmas party and a candlelight processional.

I already sent you a message about Ricky but again, I’m so sorry to hear.

I love that WL sweatshirt jacket and I think I may just look to purchase myself!

Beautiful purse. I still have not used either of my other two D&Bs. Crazy right? I want to switch to my DVC one for our trip and then my 45th for our Fall trip.

Men! Buses! Ugh!

I am so sorry to hear about Ricky! That is horrible. I can understand how hard that is for him. I hope the second surgery goes ok.

Love it! I am still holding out for the orange bird bag for my birthday or maybe christmas... We will see...

Except Steve and I disagreed somewhat on where exactly the buses were.......:sad2:
Oh no! Again! Didn't he learn yet?

ow I mamy not have known that but I did know this wasn't the way to the DISNEY buses, and Steve finally acknowledged that. So now in the drizzle with my son's leg hurting we had to walk all the way to the total opposite end of DS to get on our bus. This reminds me of our night when it was pouring rain and trying to find where we could meet the uber. I do find this a big pain the way you kind of have to trek across the area to get back to where you started.

We told Chris no, we would not bring him food back to the room, so he somehow managed to climb out of bed and join us by the water for a lovely dinner.
It's so hard being a teenage boy.

We eventually made it to Epcot and the rest of my travel party booked it to the "guests with no bags" line while I and 250,000 of my closest friends went to the "guests with bags" lines. I had never ever seen the lines for security this bad! They were about 4x longer than any lines we've seen during Thanksgiving, it was truly ridiculous.

I swear the Epcot lines are the absolute worst compared to the other parks. I really don't understand why they can't have more . :confused3

This is such a good picture!!!

We returned from our quick May trip on 5/8 and shortly after got bad news; that night Ricky re-tore his ACL. It happens. OHHH no!! I really hate to hear this and hate it for Ricky! I know y'all are all feeling his pain knowing how much he loves basketball. I know I haven't personally been there but I have seen it happen time and time again growing up playing sports. I know nothing you can say at the time will make it better for him but things work out for a reason. There was a girl that I played ball with for several years that had a season ending injury in the 9th grade, ACL in 11th and retore it again our senior year. She was with us every step of the way all of the seasons. She learned a lot more about the game on the sidelines sitting with the coaches and is now coaching for the school. I know it is heart breaking but I hope he sticks with his team as much as he loves basketball because you never know where it will lead!

The vacation we will not be able to take sadly is our August Disney trip, which sucks because I was going to be able to meet up with a few of my DIS friends. We just can't do his surgery after that and still have him feeling good enough by the time school starts. On a brighter note, we've rescheduled for Thanksgiving again. We do love going for the holiday and this will also mean we'll be away when basketball season starts at school. Eventually I'll post more details about that trip and eventually I'm sure I'll be more excited about it. Thank you for letting me write all this out, it was longer than I meant it to be but it actually made me feel better.

 I am starting to think any chance of you going to the Halloween Party is cursed from the get go. Bright side=better weather than August! Where are y'all going to stay???

Love this purse!!!

I am so so sorry to read about Ricky's new injury. I cannot imagine how hard that must have been for him...and all of you I'm sure. Sorry you had to cancel your August trip (and potential DISmeets) but on the BRIGHT side...I'll be there Thanksgiving week! :) Maybe we can finally meet up!

Your transportation fails make me extra extra thankful that we choose to rent a car for our trips. Every. Time. That doesn't mean we don't still utilize Disney transportation, including buses, sometimes but if it is a matter of a short time between our plans, I know we can happily get in a car and drive to where we need to be without an issue. The money spent this time around on our rental I'm sure will be well worth it to us, since we'll be able to land at the airport and get right into the rental and drive and on the return we can leave for the airport on our own time.

I am so sorry to hear about Ricky. We as parents want so much for our kids to be happy, and when you see something breaking their hearts, it is excruiating to watch. Sending prayers and pixie dust for a succesful surgery and quick uneventful recovery.

And enjoying your report!

I'm so sorry to hear about Ricky. That's really tough for a teen to go through. Oh, man :sad2:

Hi Ariane

I know I’m behind since we were away last week
I’m so sorry to hear about Ricky
I know how much he loves basketball and I also know what it’s like when your child is hurting and all you want to do is fix it.
Please keep us posted on his upcoming surgery and recovery.

On a lighter note I love your new bag!

I'm so sorry for Ricky. I'm sure that is so hard on him. Maybe it will force him to find a new hobby or activity. I'm glad he is taking it well. At that age, it can be difficult to understand.

First of all I want to sincerely thank all of you for your kind words and thoughts about Ricky as well as those of you who texted, I truly appreciate them and they really mean a lot to me. It's made me feel a little better every time I've come on the DIS and seen another post with words of support for him xoxo

My younger brother tore his ACL in high school as well. Then, a couple months later he tore his ACL AND his MCL in his OTHER knee. :crutches:He had to be homeschooled for a semester because his school was too big for him to get around.
Ugh, and I know how much that sucks. We were so SO sure he'd torn his meniscus this time and not retorn his ACL; he did say at least it's the same knee for whatever that's worth! And being homeschooled had to make it worse for your brother because besides less physical activity and being out of whatever sport he played (I assume he played a sport?) he had to spend even more time away from friends. Luckily they give kids on crutches/in wheelchairs keys for the elevator and let them leave class 5 minutes early to get to their next class before the hallways get crowded, and they'll let Ricky keep the key and use the elevator even after he's off crutches until he's comfortable not leaving class early. That part he milked for quite awhile this time...........

That's terrible! So sorry that happened and that Ricky won't be able to play ball next year. Praying for a successful recovery.
Thank you so much. We're hoping the recovery goes as well as it did this time (up to this point). He was strong going in and followed his recovery program to a T; as long as he does that this one should hopefully go smooth. They also don't have to drill into his knee this time because they can use the holes from the first surgery. I hate even thinking about this for my baby but, it is a positive thing. The drilling caused much of his pain afterward.

On a Disney note, I had to laugh at your description of Chris! Sounds very familiar to me with two very self-directed (cough, cough, stubborn) 16 year olds of my own! Like you, I find it works better to save my energy for things that really matter. So yes, they can chill out for a few hours on their own but family dinner is family (all of us).
:sad2: He's my "problem child"! But you've hit it right on the head, I save my energy to fight battles that matter more. He's old enough to stay in the room alone now so it was worth it as we did end up having an enjoyable dinner later. I'm "picking my battles" with him every &$@** day though lol!

Love your purchases!! I am trying to think of what I want my next Dooney to be. I am thinking of a resale, vintage print like Balloons or maybe the Bambi bag if it is still around anywhere.
It's funny, sometimes I'll see a Dooney that's released and think I want it, but then I get down there and either don't like it as much or see one I've never come across before and decide that's the one I want :) I do love the Bambi one!

I, unfortunately, see this in a lot of our younger patients who share the same passion about a certain sport and it's taken away from them so soon because of injuries. Those darn knees are so tricky.
After Ricky tore it last fall, we ended up meeting and hearing about so many kids who've done this. In fact one of the 3 people who recommended Ricky's surgeon to us has 4 boys who play/played football for a neighboring high school and ALL 4 OF THEM have torn an ACL plus some! More common than you think unfortunately. I knew virtually nothing about this injury until it happened to Ricky; have to say I wish I still didn't :(

I love the WL sweatshirt and your tank top! Those are great!
:thanks: I love telling people WL is my favorite resort! Almost wore the tank top yesterday; I bought it for August but since we aren't going I'm just going to start wearing it now :)

Also, let me know what week you’ll be at WDW at thanksgiving time because I’ll be there the Saturday after for a week! Be great to have a DiS meet
As of now we'll arrive the 17th and are staying until at least the Sunday after, if not Monday. So unless it changes and we leave the day you come, we'll work on a meet :thumbsup2 I'm sure we'll end up getting our tickets before I finish this TR and I'll post it here with our definite days, because in case you haven't noticed I don't finish these things up too quick

Even though I knew of poor Ricky's troubles its still so hard to hear.
:hug::hug:

Feel so bad for him, and you, and selfishly me cause I was so looking forward to our time together.
Believe me so was I, and Steve too :( All it means is your TA needs to keep bombarding you with great rates when they come out and book you a trip when she's going down ;)

And be sure to tell Ricky when he does his driving lessons to not listen to Steven's sense of directions :P
:rotfl2: I haven't taken him out yet and actually, experienced him driving for the first time last night. All 4 of us were in the car; I was in the front passenger seat and Steve & Chris were in back. He did good! Needs to work on his turns a bit :scared1: But OMG Backseat Driver Steve! I told Ricky he might be better off with me, they just kept going at it! But Ricky said that's what they do lol

The vacation we will not be able to take sadly is our August Disney trip, which sucks because I was going to be able to meet up with a few of my DIS friends. We just can't do his surgery after that and still have him feeling good enough by the time school starts.
Sorry to hear about Ricky's injury. It must be hard for him to have to give up something he enjoys. Hopefully he can find something else to fill the void. It sounds like he has a positive attitude about it. As much as you can have, anyway.
Like Kari, I'm selfishly disappointed you won't be there in August. I was hoping we could meet up. (I totally wanted to tell Steve how much I like that Grumpy shirt :p). But family comes first and that's the most important thing. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Ricky.
You'll have to read about it in my trip report :)

t was now mid afternoon and the plan was to do some shopping in DS before a 6:30 ADR we had at House of Blues.
House of Blues. Man, that's another one I was thinking to try! Just too many good options. I'll stick with Homecomin, but wish I had a few weeks and a bigger bank account!

We went in Amorettes but instead I chose to get something from the Ganachery for the first time and I was not disappointed!
Another two places I need to check out. I've read the Ganachery has a house-made s'more that's very good.

Now I mamy not have known that but I did know this wasn't the way to the DISNEY buses, and Steve finally acknowledged that.
Transportation fail? Ariane, hold my beer.

So, way back in 2010 my family (including my parents - 6 of us) were in the World. This was my 2nd trip after DW and I went in 2008 - stayed off site and rented a car (that's important to the story). In 2010, we stayed at CBR, on site for the first time. We took the Disney bus (for the first time) to Epcot our first morning (see, there are a lot of firsts - also important to the story), we had an ADR for the Akershus princess breakfast - wanted to start off with a surprise for the girls. Being our first day, we also wanted to go to MK, so took the monorail over. We had a great day and I was very proud of myself for planning it, being the Disney expert after being there a whole one time before. Keep in mind, this is before I was on Disboards and didn't stalk Disney news on the internet and freak out when I find out things like changing the carrot cake cookie. Anyway, when it came to the end of the night we were tired and right after the fireworks (because that's the best time to leave if you want to avoid crowds exiting :rolleyes1), Mr. Disney Expert (me) says to get the get the bus back to CBR, we first need to take the monorail or ferry to TTC (again, that was the only way I had experienced arriving at MK before when I stayed offsite. Even when my lovely wife said "but don't the signs for the buses point left?" I said "no, you have to go to the TTC first. That's how Walt wanted it", so off we went in a massive monorail line. Eventually we get to the TTC and start looking around for CBR bus signs. Hmm..that's strange...there are none. At this point, I suspect the facial expressions between my wife and i were likely somewhat similar to your's and Steve's. I found a nice CM who went up to an empty bus and said "we have another one" - so clearly I was not the only "expert" confused that night. They were nice enough to give us a private coach ride to CBR (at least the private ride is how I tried to play it up to everyone to smooth it over - didn't really work).

So there, that's my transportation fail. I think about it every time I leave MK and take that short walk left to the buses....

30 minutes later and quite a few "where are you I'm hungry" texts from Chris, we were on a bus with the extremely unhappy people who had now been waiting an hour. I don't know why we didn't call a Minnie Van, if I didn't say this already we used those vans like 7x on our 3 night trip earlier this month and even at $25 a pop plus tip, it's some of the best $$ we spent and we will continue to spend.
I'm really thinking about rental a car in August, eventhough we're staying on site. I shouldn't spend the money, but just for the convenience, it may be worth it.

He was doing real well; finished PT back in March and after this trip, started a sports rehabilitation program. He was hoping to be cleared in another few months, and since he was running (with clearance) and shooting he would do some of the basketball summer program at the school.

Oh no so sorry to hear this. I know how much basketball means to him. The good news is that hopefully this time he knows to properly recover and rest and not just jump back into things. It's a good lesson learned for life in any case, but sad to hear he is so crushed.

So nice, touching, and to me, sad. Oh and he's in the picture on top with the varsity team, on the end in his gray varsity track suit :) So to end this real life and sad life part of my update, we've scheduled his surgery for July 20th. This will allow him to do Driver's Ed over the summer which in NY means he'll get his senior driver's license at 17 instead of 18; if he doesn't, then he can only drive until 9pm until he's 18. Waiting until 7/20 also gives him at least part of the summer to be mobile and hang out with friends, and we can go on one of our vacations which is just a one night trip to Hershey, PA to meet up with my sister and her boys.

Very touching to see that in the yearbook! Sports teams are like families and Ricky is part of the family now!

Thank you for letting me write all this out, it was longer than I meant it to be but it actually made me feel better.

Aww sorry you had to cancel, but sounds like great plans for Thanksgiving! And it definitely gives Ricky some much needed time to heal. Plenty of time for Disney when he is well!

Gorgeous! Reminds of the princess bag I picked up when I ran the Princess 5k. I don't use mine much either as I think it's just a tad too small but I love looking at it!

Except Steve and I disagreed somewhat on where exactly the buses were.......:sad2: I said they were where they are, which was NOT by House of Blues. Oh no! The woes of Disney transportation...well, I guess now you know exactly where the buses are!
Hope your next trip is better for you transportation-wise!

I love it!! I may have to look for one!
