Anthem of the Seas

Hi! We are 6 retirees going on Anthem September 12th 2019 for the 9 day Canada and New England cruise. We went on Harmony in April and Allure before that so I was familiar with Port Everglades (I am the planner!) I would love more information about where to stay the night before, drive(5hours)or fly? Drink package on HOTS started at $55 plus 18%. We ended up getting it on a Thanksgiving sale for $43+18%. On our cruise planner it says $48+ 18%. My question is: is $48 the normal max for AOTS? We aren’t big drinkers but we enjoyed the convenience of the package and drank more with friends, warm temps and fewer ports! Has anyone done this itinerary with the drink package? What about excursions? Don’t miss or don’t waste our time. We have balconies on the port side/aft-8th deck. I am so thankful to the disboards- I was able to plan 2 perfect trips to Disney World (our family from 4-82-16 pl!) and 1 cruise with friends! The information here is so valuable to planning! So TIA- I will be waiting..........:)

8110 was very large. No pole in the middle. We would definitely request it for a future cruise. In fact, we would request those two rooms together again. 8110 and 8108 are both off of a little hallway with a door that is only accessible to the people in those rooms with their room keys. Since we had both rooms, we simply left our individual room doors open and it was like having a two room suite. Just a tip for those with larger families. If you look at the deck plans you can see what I mean about those two rooms being off of the main hallway by the smaller hallway. Each of those rooms sleeps 3. We had 6 in our party.
We have a similar set up of rooms with the hallway, for our cruise next June, do the interior doors stay open on their own or do we need to ask for door stops?

Thanks @Frozen2014 for starting this thread. We’ve been sailing Disney since 2011, added in Carnival in 2016 and are now trying RCCL in 2019. I feel so lost on figuring it all out but this thread has helped a lot. Thanks again!

Ask away. That's what these forms are for. Very helpful. We've been on a couple Royal ships but never Anthem which seems different.
Enjoy your cruise. 2019 will be here before you know it.

We didn't get the drink package, but there are always sales happening in the cruise planner. My advice would be to book now, and if you see a lower price, you can cancel and rebuy. Unfortunately it takes a couple days for the refund to come through, but it will. We didn't do the Canada/New England itinerary, so I'm no help on excursions. You may want to check Cruise Critic.

We drove from Ontario (near Niagara Falls). I wouldn't recommend the hotel we stayed at, so I won't mention it. Staying over allowed us to arrive fairly early at the cruise port which worked out well for us.

The least expensive I've seen the package is $42-43 plus gratuity. They're doing a sale this weekend, so you can check again.
I've been trying to look out for discounts on the photo package but haven't had any luck with that. We sail in October to the Bahamas.

??? only been on DCL twice on the Dream. We will now try RCL. DCL just getting to rich for us.

I am confused on what is free and what isn't . We don't drink and only I will have a soda maybe. I am water and coffee and she is tea. Would I need a drink package?
What food is free? Is there free food down in the promenade?

It is basically the same as DCL. The only difference is soda is not free. You still get free coffee, tea, water, flavored water, iced tea, lemonade. For food, you only pay at the specialty restaurants and a few others (Johnny Rockets). There is plenty of free food around just like DCL.

thanks Denise, now if I could find someone who had a cabin on Adventure of the sea on deck 12 I would be happy

RCCL also includes milk as one of the free drinks, too.

The website is pretty bad, but I have been able to make dining reservations, show reservations, and excursions. From what I have read, there is no set time frame for booking anything. I follow my roll call thread closely and when someone posts that something has opened, I go to my cruise planner and check it out. You do not need to be paid in full to book things. I have 4 cruises planned for the next 6 months, and each one has had different time frames to book things.

Typically, show reservations for the ships that require them (Quantum and Oasis class) become available 120-90 days before sailing followed by the other activities, and I can attest that this just happened for my Nov Anthem sailing as the shows came on about 120 days and then followed by IFly and Northstar about a week later. Still checking daily for the Escape Room.
