I got the same thing I always get:

12 oz Filet Mignon with Bernaise sauce

That is probably what I will order too!

Potato Gratin-Garlic Cream Reduction Topped with Panko Parmesan Crust

zSVDBeal.jpg

I was actually very disappointed this time although the other time I got it was at a different Shula's. It was very dry, and not cheesy at all. It's a huge portion so it felt like such a waste, but I didn't eat more than a few spoonfuls. But that was really the only disappointment I've had in all the times we've dined there, and the side dishes are really second fiddle compared to the steaks anyway.
So, note to self - skip the Potato Gratin. But I'm not a big fan of that anyways (I prefer mashed potatoes)

So when an employee came up and reached towards the table I told him he wasn't done yet, and the guy looked at me and goes "I'm just here to fold the napkin". I don't know why, but the way he said it was just hilarious to me, coupled with the fact that it was such a strange thing to do in the middle of the meal so I had to try not to laugh as he folded the napkin into a triangle.
That is pretty hilarious! I've never seen servers fold up napkins mid-meal! I think I want to research how to fold fancy napkins so in December whenever Josh leaves the table we can surprise him!

Chocolate Souffle with Creme Anglaise, Vanilla ice cream (and I think the other thing was whipped cream)

Mmm mmm mmm!

Also sorry @Lesley Wake for making you want chocolate souffles constantly :rotfl:
Oh no worries! I make souffles every once in a while - they are actually pretty easy if you have the right tools (mixer, ramekins, double boiler or metal pot you can put over a pan of boiling water)! And my mom was very happy to get one too! Though Lauren wasn't home, so she was disappointed she didn't get one, and now I "have" to make them again when she's here!

Although he didn't really pay attention to the baked potato :rotfl: and I think he only had a few bites. I tried a little, and it was indeed a baked potato.

:rotfl:

Bahaha this is so strange and funny!

This was my "birthday dinner" so it was one of the only places I wore my button, and they wrote Happy Birthday on the plate which I thought was cute, and the dessert was complimentary. It was very sweet. I even got to blow out some little candles.

That's so cute! I love the little touch writing Happy Birthday for you. Looks yummy :)

Your meals at Shula's looked so delicious! (Aside from the sides, maybe.) I still haven't found a time to squeeze this into one of our trips yet. But I really think that the next trip I plan I'll have to make a point to.

The mashed potatoes were really flavorful, they were probably the best potato side we've had there.

We should :rotfl:

I would definitely recommend going! We haven't tried all the sides, but most of them aren't bad they just don't really stand out compared to the steaks, and Josh always orders them then only pays attention to the steak :rotfl:

We're not big fans of the QS options in MK.

Me either! It's almost as bad as DHS, honestly!

This LOOKS really good. Hate it when looks are deceiving with food

Drooling! and that Coco guitar is adorable!

Perfect backdrop! A+ suggestion Josh!

Gotta love that portrait mode! This came out perfectly

He made sure to finish all of this :rotfl: which is why he didn't want to snack earlier.

Sounds just like my brother haha

What?! This is so bizarre, I've never heard of someone folding the napkin in the middle of a meal :rotfl2:

Yes! DHS doesn't really have any good options in it either. Although I want try Woody's Lunchbox next time.

:thumbsup2

Yes! I love how it came out!

I haven't either :rotfl: guess I'm not very fancy.

Your Shula's Steaks look amazing especially now that I know someone can fold my napkin mid-email for me :-). Thanks to you I signed up for the birthday deal, so I think we may try it next month. Not to be too much of a spoiler but how did it compare to Yachtsman???

:rotfl:

I would definitely say go for it! I liked the steaks better than the ones at Yachtsman. It was close, but I liked the one at Shula's more, and the the taste of the sauce. However I definitely liked the bread better at Yachtsman and the sides but typically I like the ones at Shula's too.

We settled on Shula's for our official anniversary dinner. We've never been so I'm excited to try it. Your review makes it even more appealing!

Yay! I'm so excited for you to try it!

I've actually heard this buffet was better than Boma, but I didn't think that was true.
Sacrilege -- what could ever best Boma?!

I wanted to try the Wave's breakfast buffet from reading a bunch of good blogger reviews, too -- in particular I was curious about the key lime eggs benedict (which has possibly changed, from what I see of their a la carte menu?). We canceled a breakfast reservation for the Wave on a previous trip and after reading this, I don't really feel the need to try it anymore. Everything sure looked and sounded good, though!

The Wave is fine if you're staying at the Contemporary or whatever the heck the DVC side is called. I rented points last year to do the DVC and my family and I walked over one morning for the breakfast buffet. It's not something I would go out of my way to get to because there are so many other places that are much better. I think a lot of places open to rave reviews then over time they sit back and try to skate on that reputation without doing anything to maintain it. It's disappointing. Glad you got to try it for yourself.

Great reviews so far. I have been debating trying this breakfast but after reading this, I don't think it's worth the trip.

Did you notice a weird smell to The Wave???? I know this is crazy. but back in March and June, the place smelled kind of funky...o_O

Sorry The Wave was a bit of a bust for you. Maybe the time did make a difference, because when we've been there its been bustling and they are turning everything over pretty quick. And you are right that is part of the reason why I like it so much, because food didn't sit too long like other buffets. If that wasn't happening I can totally see why it wasn't a good experience.

We had the same experience at dinner time, but not at breakfast. #odd

Good review about The Wave! I'm glad to see this, because we're trying this in August. I'm still torn between the buffet and just ordering something, but I'm hopeful that if they're bringing me some buffet items from the kitchen because of allergies anyway, that they might be a little fresher than some of what was out there when you went. P.S. I've heard that if you send an email to the special diets people in advance, that they can do the sweet potato pancakes gluten free! I'm going to test that theory out and report back after our August trip. :)

Yogurt parfaits:
These were my favorite part of the buffet! I had 3 lol. I'm so sorry you didn't enjoy it, I think this is 2 places I've raved about that you didn't end up liking (here and TE). We did find everything to be very fresh and I think our reservation was 11:00? I was debating going back there in Nov. but of course haven't finished working out our dining, so maybe we'll end up there.

I've actually heard this buffet was better than Boma
Um NO. We were extremely happy with the Wave buffet but Boma is most definitely the best breakfast buffet on property!

I do hope you guys like it; Steve and I really enjoyed it-we both did the buffet. I'm hoping Raeven just hit an off day :)

We went at opening and really enjoyed the buffet

I would love to try Boma for breakfast one of these trips, we had dinner there once.

The sweet potato pancakes were so delicious, glad you liked those!

Josh doesn't like things that taste pumpkin-y so it wouldn't have bothered him not to have them even if he had the buffet.

:rotfl: This made me laugh! I'm unashamedly a pumpkin spice lover, and I'm into all foods that have that warm autumn taste, so sweet potatoes, pumpkins, etc., are my jam.

I didn't really find the buffet to be as fresh and quickly replenished as I've heard. I don't know if it was because we were having a late breakfast, but I wasn't the only person at the buffet so I did feel like they should've been paying attention to the items on the buffet. No matter what time you eat they should still be replenishing items and not letting them sit too long. Some things were near empty or looked/tasted like they had been sitting for awhile.

Oh too bad, we had a great breakfast here last year with Billie and Cinderkelly. Our food was definitely fresh tasting and looked to be newly set out but we were definitely there early in the day (8am). All buffet food will taste bad when left out for a while no matter how good they tasted when fresh!

In answer to the question in the post title I'd say I still think Boma is the best breakfast buffet. I've actually heard this buffet was better than Boma from some, but I didn't think that was true. I'm not really interested in going back to The Wave, but I definitely want to go back to Boma sometime soon!

I do love Boma for breakfast and I'd pick Boma over the Wave too. I'd go back to the wave if I stayed at the Contemporary again or another Monorail resort.
