CONFIRMED - Illuminations replacement

We took an Illuminations Cruise a couple of weeks ago with another DIS family. I asked our captain (who's been working at the YC marina for a decade and a CM for like 25 years) about this and he said it's true and they've already been testing the new show. @MrInfinity , do you remember what he said the timeline was? Was it the end of this year?
We didn't ask specifically the timeline, but we did discuss that the next time we came would be next fall so this would be the last time we would see Illuminations.
No offense but a boat captain isn't going to know much about a possible new show.
People love to discredit boat captains and bus drivers, but wdwinfo is making posts on it...

So our driver definitely knew a lot about a possible new show, and this was 30 days before any public info like this.

That article which is info from the Orlando Sentinel has nothing to do with a boat captain. Reedy Creek has approved nearly $2 million in electrical upgrades to the lagoon. It’s been rumored for well over a year now that a new illuminations show is coming. As of right now no new pyro has been tested at Epcot.

The thought of Illuminations ending is sad. I can only hope that if it's true that whatever replaces it:

1. Is as emotionally evocative.
2. Has as strong a message (which I frankly think gets lost on a lot of guests, but maybe I'm being a snob).
3. Is as crisp, with every step as perfectly timed and executed.
4. Has a cool LED globe that floats (though I'd love to find the existing one on ebay and put it in my front yard--torch to be lit on special occasions).

I remember the Tapestry of Nations parade and while I loved the theme, it seemed like every. single. time. we were in the WS the parade was going on. Trying to get around those crowds with the narrow spaces to get to dinner was a nightmare, although my family will have the song burned into their brain forever. El La Oh Oh Oh El La......

Can't imagine a parade in the WS now with the crowds. Interesting article, thank you for posting the link!

My family STILL jokes about about how many times we had to view the tapestry of nations parade that year! haha it's still one of my favorites, though...

We loved the catchy song, but a major reason was because we have a daughter Ada. You can trick your brain into thinking the "El La" in the song sounds like her name.

We still refer to it as "the Ada song" and enjoy hearing it by the fountain as cast members wave us good night as we leave the park following Illuminations.

I wondered if Illuminations was going to be under referb next month when we are there...after the electrical upgrade announcement and also no Frozen Ever After Dessert party listed in September. Every time I have contacted Disney about the party, they say "wait for openings" but nobody seems to know "if" it will be held.

There is no refurb scheduled at this time.

Work Set to Begin on Rumored Replacement for IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth

Could the buzz around a drone-type show be starting to take shape?

We have had rumors here for a while that Illuminations is due to be replaced. Multiple insiders have suggested heavily that folks see Illuminations soon, as it could shut down by early next year, and that there could be an interim show prior to the final replacement.

After nearly 20 years of delighting Epcot guests through music, fireworks, fire torches and more, we wanted to let you know that “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” will be ending in the second half of next year. The Disney Parks Live Entertainment team is already busy creating new thrills to debut immediately following the conclusion of “IllumiNations,” continuing the tradition of nightly entertainment on the World Showcase Lagoon.

“IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth,” which is currently planned to run to the end of summer 2019, has entertained millions of guests gathered around World Showcase Lagoon sharing the light and a story since it debuted in October 1999 as part of the Walt Disney World Millennium Celebration. During the coming year, we’ll be celebrating this classic show, so you still have plenty of time to experience it again and again, as excitement builds for what’s next.

As regular readers know, we’ve got big plans for our multi-year transformation of Epcot, with new experiences that will “Wow!” guests while keeping true to the original vision of the park. And the all-new nighttime fireworks spectacular coming to Epcot’s World Showcase Lagoon will be part of the park’s exciting evolution.

The new show joins several previously announced experiences coming to Epcot, including the highly-anticipated “Guardians of the Galaxy” roller coaster attraction, a “Ratatouille”-inspired attraction in World Showcase, a new table-service restaurant adjacent to Mission: SPACE and much more!

Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for updates on the new nighttime spectacular and everything else coming to Epcot, and share your favorite memories of “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth” with us in the comments.

I'm so glad I get to see it during it's last days when I'm there in June 2019. IllumiNations gives me "the feels" like no other nighttime show for some reason. I'll miss it, but I'm looking forward to the replacement in future trips.

"We’re gathered here tonight, around the fire — as people of all lands have gathered for thousands and thousands of years before us — to share the light, and to share a story. An amazing story as old as time itself, but still being written. And though each of us has our own individual stories to tell, a true adventure emerges when we bring them all together as one. We hope you enjoy our story tonight: Reflections of Earth."

(Blows out the lights.)

Don’t make me cry...

Sad.
But hey what happened to the amazingly accurate inside source that in new it was coming in September 2018?

I’d cut the source some slack. It’s probable his information was accurate, but the timeline changed. WDW hasn’t seen this much stuff going on since the late 1980s/early 1990s expansion, so it’s not entirely surprising that some things will be pushed forward, pushed backed or outright scrapped.

Not gonna lie, this hurts. I know that people either love or hate this show, but my DH and I are on the love side! We constantly play the soundtrack throughout the whole house.

I can only hope that the new show keeps the same meaning of unity, togetherness, and the peoples of the world. A pretty similar soundtrack would be epically awesome as well.

I now how to swallow my pride and tell my DH he was right about making sure to see it twice in our upcoming trip...
