Dining Wars: Drinking's Edge - An August 2018 Dining Report - Updated 2/18: Completed

YES! We should try and make that happen. It would be perfect, the girls won't mind sitting if they have a new friend to hang with!
I'm sure the 3 of them could entertain each other for hours :-)

I will PM you my sisters reciepe. She gave it to me on a recipe card and called it "Jenny Surprise" So that is what the girls call it. I am sure there are many variations of it.
Thanks!!! Sounds like something Case would love.

I’m doin’ it! I’ll report back here after I’ve sampled a few of the cocktails
Can't wait to hear all about it!

So pleased i have found your report before you finished it.

I love reading your report. They always make me smile and give me great suggestions for our next visit.

Sorry your years been tough.
Thanks so much. Good news is I've barely started and seem to be moving at tortoise like speeds so it should be 2020 before I finish :-)

not to crash in on your fabulous dining TR, but I BOOKED FEBRUARY 2019!!! Woot! Woot!! :cool1::cool1:

I had enough SW miles to get 4 nights FREE @ the Swan AND 2 free flights - so DH and I are leaving the kids at home and going for an adult only trip!!

We're doing all of the restaurants in Disney Springs that we've wanted to try but didn't want to on our last trip with the kids..

Chef Art Smith's Homecomin', Morimoto, Boathouse, Bluezoo (for dinners) and Sci-Fi for lunch and Ale & Compass for a brunch....so freakin excited about the food and drinks!!
:drinking1popcorn::

Ok, back to you!!!

Crash away, that is awesome news!!!!!!!!!!! Even better that you got free hotel and flights!!!! We usually have enough points to cover flights but not hotel.

Your food choices of course sound amazing. We'd planned on an appetizer crawl to all 3 of those at DS on our last trip but the weather did not cooperate. We ended up at Jiko instead. #DisneyProblems

When are you all going? We'll be there at the end of February.

I just spit water all over my keyboard! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

:P I hear fluffy is good for cleaning that up

We'll be there Feb. 15-19th and have no idea how to deal with not sweating our fannies off while at Disney!! I am totally confused on how to dress for dinner and during the day..

first world problems, right? :rolleyes2

We ate at Raglan Road during our 2016 trip but it POURED when we got there so we didn't get to walk around too much and I think Morimoto had just opened but I'm not sure of the other ones DH and I are trying...

We'll be rolling in right behind you on the 21st. Bad news is February weather is hard to plan for. We've been a few times now and were bundled in winter jackets once and shorts another time. Largely you just need an extra layer in the morning and evening and then can be in "summer" gear the rest of the time. Though it is glorious to experience Florida with no humidity

well, at least flying Southwest, DH and I get 2 bags each so I can bring lots of clothing options!!!

:thumbsup2

Episode 2: KFC in the Kingdom

Bellies full and vacation tipsiness started we decided to brave the scariest ride in Animal Kingdom.

The terror was real!

From there we tackled a tamer beast: The Yeti

We thought Casey would want to ride with D or J but she chose me because I’ve “taken Mama classes and can keep her safe.” If only this poor child knew I am clearly operating without a license.

We then monkey’d around the park a bit...

...took in a safari and introduced J and D to the wonders that are Pandora: The World of Avatar (as Jason insists call it) and more importantly Flight of Passage. Not surprisingly they loved it and I think a little bit of Disney magic was growing J’s Grinch heart.

After such a harrowing journey more drinks were in order and what do ya know Pongo Pongo was right there.

The boys got the Mo'ara High Country Ale and us girls went with the Mo’ara Margarita. The margarita is Tequila with Strawberry and Blood Orange flavors topped with Strawberry Boba Balls and I did not like it at all. Sweet and frozen drinks are generally not my jam and this was sweet on sweet on sweet with some frozen topped with cheap tequila. No beuno Pandora: The World of Avatar. No bueno.

But of course I finished it anyway.

Sweet and frozen is however Casey’s vibe as she loved what appeared to be the non alcoholic version of my margarita.

We were able to pick up a 4th fast pass for Casey’s favorite Dinosaur and no sooner had our vehicle taken off than the woman sitting next to J decided she didn’t want to ride and tried to jump off. Jump off!!!! Well this somehow shut down the whole – dang – ride – and she proceeded to cry hysterically that she didn’t mean to do it. The ride never came back up and we were “evacuated” the whole 2 feet back to the entrance.

Scary Stuff!

The gang rode Primeval Whirl instead but not wanting to whirl I sat this one out.
At this point it was after 6 and we’d been up for 15 hours. Not wanting to chance Ariane's (aka @ariane37) favorite Boardwalk Pizza Window we decided to use our Landry’s card and eat at one of our favorites Yak n Yeti.

Poor Casey was fading fast

So we placated her with a $9 panda cup filled with 32oz of pure sugar.

Clearly no licensed Mama would do this :-)

And we placated ourselves with the adult version of a panda cup: Hops and Barley.

That’s a Jai Lai for J and Kirin Ichibans for the rest of us.

We decided to split several items again instead of getting individual entrees.
First up we have the Pork Egg Rolls with a chili plum dipping sauce.

I’m a sucker for a good egg roll and these were hot and crispy with just the right amount of pork filling. I highly recommend them.

We also go the Dim Sum Basket with Pork pot stickers, shrimp siu mai, cha su bao and pork siu mai steamed with soy lime dipping sauce.

I loved the lime dipping sauce and the undertones of star anise in it but unfortunately the dumplings were all rather blah. Don’t get me wrong they were fine and all, but most had more dim (dough) than sum (filling) so the balance was a bit off.

We also tried their Korean Fried Chicken and Waffles from the specials menu.

These are Hand Battered Chicken, Buttermilk Waffle, Gochujang Maple Syrup and Kimchi Slaw. We are lucky enough to have a few KFC’s (Korean Fried Chicken) joints near our house and while the chicken was crispy and well cooked it was missing the thick batter and most importantly heat that KFC is known for. While Korean Colonel Sanders would have been disappointed, the waffle was seriously on point and with the addition of some sriracha it all went together nicely.

And of course it wouldn’t be a trip to Yak and Yeti without one of my favorite foods in all of WDW: Ahi Tuna Nachos!!

I’ll spare you the adjectives since I’ve oohed and ahhed over this for years but just take it from me these are CrunchySpicyTunaWontonPerfection (trademark pending)

This was yet another successful trip to Yak n Yeti. We’ve found appetizers are where they really shine and you can’t beat being able to walk in without a reservation and getting seated right away thanks to the almighty Landry’s Card. They don’t take Tables in Wonderland, but I did have a birthday Landry’s reward so we saved $25.

Success!

At this point we were exhausted but we stopped for one last photo to commemorate J and D actually being in Disney World and the earth not simultaneously combusting.

Once we got back to the hotel I put Casey to bed and unpacked while t
he rest of the gang went down to Abracadabra to have a few more drinks (clearly Jason did not get the its my birthday memo). They received a citation by the Disney Dining Review Police for not taking photos, but they eventually sauntered back up and we enjoyed a night cap in J and D’s room.

Up next.....Drinking to the Magic Kingdom's Edge (aka I got one lousy beer)

But it's my favorite margarita in the World! Then again I like the sweetness (NOT the boba balls) but I don't think it's overly sweet.

Sweet and frozen is however Casey’s vibe as she loved what appeared to be the non alcoholic version of my margarita.
Totally think this is sweeter than the margarita!

:confused3 WTH??? How old was she? Had she never been on a ride before and didn't know you don't jump off of one that's moving? What an a@@, the rest of her family must have been embarrassed too. My boys would walk 12 feet in front of me the rest of the trip if I did that lol

VERY wise choice :thumbsup2 Avoid the inedible :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Protect yourself form barfing :crazy2: I was reading a thread here a couple weeks ago and someone asked for the "best" pizza in the world; someone else suggest the BW window. I knew they had to be high when they ate there so I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt but I couldn't help myself from commenting that, if the OP decided to eat there, it would be the biggest mistake they'd make all year.

I'm definitely getting the Landry's card before we go next month! Chris wants to eat at Rainforest, the rest of us want Y&Y (wonder where we'll end up lol?) and I've been meaning to get it for awhile. On my extremely long list of things to do.

Good day in AK, so glad D & J enjoyed it and a nice way to end the evening :drinking1

This is hilarous!

It is sweet, but I still love it.

That is even more sweet than the margarita! My girls love it as well.

What?!?! Some people really just don't think, ever.

Clearly no licensed Mama would do this :-)
No but the fun mamas do!

This looks good!

I really don't know why I didn't order this when we were there. Next time!

Totally think this is sweeter than the margarita!
I agree!!!!

Oh my goodness on the woman jumping off Dinosaur. :scared: I’d be mortified if I ruined the ride for everyone. Yak and Yeti and Abracadabar are on my list for my next trip!

From there we tackled a tamer beast: The Yeti
:rotfl: This one is a keeper for sure!!!

If only this poor child knew I am clearly operating without a license.
What's the legal limit for avoiding a YUI, anyway? (Yeti-ing Under the Influence)

The margarita is Tequila with Strawberry and Blood Orange flavors topped with Strawberry Boba Balls and I did not like it at all.
:scared1:

WHAAAAT

But of course I finished it anyway.
Oh okay, that's more like it! I actually like the Moara margarita and I'm not usually a fan of frozen mixed drinks at the parks, but this one is okay to me, probably because strawberry margaritas take me right back to college. Last time I made the mistake of opting for the spiked version of Casey's night blossom and it was :crazy2::crazy2::crazy2: YUCK
(don't worry, I too finished my gross drink)

They received a citation by the Disney Dining Review Police for not taking photos
"officer I swear I am not impersonating law enforcement, here's my DisBoards badge... what? Mothering without a license? alright when's my court date?"

Yak and Yeti looks delicious as always. I was eyeballing that chicken and waffle too, but ironically I thought the waffle wouldn't be any good! Never disappoints!!!

Oh how i love the ahi tuna nancho! Worth the visit just for these. Loving your report and keeping note of Cocktail to tick off next summer

I would really like to try Yak and Yeti. unfortunately I'm the only one in my clan who likes Asian food. I suppose there are other things on the menu that they may try. I will have to keep it in mind as a possibility in the future.

Yep, whatever you have to do to keep the smiles is 100% worth the inflated Disney LOVE!!!!

Ummm, just had these last week and I couldn't agree with you more!!!!

clearly Jason did not get the its my birthday memo

We will make up for this little mishap in May...:drinking1

What is wrong with people?! I would’ve been so annoyed! :sad2::sad2::sad2:

Always a good choice to take out that Landry card and spend some time at Yak and Yeti! All your food looks so yummy. Andi had the chicken and waffles and her chicken was so delicious. Those ahi tuna nachos look really good, still on my wish list, maybe one of these days.

I can’t believe some lady tried to jump off Dinosaur, yikes, I love this ride and would never do that!

She shut down the whole ride. :sad2: There is a protocol here, folks! Glad she didn't get hurt bailing, though. Sorry Casey didn't get to ride it!
