Some disturbing Disney pricing info

Just because you don't feel that way and don't know people who feel that way doesn't mean it doesn't work. You are splitting hairs and looking for things to pick at because you want to pick on the people who have a different opinion than yours.

ETA: There are entire YACHT clubs for people who do feel that way about yachts and yachting
I grew up in So Cal. My parents always had a boat. I have to say my dad was very emotionally attached to boating. Maybe not one boat in particular because he built a sailboat, then bought 28 foot motor boat and then a 50 foot yacht.
One thing my dad never did was go to Disneyland with us. He would never ever set foot in that place. Although I will never be able to afford a boat. His love for the ocean was certainly passed on to me. Cruising will always be my number one vacation.
People do have emotional attachment to a variety of things.

Sure, because people are not rational about the things they love.

Imagine boating started to cost more & more. Your Dad might complain about gas prices, marina fees (whatever - I know zero about boating), but he’d probably still own a boat, right?

So what would be the point of making him feel “less than” by continually pointing out that by participating in boating he is part of the problem. Just let him vent and move on. Which brings us back to “Who cares?!?”

The analogy presented by the PP lacked context that she tried to add in after the fact. Originally stated the yacht was simply a luxury purchase & it was in no way implied that the yacht was indicative of a love of all things boat related. The OP here is invested in Disney as a lifestyle, so to speak.

I may make a few people made when I say this, but I feel it has to be said...

A Disney vacation to me is about my family and the time I get to spend with them. The cost, the crowds, the Disboards are all part of my planning and my excitement. I have to say I am disappointed by the people who are getting mad at people for venting out frustrations. It is like being near people on the Magic Express complaining about the cost of a soda at the park. It is Disney people. Get over it or don't go. I don't let it ruin my vacation though...

In my house there is what we spend day-to-day and what we spend at Disney. A pop at home is $1.25 at Disney is $4.00. It is what it is...

We don't make a ton of money so it is a big deal for us to be able to continue to do Disney annually. We make it work. If we can't, we won't. That will be that. We will be sad, but I won't be throwing daggers at Disney.

Exactly, I feel like memories are priceless. I make it work because it is what we want. If the cost ever becomes something I'm not willing to pay I won't go.

I also want to say something that may make a few people mad. I think this thread was started by the OP to vent his frustration that he can no longer stay on site at WDW. However like so many of these threads he is not allowed to do that. When you vent your frustration about something on here you are told you are doing it wrong. I sometimes get very discouraged by the defensiveness people have over their opinions. People seem to think their opinions are fact. They also seem to think that because something works for them it should always work for someone else. This is a big one for me. Many people criticized the OP for not using discounts to afford WDW. I have learned a lot on this board about different discounts available to make WDW more affordable. I haven't gotten a discount but I know I have no guarantee when I want to go or where I want to stay will offer a discount. I have posted previously in this thread about that so I won't rehash it here. I am the type of person that doesn't want to jump through hoops or settle for something I don't want for the sake of a discount. If I can't afford to go to WDW at rack rate I don't go. However, when I say getting a discount isn't as easy as people make it seem to be I get told it is easy(and therefore I am wrong).

I equate it to grocery shopping and using coupons. Some people are willing to take the time and effort to use a lot of coupons to save money and some are not. I am in the second category. I don't think the person clipping coupons and buying items because they are on sale is wrong I just think they are different than me. To me that is not worth my time and effort. I buy what I want to eat.

So I wish people could respect each others opinions and just say it is OK to agree to disagree because we all do things differently. Just because this board is full of people who love Disney so much they can't imagine anything negative about it doesn't mean someone venting their issues is wrong. It also doesn't mean they shouldn't go to Disney. Most people complain about their jobs, children, spouses etc. but that doesn't mean they want to get rid of them.

In the real world Disney is expensive and many people never get to go so we should all feel lucky that we can afford to do this while we can. JMHO.
