Not sure what the word is on the street about this movie, but I saw it last night with my 2 sons. I grew up listening to Queen, but I was born in 1968, so I was too young to remember their up and coming years. I remember Freddie Mercury's death and the impact it had. I did not know much about the band, their relationship, or even how they came to be.
So with that said, I loved the movie. I had no idea that Freddie was Indian. That struck me for some reason. The fact that he changed his name, not just for a stage name, but legally changed it was interesting. The music....OH THE MUSIC!!! They need to release a sing along version. 1/2 the theater was singing along to all the songs, it was great!
All in all, the movie makes me want to do more research on the band, and their relationships, etc. Very interesting movie.
One thing that stood out to me, is another thing I was not aware of. I know it was the 70's/80's and back then, you just didn't come out and say you were gay, but when Freddie came out, I just assumed he had known he was gay his whole life. The fact that he met a woman he found attractive, had a sexual relationship with her, asked her to marry him when he was in his mid-20's floored me. The movie indicates that he didn't realize he was attracted to men until he started traveling with the band.
Good movie.
