Trends that you hope will go away soon

How else are restaurants going to justify $20 for one meal? Sure they could give me a to-go box. But most of the time, I’m not interested in reheating half-eaten leftovers. :worried:

I'm usually fine with leftovers, if I'm going straight home, but it's a waste if we're having lunch or dinner on the way to anywhere else.

I'd definitely like to see smaller portions - and prices to go with them! (People who want more could always order two helpings.)

The I'm going to make this with even hotter peppers craze. Look. I don't need a pepper where the chef has to wear heavy gloves and goggles and change them every 5 minutes because the pepper burns through them ok? We don't need a hotter one. So just stop. Enough is enough.

IPA. Oh yes let's take the worst aspect of beer (bitterness) and see how bad bad can get.
Lol I love spicy peppers, and hoppy IPA’s!

Stuff stuck to the outside of glasses.

I have a theory that these milkshakes are so expensive because the kitchen staff simply throws away the entire glass once the customer is finished, rather than going through the hassle of scraping off all that crap and trying to wash the glass.

I agree about the ridiculous portions. I rarely, rarely ever order an entree, it's so much food, or it becomes 2 or 3 meals and by that point you're sick of eating it.

Instagram food is my annoyance. And generally people talking about making chili, or whatever, on social media. I just don't care what other people are having for dinner usually.
I want to know where you all eat. We used to take half a meal for for lunch the next day, now the portions at most restaurants are much much smaller, about right sized to be honest. And like I said, they have also downsized the plates so it looks like more food. I always wonder how much they really save on smaller portions. Is it really enough to justify the cost of hundreds of new smaller plates?

$20? When you order the steak and the place is using USDA prime beef or if you go to a seafood restaurant where everything is fresh no way they can charge $20 and make any money. Plus when you are paying all of the staff $15-$20 per hour costs add up.

entirely college prep high school curriculums.

i attended high school with many students who had no intention nor desire to attend college-students who had genuine interests and talents in trades and careers that would in no way, shape or form benefit from a college degree. both of my now adult children (graduated within the last 5 years from high school) had similar peers. there were as well students who were (for lack of better terminology) 'academically unsuited' to pursue college. with both categories they stayed the course and completed high school doing the standard high school curriculum and opting not to take a.p. or college prep classes.

this is no longer an option at the high schools in my area-all curriculums for graduation are identical to the college application requirements for HIGHLY COMPETITIVE institutions. multiple years of higher level math, foreign languages and sciences, little to no opportunities for arts and industrial electives (unless they are 'highly desirable' by colleges on an application).

i am watching...............i anticipate that high school graduation rates will decline vs. college enrollments increasing.

YES! So much this right here. From discussions I have had with school administrators, they are not on board with this trend either. That stuff comes down directly from the district and they just have to implement it. My son goes to a new HS with almost all core classes being either CP or Honors/AP. There seems to be no place for "average" or trade focused students to go. It's gonna be a huge problem in a few years.

Gauges. I generally love piercings and tattoos but these squick me out.

Luluroe/Pure Romance/Doterra and anything else people think their FB friends would be "really interested" in buying.

Keto. God, followers of that diet are worse than even the most crusading of vegans!

Deliberate offensiveness disguised as "telling it how it is" or "not being PC". Racism and sexism and poor taste aren't a virtue; stop pretending they are.

And as someone else upthread said, high school graduation requirements designed to check the boxes on a Harvard admissions checklist. There's nothing wrong with stopping short of calculus, or with wanting to focus on the arts, or with pursing a skilled trade. I don't know who decided that the bar for graduation should be set at able to apply to highly selective colleges, but it isn't doing just-average students or those who learn best in ways that aren't suited to the classroom any favors.

Filters for photos. I'm talking about the puppy ears, dog tongue, etc stuff..IDK what it's technically called. All I know is it's cute every now and then but when I hardly ever get to see your actual face on FB because all your photos you put up is just filled with those filters it's just too much.

No. I’m talking when you’re charged $20 for spaghetti and meatballs with a side salad and piece of garlic bread. This is from a local restaurant. But chain restaurants are pretty close to $20 a meal. Chicken Cesar salad should be at most $8. I’ve seen it up to $15 at places.

We go to a mix of chain and local restaurants of all types of foods. Our local Mexican restaurant is the only place that I can finish my meal. Everywhere else I usually have 1/2 or more left. DH is a big eater and never finished his meal either. We also tend to get ginormous plates that really make no sense. We went to Denny's recently and I ordered a veggie burger with a side of hash browns. The burger came out on a 10" plate. The hash browns came out on a separate 10" plate, completely heaping. That tends to be the norm at places we go.

This is interesting to me. I graduated 11 yrs ago in PA and my high school had loads of alternate tech options, but really lacked in college-prep curriculum. There were half-day programs for auto shop, culinary, cosmetology, and a few others. We were so lacking in core classes that I ran out of the more advanced academic classes in 10th grade and had to petition to be allowed to take college courses at the community college my junior year, then spent my senior year full time in college. I wonder what the curriculum is like there now.

There definitely needs to be a balance in offering college-prep classes for those who choose to pursue it as well as other options for trades/ non-college-boumd students.

I don’t like it when people use the word “lush” to describe something pleasant/ desirable (i.e. “breakfast was lush”). Lush is a word I’d use to describe a tropical rainforest, not a nice breakfast buffet/ restaurant/ hotel.

I also hate when people misuse apostrophes. I find it so frustrating. Like - it’s DVDs, NOT DVD’s. It’s 1960s, NOT 1960’s.

Me too! And a centuries-old beer style is not a "trend" that will go away.

American style IPA in no way resembles the centuries old beer style. Most of them are completely unbalanced, taste like someone gave sasquatch a hop enema, and poured the discharge into the glass. And virtually nobody drank it in the states until it became trendy. So yes, it is a "trend" and though it might not go away, it sure needs to.
